The Matrix - movie DVD cover picture
The Matrix is whatever you want it to be

The Matrix was hailed as the best action thriller of the year, and I have to say I have never seen fight scenes like them, the only film that comes anywhere close is the excellent Blade. A brilliant script, fantastic performances from the cast, and a good directing job have combined to make this film highly watchable to anybody. However the categorisation of sci-fi action thriller is often met with cries of 'Oh no I won't like that' or 'It's really not what I like to watch', but trust in me even if this is not the kind of film you would normally watch it is well worth a look in, and that much it certainly deserves. Keanu Reeves is on top form as Neo, the main character, expelling rumours of his sawdust like brain, wooden acting talent, and general stupidity. This is him at his best and he is as good as any big name I've seen recently. Laurence Fishburne plays the arcane and sinister Morpheus to a tee, his riddles will drive you insane after a while, but that is part of the film, and watching how the riddles solve themselves is highly enthralling. Carrie-Ann Moss is good in her supporting role as Trinity, but in my opinion it's Hugo Weaver as Smith, the patronising agent who steals the show, he is the character you love to hate, but you can't help but like his character, he's so devious. The Matrix is a brilliant film, it's plot however is highly complicated, and it helps to have someone to explain it to you, or at least watch it twice. You may be tempted to give up due to the complexity of it all but be patient and trust me this film is more than worth perservering with, and even if you don't like it, just give it a try. Enjoy viewing.

Highly Recommended!

I got this video because I've been wanting to salsa dance for awhile, but have always been intimidated by the scene and always shied away from the idea of being the klutzy beginner around people who already danced. I was pleasantly surprised by the length of this video (and hour and a half long!) which is longer than any other i've looked at. Let's just say the video gave me a great foundation and armed me with enough skill to finally go out- I've since started going to some of the clubs and love it! I've even been asked who I've taken lessons with. I credit the clear and complete teaching on the DVD. It's also funny, and both the guy and girl instructors do a great job of explaining everything thoroughly. I'm already improving, and I can't wait for volume 2, which is supposed to come out soon? Def. going to get it! I think I'm going to send it to my sister, who's been wanting to learn too.

An epic masterpiece

My favorite film.An epic, a classic, a masterpiece. This film is too good for words.I have to say that Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino deserved more screen time together but it is brilliant to keep you in suspense like that. The ending is really good especially the way the music is involved with it.Just buy it, I loved it, you'll love it, don't be a jabroni and miss out.

Best Home Workout Ever

I haven't felt this good since I was a teenager! After my marriage, like most people, I put on some serious weight! Fifty-five pounds to be exact. Now after having used this workout, I am on top of the world. Almost at my goal I'm sure to be a knockout for bikini season this year. No more shorts and over-sized tee shirts for me!

An absolute must for any Mexican 5 to 65 years old !!!

This is the DVD collection to end all DVD collections. If you are a mexican child anywhere from 5 to 65 years old you just must remember Don Gato, Cucho, Espanto, Demostenes, Benito, Matute, Arabella, Laszlo Lozla and the many, many other characters that were forever imprinted into our collective imaginations by the wonderful voice of El Tata. I had been waiting more than 10 years for a collection like this and must tip my hat to Hanna-Barbera for letting all of us return to our childhoods with this absolutely amazing collection !!!

Del Shores is amazing

"Sordid Lives" was a highly successful stage play, and Del transferred it to the screen himself. The characters are wonderful -- funny and poignant by turns. The actors are all first-rate. They fit into those skins as if born to them (OK, some of them obviously 'were' born to them). If you like some of Del's other work (Daddy's Dying:Who's Got the Will, many Queer as Folk episodes), you'll love this. If you've never seen a Del Shores play, you should start here.

One of the most beautiful, magical movies ever made.

I saw this when I was a young woman in college and loved the magic and the depth of the characters--more than just card board fairly tale characters. I watched it with my 8 year old daughter recently (I wanted to wait until she could read the subtitles, so I wouldn't have to speak over the actors' beautiful voices) and she also adored it. It's now part of our collection.

Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan (Director's Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Entertaining!

So, round two of my quest to watch all of the Star Trek movies in order from the beginning: The Wrath of Khan. Often touted as the best of the ST movies, Star Trek II involves the villainous Khan (ruthlessly portrayed by Ricardo Montalban), a criminal, genetically-advanced human, exiled to a barren planet forever...until now.
By chance, Federation ship Reliant unknowingly explores the planet on which he is held captive, and Khan's visitors soon find themselves trapped...coerced to serve his evil deeds under the influence of an indigenous brain parasite. Of course, Khan's plan is to find his original captor (Captain turned Admiral James T. Kirk, played by William Shatner) and avenge the death of his wife as well as his exile to a dead planet.
The movie follows Khan's pursuit of Kirk and escalates to a battle of proportions only Star Trek could deliver. Montalban gives an excellent performance of Khan, although his psychotic vengeance too often seems to override his allegedly "superior intellect." Making her movie debut, Kirstie Alley (aka Rebecca Howe from tv's "Cheers") portrays the stoic "by the book" cadet Saavic....oddly enough, she makes a great Vulcan. Although I hardly understand how her long flowing mane of brown hair could possibly pass Federation regulations (just watch the movie, you'll see what I mean).
As the ultimate blow to the film, Spock comes to his ultimate demise in this movie. However, those familiar with the entire series of movies will know that this is indeed not the end (vis a vis ST III: The Search for Spock), and that the dramatic send-off of his character in Wrath of Khan is one of the most poignant (and controversial) in ST history.
To sum it up, ST II is great fun! Even if you're a Star Trek peon like me, you'll find it quite entertaining! :)

Great Mary-Kate and Ashley Movie

I love Mary-Kate and Ashley! They seem like great girls who are real and down-to-earth. They aren't the best actresses in the world, but they are talented. I love this movie. The setting in the Bahamas is beautiful, and the script is fun. Mary-Kate and Ashley's characters are upset that they have to miss a trip to Hawaii with their class but wind up getting to go to the Bahamas with their family. They encounter a lot of interesting things. This is definitely one of their best movies, and I don't think it is just for little girls. Young adults would also like this movie, such as me. Anyone who likes Mary-Kate and Ashley would love this movie. It has comedy, adventure, and romance. I highly recommend this!
