Visually splendid

I bought this DVD after renting it from Net-Flix because I had to own it. Not only is it a wonderful companion to the book of the same title, the addition of OVER IRELAND makes this DVD a must have for anyone who is even remotely interested in Ireland.

Good Movie

I liked this movie, and also the girls in this were quite, cute. Piper Perabo was in "Rocky & Bullwinkle" she did a good job in both movies. The DVD is good, the Deleted Sences were good worth watching.

Perhaps the greatest DVD ever!

Well, I had to admit that I didn't exactly know what to expect from "Heavy, Left-Handed and Candid" when I bought it. I had seen "PanDaemonAeon," but that was just a short sampling compared to this DVD. I have to admit that I was definitely a bit suprised for Cradle of Filth to come out with such a great DVD (considering they're still a mostly-underground group). Here's a look at each of the features:
"Eleven Burial Masses": Definitely the best part of the DVD! The concert footage, combined with the insane images COF mixes into it, alone makes "Heavy, Left-Handed and Candid" well worth the price of admission. I'll just say that I've only seen one concert as good as this, and that's Rammstein's "Live aus Berlin"(which you should definitely get if you don't have it).
"Sifting Through Filth": OK, so this is just filler, but it's pretty good as far as backstage footage goes, though. Lots of mooning and other illegal activities.
"Scorched Earth Erotica": Good video, but relies a bit too much on "Cradle of Fear." The "Very Nasty" version is definitely the best of the two versions.
"Born in a Burial Gown": Another good, if confusing, video. Certainly a video to watch.
"The Blair Twit Project": OK, a lot more filler here. Basically just COF walking through the forest and stealing a sign. Good for laughs, though.
"Cradle of Fear" movie trailer: Pretty cool, I guess. I think it would be better to watch the actual "Cradle of Fear"(which is pretty hard to find in America).
"Circus of Horrors": There's some freaky stuff here! Not for the squeamish!
"Gallery of the Grotesque": Has some extra pictures and a hidden link. This is a little something extra for hardcore fans.
Overall: Anybody who likes COF or wants to see something different should buy this DVD. It's quite possibly the best music DVD out on the market, and also quite possiblly the greatest DVD ever made!!!

This movie was great! It was also sad.

This movie was one of the best movies I saw all year. It was so cool. Gia's life made a really good movie. The best part in the movie is when she makes the cover of VOUGE. This movie really focuses on her bisexuality and her life on heroine. I give it 4 stars on a scale from 1-4.

The way our world should be

The tenets of 50s American sitcom mores, values, dress codes and the one-dimensional characters which symbolise and exemplify the socio/economic/political superstructure of 50's America with all their staid, repressed and reserved traits, are thoughtfully meditated on in this film, and contrasted with the tenets of more contemporary sitcoms. The film could be accused of obvious, linear plotting, leading to a woefully sacharine and 'manufactured' resolution, the characters ending up as nothing but vacuously machinated symbolic entities being conrolled by an aloof director. I beg to differ, however. Witherspoon and Maguire's characters represent the fresher faces of t.v. shows, like Beverly Hills 90210, etc etc. They, as with their sepia toned counterparts, are not meant to represent 'real' people 'sucked' through a television tube, but charcaters designed and conceptualised as they would be for a modern prime-time television show. This is the film's genius; as we all know, one of the tenets of any easily digestable sitcom, modern or archaic, is the proverbial happy ending. The Resoultion MUST bring the narrative and individual character arcs to their conclusion. If the ending to 'PLeasantiville' seems a little tough to take, it should be useful to remember hat the pandora's shmorgasboard (mixing metaphors, sorry) opened up must be neatly finished off within the context of the framing narrative and the core narrative. If one observes carefully, the ending is actually surprisingly ambiguous, and fulfills the ends required for it's status as a feature film as opposed to a television series. The FILM, as a function of its very nature, contains a wonderfully postmodern twist (the film's 'text' referring back to the obvious as well as the oblique process' of another set of general texts i.e. t.v sitcom 'texts' of the 50's and late 90's) from the television's medium's older sibling, quite a 'check mate', by way of the (implied) writer/director, of course.

The Odyssey - movie DVD cover picture

The movie The Odyssey is based on the epic book The Odyssey that was written by Homer who was a blind author. This movie tells of a man named Odysseus (Armand Assante) who was married to Penelope (Greta Sacchi) who left to go fight in the Trojan War the day his son Telemachus (Alan Stenson) was born. After they defeated Troy in the war he told the gods that he defeated Troy without their help. This angered the god Poseidon and he put a spell on Odysseus that he will never return to Ithaca. When Odysseus and his men embarked on their voyage back home to Ithaca. The first place they stopped was the Cyclops' island to gather some food. They found the Cyclops' cave and ate his food. When the Cyclopes came back he asked them what they are doing in his cave. They gave him some wine as a gift. The Cyclops asked what Odysseus name was but Odysseus said that his name was nobody. When the Cyclops was asleep they made a sharp wooden stick and they poked the Cyclops in his eye. The Cyclops screamed to his brothers that ?nobody has stabbed me in my eye? so his brothers did not come and help him because they think he poked himself in his eye. Odysseus and his men escaped but some were not so fortunate to escape. Next they stopped at the island were the god of the wind was named Aeolus (Michael J. Pollard). Aeolus gave Odysseus a bag of wind and told him not to open it. When he was back on the ship his men were curious about what was in the bag. When he went to sleep they opened the bag and it blew the ship to Circe?s island. Circe turned Odysseus?s men into animals. Odysseus went to sleep with her so she can turn his men that were animals back into men. When they left her island they went to the blind prophet in the underworld and he told him the way home. They had to go through a cave to get back to Ithaca. Before they got to Ithaca they went into a whirlpool that killed everybody except Odysseus. Odysseus got back to Ithaca after he stayed at Calypso (Vanessa Williams) island for five years. The only people that recognized him was his son and a shepherd. Athena then turned Odysseus into a old man so no one knew who he was except his son. When he got to his castle they had a contest. Whoever strung Odysseus?s bow and made the arrow through twelve axes would marry Penelope. Odysseus did and killed everyone who invaded his palace. He joined Penelope and had a happy life.
The style of clothing they had in Ithaca was called a tunic. Only the wealthy people would have dyed tunics. The average person wore a white tunic. The main crop in Ithaca was olives which took a lot of olives to make a little bit of olive juice. Back then when someone goes to another person?s island they bring gifts. The people of Ithaca and other islands believed in gods. They gave sacrifices to the gods so they will help them in the future. Greece was a rugged land that was in Europe. The different types of occupations in Ithaca were herders who handled sheep, ship builders, and fishers. This was a very good movie and I hope you will enjoy it too.

If you haven't seen it, run, don't walk to see it!!

Judging by the latest box office showing, hardly anyone is watching this great horror film. I can't recommend it enough! It is a masterful retelling of the Dracula legend. My husband and I saw it twice and it scared me just as much the second time as the first. This movie is packed with great action sequences and genuine scares. It also has a few really good suprises in store for those who see it. Yes, I said suprises. As in something "New." I'm not going to spoil it for you, but I do highly recommend this film, it's Craven's best since the original "Nightmare" movie. It's way better than those "Scream" thrillers he did. So if you like a good solid scary movie, along with edge of your seat thrills and a dash of humor thrown in for good measure, see this movie, you won't be disappointed.

Two Guns and a White Suit

This is Woo's masterpiece! Thank God the corporate drones at fox decided to release this after Criterion lost the rights! Hands down, this is one of the most astounding action films ever, and one of my faves of all time. If there was ever a movie that defined the word kinetic, this is it. The shootouts are so stylized and frenetic, one must see it to believe it. Woo also uses religious iconography to underpin the the deeper subtext of the film. If you see one Woo film, this must be it!
Like it says on the box, "Outrageous, Supercharged, Go for Broke Cinema! "
