Very, very funny

I love this movie. I am a huge fan of MST3K, and this movie is just like another episode except there is a bigger set and more expensive props. The film that Mike, Crow, and Tom watch is called "This Island Earth" which was made by the same company that produced this movie, Universal. It is a comically bad sci-fi flick that the boys enjoy tearing apart. I watched this movie over and over again and never stopped laughing. Enjoy!

One of the great Christmas films

I'm not really sure what these other people (who say the music is no good in this movie) are hearing. The songs and music in Scrooge are hauntingly beautiful, catchy, and a perfect fit for the bittersweet message Scrooge projects. Scrooge is such a big part of my family's Christmas every year, and it's one of my favorite movies ever. Albert Finney is nothing short of miraculous as Ebenezer Scrooge. This movie also combines elements of joy, humor and horror to create a wonderful musical that makes me appreciate the true meaning of Christmas. I can't imagine why anyone would dislike the songs in Scrooge. It only makes me feel sorry for the critics who aren't deeply moved and affected by this amazing movie.

Non stop laughs

This movie is a modern twist on the classic "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." It's great to see a movie that is funny without using gratuitous obscenities or needless sex jokes. There really is something here for everyone...or at least for everyone who likes to laugh so hard they can barely breathe. If you enjoy silly, physical comedy, these folks are the ones to see. It's wonderful, light-hearted summer fun.

By your command...

Repackaged to take advantage of the Sci-Fi Channel's remake/mini-series. This is a decent beginning to one of TV's all time greats.
The last Battlestar, Galactica, leads a ragtag fugitive fleet away from the tyranny of the robotic Cylons in search of a lost tribe that has settled on a mythical planet known as Earth. While it was labeled as a rip-off, the fact is it was an excellent series that is only now getting the respect it deserves.
The widescreen treatment is courtesy of the fact that Universal marketed a different edit in theaters overseas. All in all, a great disc for the science fiction fan in your house.

You Can Count On Me - movie DVD cover picture
Silly title for a great little film

"You Can Count on Me" is badly served by its title, which makes it sound like something cobbled together to sell a pop song, on the order of "You Light Up My Life" or "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." In fact this is a charming and insightful film about small-town life and relationships, centering around a brother and sister who, orphaned when small children (the subject of the film's brief prologue), find themselves two adults with drastically different outlooks on life. How they clash, make up and learn from one another when the brother returns to their hometown after a long absence makes for one funny and/or moving scene after another. Laura Linney didn't have a chance of winning the Oscar against Julia Roberts' Erin Brockovich, but her luminous performance is certainly of that caliber, while Michael Ruffalo projects belligerence, vulnerability and tenderness with effortless mastery. Matthew Broderick and Kenneth Lonergan himself provide sharp, amusing portraits of Linney's annoying boss and broad-minded pastor, respectively. For film buffs who still believe that intelligent dialogue and emotional truth are essential parts of the film experience this is one not to be missed.

Vampyr - movie DVD cover picture
A video to study.

Directed in France by the legendary Danish director Carl Dreyer,Vampyr is not only one of the best horror films but also probably one of the greatest films ever made. Unlike the American horror pictures like Frankenstein that were being made at the same time, Vampyr has relatively little action but a sustained atmosphere of strangeness like that of few other movies. The action takes place during one night and the entire film has a slow, trance-like quality. The picture quality of the DVD is vastly superior to that of the older videotapes--the film was photographed by the great Rudolph Mate--but the sound recording is shaky at the best, and the dialogue is hard to follow even for someone who understands German. The music comes across more effectively but is boomy in some passages--it's a good idea to reduce the bass before viewing. The DVD like an earlier video has quite large subtitles in Gothic type--designed I think to eliminate Danish subtitles--which unfortunately mask a third or so of the picture in some shots.

Best Animated Series.

How else to start a best animated series than with the complete first season on DVD. This DVD is wonderful with extras and the show just in its early development stages does keep you laughing. The show which debuted December 17th 1989 has stayed on 13 years and has showed that it has staying power. Hopefully this show will stay on 13 more years for many people to enjoy. This is a good DVD set and I recommend the next two DVD set the Second and Third seasons.

Excellent movie

Where to begin... It's difficult to put into words the disappointment I felt after watching the first few minutes of this US release of Drunken Master 2 (The Legend of Drunken Master).
Having seen the original movie on the big screen (and also being the proud owner of a VHS copy), I was looking forward to this release on DVD. Unfortunately, I feel this US release destroys what must be one of Jackie Chan's top 5 movies.
The translated dialogue is terrible. Not just the translations, but the voice actors they recruited sound like Chinese actors speaking bad English. If this was a real US release of the movie for US consumption, why not make the dialogue intelligible? As someone who speaks both Cantonese and English, I found the dialogue difficult to follow and just blatantly wrong. They rob the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) comedy which runs through the entire movie. If they couldn't get good script writers to translate it properly, at least they could have used people who spoke with an American accent. I would almost go as far to be insulted by the chop-soky English used in this release.
The soundtrack is also noticably absent. By robbing the fight scenes of their original score, they remove the excitement and drama from the entire movie. You may not always appreciate how much a soundtrack does for a movie, but this US release truly underscores this point.
Believe me, I wanted to like this movie. I was just so disappointed with what they had done to this movie.
I hope you do not buy this DVD. You should look for either the Hong Kong release of the VHS, Laserdisc, or DVD.

FABULOUS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I HAVE EVER SEEN

JAMES CAMERON NOT ONLY HAD THE TITANIC, BUT HE CREATED THIS LITTLE BEAUTY. BY FAR THE BEST IN SPECIAL EFFECTS ENTERTAINMENT. LINDA HAMILTON DESERVED AN OSCAR FOR HER PERFORMANCE AS SARA CONNER, BUT UNFORTUNATELY SHE WAS SNUBBED. A MUST SEE FOR SCHWARTZENEGGER FANS.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Fifth Season

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 5 is an epic year. The season arc is fairly weak but has individual great episodes. The episodes grow deeper and more mature as do the characters. The cast is still fun to watch and likeable in every aspect. This is definetly a strong season actually one of my favorites. This is one of those shows you can't go wrong with. The acting and dialogue are still fresh and the one- liners don't get old. This season as a whole is a very deep season about finding your true meaning in life.I can't come to give it a perfect rating though.Without a doubt, make sure to check this season out. After an unsettling encounter with Dracula, Buffy asks Giles to once again be her Watcher.Luckily he agrees, for Buffy is about to face problems far more threatning than the undead: the sudden arrival of a sister named Dawn, her mother's mysterious illness and Spike's undying devotion. Then an undefeatable demon appears, forcing Buffy to turn to an ancient Spirit Guide who tells her that love is her greatest gift - and power. This six disc box set has season five overview, selected episode commentary, seven featurettes, outtakes, selected episode scripts, DVD-ROM content- Buffy Demon Guide, still gallery, and more!(10/10)

A troll named Olaf manifests itself during a domestic squabble between Willow and Anya. The Watchers Council returns to inform the gang about Glory's true purpose and the importance of The Key. We learn of another crew of nasties called the Knights of Byzantium, who want to destroy The Key. Buffy's mysterious sister Dawn learns that she is The Key and runs away from home. Dawn tells Buffy that Spike has feelings for the Slayer. Drusilla returns for Spike. Buffy accepts a date with Ben, who turns out to be Glory's alter ego. Joyce dies of a brain tumor. While Dawn decides that she is going to resurrect her mother, Ben tells Glory that Dawn is The Key. Spike confuses the Slayerettes by carrying on with the Buffbot. Meanwhile, Glory believes that Tara is The Key. Tara and Willow get into a fight that leaves Tara's defenses down when attacked by Glory and her minions. Tara is left brain-dead after her confrontation with Glory. Glory and Ben get their hands on Dawn. The Scoobies come together for an all out battle against Glory and her followers at a sacrificial tower. R.I.P. Buffy Anne Summers. In a truly epic year, Buffy's mother Joyce passes away. Riley leaves town because he is upset that Buffy won't return his love. We begin see kinder, gentler Spike around town. As a matter of fact, Buffy learns that Spike has a crush on her when he dumps Harmony. After what anyone would consider a horrible year in Buffy's life, things come to fruition when Glory kidnaps Dawn to use her power to open up an evil dimension. This of course leads to the martyr death of Buffy as she jumps from Glory's ritual structure and closes that dimensional portal opened by Dawn's blood.
"A weak season story arc but good individual episodes and strong character development."-- (...)
