Saving Private Ryan - movie DVD cover picture

This is life at its worst. This is what I want to miss more then anything. This is what makes people afraid to sign up for the Selected Service. This is WAR. Spielberg does a great job setting everything up and Tom Hanks was AMAZING in his part, as were all the other actors. This was one amazing movie, and it really shows you what war does to people. It kills you...if not on the outside, it will on the inside. WAR IS HORRIBLE.

The Avengers '64, Set 1 - movie DVD cover picture

Having been a great fan of the Peel/King Avengers, I approached the Gale Avengers with some trepedation. This was badly misplaced. While the technical quality of the transfer to this DVD (including the annoying fly....) is not as high (in part because this does not appear to have been filmed, but rather some earlier, less accurate process), the content is superb.
Two of the episodes ran up with the very best televsion (not just Avengers) I have ever seen. Small Wonders, which also includes a not-so-small performance by Lois Maxwell (Moneypenny), is an absolute delight with clever plot twists and superb writing. It also plays upon certain "fears" of the period about secret societies. It is followed by "The Wringer" which could have come straight out of the pen of Le Carre. It reveals the underside of Steed's mysterious agency, and makes clear that these Avengers are playing for keeps.
Are these worth buying? Even with the fly, in a heartbeat. (and if they fix the fly, I will be the first in line to buy another copy...)

The Firm - Body Sculpting System 2 - Complete Aerobics & Weight Training - movie DVD cover picture
Emily was great!

Emily Welsh is a new FIRM instructor, but she was great! She made this complete workout fun. It's got weight training, cardio, and lots of the time they use the new Sculpting Stick to add variety.
Start out by warming up with Fanny Lifter, then launch into weight work that alernates upper and lower body exercises, a technique called PHA (peripheral heart action) training that burns more calories by forcing the heart to pump between distant muscle groups. Cardio intervals are interspersed throughout, everthing from kickboxing to step aerobics. End with four limb with the "twigs" (the ends of the sculpting stick) and then hit the floor for upper body work and an abdominal section that will change your mind about ab work! The stretch is long, relaxing, and complete- a great finish! This workout is about an hour long.

The NYC premier

I had the rare privilage of being at the premier of the dvd at loews theater in NYC last night and the footage was beyond words. Being to young to have seen the band perform together, (i saw Plant open for the who this summer at Madison Square Garden though)this footage is the closest thing i have to knowing the brilliance that is Led Zeppelin. To make things even better, the band held a VIP party after the screening to sign autographs( I got Plant and Jonesy, Page came and went to fast) and greet old friends and industry people. I can now say I talked and took pictures with living legends. All in all the band was brilliant then and they are still larger than life now. The DVD is a must have whether you saw them perform back in the day of have never seen them perform but wish you could have. I hope the rumors are true and they decide to tour within the next few years.

Funny as hell

"Best in Show" was a big disappointment. I was expecting a funny dog show movie, but got a corny, stereotyped movie that stressed sex humor over substance. Where are the good old movies that relied on subtlety and good acting? I think the movie had a lot of potential but missed its mark.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - movie DVD cover picture
This is nothing to fart in your general direction about!

Wow this must be the funniest movie ever! Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a story of a quest yes a quest I say to find the grail with many many adventures along the way. The knights of the round table are sent by god to find this holy grail. They face the black knights, the knights who say NEE, rude frenchmen, Bill, an evil bunny, a monster, police, an old man, girls of peril, the three headed knight, townspeople, harsh weather conditions, a girl I mean man in need of help, wedding guests. The Monty Python team is back to its old tricks for some great acting in a movie that will be talked about for years to come. This is a must buy for anyone who has a DVD player.

Made me a Miyazaki fan

This was the second movie I have seen that was directed by Hayo Miyazaki. The first was The Castle of Cagliostro (considered by many, including me, to be one of the greatest adventure movies of all time). This movie was easily on the same level of The Castle of Cagliostro. Miyazaki manages to develop realistic characters that refuse to be classified as either good or bad, like so many other Disney films.

That being said I find it hard to believe that Miyazaki intended for this to be a children's movie. It does incorporate the some of typical Disney children's themes into it but much of the movie I think would be too "scary" for children. For instance, the desperately lonely character No-Face seems compassionate at first but then proceeds to eat several people. No-Face later realizes that Chihiro only wanted to be his friend and joins her in her journey. Even Haku, the only person that wanted to help Chihiro in the spirit world, is revealed as a thief that was only using Yubaba to gain power. The images themselves are what nightmares are made of. One scene in particular after they bathe the "stink spirit" I found particularly creepy. In the scene a floating skull appears in the air and says "well done."

This is a must see for any fan of anime.

Hot Things 2

I just want to say this movie rocks! Its my new favourite movie! I love it!There are so many twists and turns, you have to wait till the end to find out. Not many movies keep you guessing as Wild Things 2. It definatly surpasses the first one. Too bad it didnt make it to theatres-it would have been hot!Everything about it is intriging. The stars, location, plot and outcome. And yeah, the 3some seen was hot!I soo recommend this movie. I love it!
