Glen or Glenda? - movie DVD cover picture
these videos were pure fun

im a huge fan of ed wood and cult films,so you could imagine my delight at this boxed set. 'GLEN OR GLENDA" is a testament to noble failure or maybe just angora sweaters. "BRIDE OF THE MONSTER" is an utterly hilarious tribute to classic universal horror movies, but is an unintentionally zany comedy. And finally theres "PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE" this movie is to cult films what "CASABLANCA" is to mainstream movies,it is the timeless epic of grade z movie making. In the end these videos provide hours of ultimate guilty pleasures. As grade z movies i grade them "a".

Amazing mini-series

At the time of this writing (7/4/03), it has been announced that Universal home entertainment will finally start playing ball when it comes to releasing DVDs of television shows. Yes, I realize this won't be their first foray into television on DVD (see Law & Order season 1), but it is a big step for a company that has been content with releasing worthless "Best of" compilations and single-disc pilot episodes.
What big step are they taking, you ask? They're releasing the complete epic series of Battlestar Galactica, tentatively slated for an October 21st, 2003 release. The 6-disc collection will contain all 24 episodes of the one-season wonder inspired by the success of "Star Wars" and that treated us to guest appearances that included Ed Begley Jr., James Whitmore, Jane Seymour, Fred Astaire, Rick Springfield, Britt Ekland and Lloyd Bridges.
Special features will include: Insight into the "Making of" Battlestar Galactica; Creation of Battlestar Galactica: an Interview with creator Glen A. Larson; Deleted Scenes; Commentary for selected episodes by Cast/Crew; Visual Effects with John Dykstra; Sci-Fi Special: Making of the Show; Composing the Music: Stu Phillips and Glen A. Larson; Production Notes; Sneak preview for the upcoming Sci-Fi Channel Battlestar Galactica mini-series; Interactive Game Trailer
Universal lists the disc running times as follows:Disc 1: 3 hours, 58 minutesDisc 2: 3 hours, 15 minutesDisc 3: 3 hours, 14 minutesDisc 4: 3 hours, 16 minutesDisc 5: 3 hours, 16 minutesDisc 6: 2 hours, 27 minutes...

BEST OF BRUCE LI

Undoubtedly, Bruce Li is the best known Bruce Lee imitator. While the body of his work includes some stinkers, this film is a true classic. The film picks up right where Bruce Lee's original left off. Li plays Lee's brother who comes to avenge his death...and boy, does he kick some a##! Show stopping martial arts, and an ending that is much more satisfying than that of the original. The production values and acting are also way above typical bruce-ploitation fare. You must see this! Incredible!

Hannibal - movie DVD cover picture
Disturbing Film

I have seen a lot of horror film in my time, but I have never been repulsed the way I was during the final, infamous scene with Ray Liotta. Not for the faint of heart or those with weak stomachs. Incredible screenplay, though. Clarice is back, on the hunt for Hannibal Lecter, and he is on the loose in Florence, Italy. The interesting side-story involves a survivor of a Lecter attack, Gary Oldman in very disturbing make-up, that will make you want to turn away from the screen. But you cant. The way the plot twists and turns will drive you mad. Lecter is so over the top as a villain, it borders on self parody, but I'll say one thing. You want to be on the Doctor's good side. You never want to join him for dinner.

Philistines...

While I understand that there are many people in this world who are confused and often frightened by new things, I would suggest that we stop listening to these people as soon as possible, lest we be dragged in as well. The simple fact is that this is not an American movie, and I believe that American audiences, at least those not closely acquainted with Japanese culture and mythology, do not understand that there is a difference in the styles of storytelling native to each of our cultures. The standard American reaction (whether that of a "legitimate" critic or an average moviegoer) to the films of, say, Akira Kurosawa, is one of grudging acceptance, with the oft-used tagline: "but I didn't quite get the story." While there is certainly something to be said about increasing globalization and the melding of cultures, it remains a fact that a story written by a native Japanese writer may not necessarily affect a someone from Des Moines, Iowa, as it would one from Kyoto.I think the terse writeoff of the storyline by many critics is unfortunate, but in the end, will be to their detriment. After all, other groundbreaking movies have received similar treatment: Disney's "Fantasia" and Welles's "Othello" come to mind.In conclusion, there is no basis for the derogatory statements made about storytelling: while it is generally less comforting for a viewer to place the blame on himself for not being able to comprehend and apply the storyline to his mentality, it is often far more truthful.
