Visual Masterpiece

This proved, beyond a doubt, that Kubrick was one of the last great auteurs, the likes of which we will never see again. I agree with the previous comments that you will either love it or hate it, depending on if you understand it.
As for the full-screen format goes, few people know but Kubrick actually hated the idea of "widescreen" format, and pretty much demanded that none of his films be released widescreen. As much as I repect Kubrick as a filmmaker, let's all hope the studio overrides his wish and someday releases this in widescreen.
To the great perfectionist and masterful auteur: we will all miss your stunning eye and phenomenal grace -- the world has lost an artist.

A Godzilla movie that is simply awesome

I got the movie today(will not say from where because I got it early).I watched the movie right when I got home. It is my 3rd favorite millineum series movie behind G Against MechaGodzilla, and GMK. As far as people saying it is the best Special Effects G movie I dont know it seemed just as good as GxMG and GMK. The movie itsefl was awesome. The battle scenes where off the chain. The battle last about an hour. It's a 10/10 Godzilla movie and I definately recommend it if your a die hard G fan. And it could also be a great Christmas present for kids who like Dinosaurs.

Best series on TV

This series is absolutely amazing. Every episode gives us a little more insight to the amazingly deep characters involved. Every episode makes you want to see next week's, and now with a box set DVD collection you can easily enjoy the series one after another. Truly an amazing show, and if you missed any of the episodes on HBO, or even if you didn't, this box set is worth owning.

What more can I say?

You either love this film or you hate it. I write this review mostly to add five more stars to the ratings this film has recieved. There is not much more I can add to what the others have said. This film is a unique experience. By American standards, all the performances are grotesquely over-acted, but if this is pretentious, then I say bring on the pretense! Isabelle Adjani is wonderful to watch even in the calmer moments, and when she moves into High Historionics she is utterly unlike anything you have ever seen (and much more impressive than the monster). The film is not light entertainment, but deep catharsis, intended slap the viewer into satori, the Dionysian dream of an Apollonian chorus. Since viewing it, I have searched for anything by Zulawski I could get my hands on, and it has not been easy to find much. This is his only film in English, and much of his work has never even been released with English subtitles, much less in American formats. (Perhaps after the mutilation Possession recieved at the hands of Vestron, Zulawski did not want to release more of his films in the United States?)

Great show

I hadn't seen this show till this particular season. All I can say is wow. This is BY FAR the best show on TV. Of course I now own the 1st and 2nd seasons. I still think the best episode of 24 I have ever seen is from this season, the one where Chappelle's fate is determined. The tension in that episode is amazing, and just when you think the writers couldn't pull any more punches they find another way to fool you. Anyways, if you haven't checked this show out please do. It is better than most of the movies that are out these days.

Please buy this!!!!

Hellevator is honestly one of the best films I have ever seen. If you do buy it, don't get upset while you're watching it because it seems like such an indie film. That's what the director wanted. Just try to soak in the interesting scenery and twisted characters. Don't rationalize the film, enjoy it! This is the first time I figured out the ending half way through the movie and wasn't disappointed when it came to pass. You've got to see it!!!

Killer Smile

Talk about a dichotomy! You have the flamboyant scoundrel Burt Lancaster on one side and the stoic gentleman Gary Cooper on the other. They form a loose allegiance and friendship in French occupied Mexico. And that's the main focus of this film. This movie is just filled with so many cornball theatrics that you just can't help but fall in love with it. And there's a twist or a turn around every corner. That's what makes it so good. Director Robert Aldrich mixes lessons on etiquette with lessons on sharp shooting. Even Emperor Maximilian gets to show off his marksmanship prowess against Cooper and Lancaster in a very entertaining scene! There's enough action, witty dialogue and beautiful location photography (by Ernest Laszlo) to please most movie fans. The large cast includes Cesar Romero, Denise Darcel, George Macready, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson and Jack Elam. The film's greatest asset is Burt Lancaster's smile. I never knew he had so many teeth!

The Blair Witch Project - movie DVD cover picture
Completely Realistic! Scary To The Bone!

Perhaps "unsettling" is the best word to describe 1999's runaway hit, "The Blair Witch Project". As the film's characters travel deeper and deeper into the woods (and the unknown), this "unsettling" feeling persists, until we almost feel as if we [the movie-watcher] are taking part in the action on the screen.
I think "Blair Witch" puts its audience "into" this film better, perhaps, than any movie before or since. It's a "What would I do if I were him/her?" type of picture nearly all the way through. You can't help but put yourself into the shoes of the actors on the screen.
There are two scenes, in particular, of undeniable terror shown in this movie. Anyone having seen the film probably can figure out which two I feel are the most terror-filled. So much so, in this writer's view, they are unsettling enough to literally form chills upon one's spine. I cannot recall, offhand, any other movie that has inspired this reaction so intensely.
The fact that we MAY or may NOT encounter some supernatural phenomenon as the days drag on during the course of the movie makes our journey into the unknown seem, at times, almost unbearable and intensely foreboding. Had we actually visualized (in either human or monster-like form) the terror which stalks these frightened characters, then the film would not have been nearly as effective as it turned out being. The "we won't show it" policy utilized by the Blair Witch filmmakers was a very wise decision, in my opinion.
The handheld camcorder images we see throughout the movie lend even more of a realistic quality to what we are witnessing.
Many people find this film laughable; or just plain "not scary". I'm not in that group by a longshot. Just the opposite. This film is a gem among horror motion pictures.
