WE LOVED IT. GREAT FOR COLIC BABIES TOO!

My daughter has suffered from colic for months. My friend recommended this video as her daughter's favorite so I thought I'd give it a try. My baby has colic and screams for hours at a time! Not any more, when I put Baby Prodigy on, she stops! I can't believe it. This video has gotten my husband and I through many hard days and nights. Her eyes open wide and for 30 minutes she is focused on the video! I'm anxiously awaiting the new Baby Preschool Video!!!! She also loves your musical pacifier CD it really CALMS her down!

off the hook

The Shaolin Temple was the first Chinese martial arts film to use real gongfu practitioners as actors (Bruce Lee's films are exempt because he did not use Chinese gongfu in his films; his style, which died with him, was primarily western martial arts with Asian kicking). These actors were the best martial artists in China. The film was funded by Japanese investors and took about two years to film due to the injuries the cast received doing their own stunts (the contact was real). According to the credits, Pan Qingfu choreographed the film. This is not so. All the actors choreographed their own parts. It is also not true that Jet Li was the reigning Chinese National Versatile Champion at the time this film was made (although he did hold the title for five years). That honor goes to Hu Jianqiang, who played the leader of the young monks. He is one of the few masters of both Northern and Southern styles, and Jet Li's friend and senior. This film is leaps and bounds above the earlier Hong Kong films.

Powell And Pressburger's Greatest Film

Directors Powelland Pressburger collaborated in a number of films but The Red Shoes tops them all. This 1948 TechniColor movie has become a classic and lovers of the ballet fondly look to this film for inspiration. Stars ballerina turned actress Moira Shearer as Victoria Page the tragic heroine who wears the fatal shoes, Antal Walbrook as the demanding and imperious manager/impresario Boris Lentmontov. The film is drawn from the Hans Christian Anderson tale, in which a young girl is given red shoes by a shop keep only to dance herself to death. The film never even borders on magic realism nor is over the top but maintains a subtle psychological drama that turns grotesque into a climatic and grim finale.
Moira Shearer's performance is Oscar worthy. Vicky Page learns from Lentmontov all the right stuff to be a dedicated dance artist. But the ballet is second in her heart when she falls in love with a young composer/conductor. Distracted by love, Lentmontov worries that he has lost his greatest star. The crisis is even greater because apparently, cold though he is, Lentmontov falls for Vicky himself. Anton Walbrook delivers a great performance as Lentmontov. He would later take on the role of King Ludwig of Bavaria in the French Max Ophuls film "Lola Montes". There is an extended ballet sequence, the original ballet "The Red Shoes" which makes use of magic animation and colorful backdrops. This film is genius and art. A great film to be shown in ballet history class or dance classes. This is also a caution film. Perhaps it's unwise to seek artistic perfection. It's ultimately Victoria Page's own fault for her tragedy. The Red Shoes is a metaphor. She became a slave to her art and it destroyed her. Her indecision cost her greatly. Which is greater ? Perfection in her ballet career or true love ? Torn by her love of ballet and her love for Julian, she meets a dire fate. This movie is incredible. All the scenes, dialogue are artistic composition. The film was shot in European locations, including London and Paris.

Well Executed

My seven year old daughter has watched this DVD about twenty five times, so the performance is etched in my brain.
It consists of fine, athletic acting and good singing, with fairly minimal sets. The orchestration has been tarted up, as some have noted, but it's not too bad. Richard MacMillan's entertaining Pooh-Bah sticks in the mind particularly, as does Gidon Saks' maniacal Mikado.
There are a few Canadian references which are fast becoming too topical even for natives of the North: wage and price controls ("six and five"), former Prime Minister Mulroney's pretty wife Mila (left off the little list), and even a brief digital salute to Pierre Trudeau from the irrepressible Pooh-Bah.
The CBC's production values are less than stunning. You get mediocre sound, no libretto, and the same tourist promotion video that is seen on other DVD's in the Stratford set. However, the wit and polish of the performance make up for any deficiencies.
Overall, a very worthwhile buy for anyone except a real sourpuss, and enjoyable even after the twenty fifth viewing.

SUPERB, UTTERLY LITERATE SPECTACLE...........

WELL, MOST OF MY FRIENDS HERE AS WELL AS 90 % OF THE SO CALLED CRITICS TORE THIS FILM SO TO SHREDS, THERE WAS NO WAY TO EVER STITCH IT BACK TOGETHER! WELL, AS A CURIOUSITY PURCHASE, TO SEE JUST HOW AWFUL THIS FILM WAS, I JUST WATCHED THE NEW DIRECTOR'S CUT-I WAS DUMBFOUNDED! THE ACTING, THE LITERACY OF THE SCREENPLAY, THE ACTING, THE TONED DOWN HOMOPHOBIA, ETC. ALL ADDED UP TO ALMOST 3 HOURS OF NEAR BRILLIANCE AND MAGNIFICENCE! I DID NOT REALLY THINK OLIVER STONE COULD EVER MAKE SUCH A POOR FILM AS CLAIMED BY SO MANY OF YOU HERE! WATCH IT AGAIN- IT IS HISTORICAL TO A POINT, AND REALLY BREATHTAKING TO WATCH! EVEN THE SCORE, BY VANGELIS, IS AWESOME. IN SHORT, WHAT I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LAUGH AT, MADE ME LAUGH AT ME INSTEAD. IT COULD BECOME A SCREEN CLASSIC AS THE NEXT FEW YEARS PASS BY-YOU WANT STUPID, DULL, BORING, LOUSY ACTING? TRY DUKES OF HAZARD. ALEXANDER, THE DIRECTOR'S CUT, IS A MARVEL TO BEHOLD, AND WETHER OR NOT I STAND ALONE HERE, THAT'S HOW I FEEL-I LOVED IT.

Fine

This film isn't the best in acting but when the characters are scared then they play those scenes pretty well but other times are not the best.If these events are a hoax then why would the family leave their home and never reclaim their stuff? The film was a hit in the time of its release it made more money than Alien did since they came out about the same time Amityville grossed in at about 86 million dollars domestic now that tells you that the people liked it pretty much and the film even earned an Academy Award nomination for best original score by Lalo Schifrin. This is the kind of film to watch on a rainy night.

The Start of Michael's Never Ending Reign

This was probaly the best of the Halloweens and I thoguht it stunk the first time around. Then the second time I started to appreciate Michael in a different way. I thought of him as a good guy not a bad brutal serial killer. I've seen all of them except 3,4 and ressurection but people say 3 and ressurection don't count anyway. Dr. Loomis doesn't have such a big role in this one but he sure does in the next few one's. Out of the 3 huge killers Michael's my second fave next to Freddy but Halloween's plot is so rich I could watch them all day. Jamie was good in this and she was good in 2 and H20 but this series really belongs to Donald Plesence.

Better Than T2

So here we are- T3. And boy does it have a lot to live up to after the flawless T2. But hey- here we go!

Set early on in the 21st century, today, John Connor (Nick Stahl) is in hiding. His mother Sarah Connor who died of Leukemia a couple of years ago, lived long enough to make sure that their actions in T2 had been successful. Still, John Connor had never trusted that it was truly over. We will later discover that neither did Sarah Connor. Now hiding so that the machines could never ever find him, John Connor encounters Kate Brewster (Claire Danes). So does the Terminatrix, a future cyborg with a hardened endoskeleton, liquid metal covering and on board weapons- her mission is to terminate all of John Connor's lieutenants from the future war with the machines. Should the Terminatrix happen to find John Connor, she is to terminate him too along with Kate Brewster (his future....). To complicate matters, a T-101 Terminator (Arnie) has also arrived but is he here to kill John Connor or protect him? An answer we will soon discover, along with the realization that today is in fact Judgment Day (it had only been delayed by the events of T2), and not only do John Connor and Kate Brewster have to save themselves, they have to save all of humanity, or do they? Was humanity meant to be saved? Was Judgment Day meant to be stopped?

T3 is simply amazing. I actually prefer it to T2. It has action, excitement, revelations and a heart felt ending. The acting is great, particularly from Nick Stahl and Claire Danes, and even Arnie who gives his best portrayal of the Terminator to date. The ending has set things up for Terminators 4 & 5 if they get made, but even if they don't, T3's conclusion is quit possibly the most appropriate conlusion to the Terminator series there could have been.

The movie on DVD is accompanied by Dolby Digital 5.1 sound which does a very good job- no need for dts here. The extras are a bit bare, but still above average.

One of the best movies you'll see. Enjoy!
