Very Good Movie

"You can't live a fairy tale." Meg Ryan as Kate-
Oh but I beg to differ, see this movie! Hugh Jackman is the Duke of Dashing charming, educated and witty. His portrayal of the lost in time noble brings across a genuine naivety that is both provocative and alluring. Meg Ryan is the quirky businesswoman driven to get ahead but blinded by that ambition to the advances of her superior. Enter Leopold to save the day!
While not on the same level as Somewhere In Time as far as the movie's romantic intensity, it did have a more plausible means of time travel than Somewhere In Time. In Time, Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) used a mind over matter technique. In Kate and Leopold, weather patterns were followed to find the time window then the person had to jump through the eye. It is worth the time to see it!

Shows a woman's true beauty, add another 5 stars

I don't think "Calender Girls" got ever got the credit it deserved. The movie had all the important elements to make it a hit. It was funny, sad, daring, creative, unique, a true story and it had partial nudity. What was missing was special effects, improbable story lines, obnoxious characters and expensive sets, all things I do well without. Helen Mirren (Prime Suspect 1-6, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, Gosford Park, Raising Helen) and Julie Walters (Harry Potter, Educating Rita) were fantastic and exuded beauty that transcends beyond age. This is an uplifting movie that I first rented but then bought to keep in my collection. It's not just for baby boomers and above, both my kids, ages 15 and 10 enjoyed it too. My ten year old, a boy, roars with belly laughter at the movie's most famous line
"I think we're going to need significantly bigger buns."
This is a must-see for anyone who has ever truly loved a woman. "Calendar Girls" makes a great Mother's Day gift too!

I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE - FIVE TIMES

Anyone who reads too much into this film like many are doing of course may be disappointed. Keeping in mind that it is still just a french horror film, you should watch it like its a horror film. It's fun and scary, the opening fight scene is sexy (but its too bad they cut Mark Decascos and Samuel LeBihan both fighting in that scene)and I feel the way it was filmed was extraordinary and beautiful. Yes, I agree the beast was a little disappointing. I was expecting something more realistic, but watching Mani and Fronsac easily made me forget about it. And I can't believe that I have not seen a comment by anyone about the fact that Fronsac looks like Mickey Rourke when he was in his prime. I am praying that this movie is released on DVD in the US because I will be the first to buy it.

Starship Troopers - movie DVD cover picture
Got to look at it as a satire, then it's good

If you view this film knowing how Heinlein wrote it, then it's a very interesting movie. The acting is cliched, and so much of it is overdone, but the reality is, in order to be true to Heinlein, it has to be. It, and the book that inspired it, are satires on propaganda and war. While the movie certainly doesn't follow the book step for step in plot, it captures its point.
If you're looking for a sci-fi war story, this will serve, but you'll likely come away thinking it silly or poorly done. If you like satires however, this should satisfy.

Remo, where for art thou?

A movie for the Destroyer fan, but really nobody else. It's not that true to the origins of Remo of the details of CURE. BUT there is much more Chiun - not just the bit part Karate instructor in the original book. Contrary to the info here, it WAS filmed at the Statue of Liberty during cunstruction - it was the ONLY movie shot there. There was ALSO a replica of the top created in Mexico. For some strange reason, nobody wanted this guy stomping on the REAL statue. If you're a fan, get it. If you like adventure movies, it's on a par with the Mat Helm flicks (campy, does not take itself seriously.)

Enemy Mine

Excellent story! A classic tale of two enemies forced to work together to survive, and finding out that their two peoples are really not as different as they thought, with a twist. One dies, leaving a child behind for the other to raise, and the line between species vanishes completely...

Miffy Rocks!

Miffy is the perfect show for my 2 year old. We have both of the new DVD's which are the shows off of Noggin. Combined with great visuals, the shows have a nice steady pace that your preschooler should be able to follow along with. This is one of the only video's we own that he really laughs with..

Popeye reigns supreme!

This was one of the first movies I ever saw as a kid. I loved it then and I love it now. It's just so well done. It brings the cartoon to life in a way that no ther movie could ever hope to do. The casting is perfect. Robin Williams and Shelly Long ARE Popeye and Olive. The songs in this movie are really dumb but they're suppose to be. They're also funny and catchy. I find myself humming them all the time. I recommend this movie to anyone. Hey parents, want a good, clean, wholesome movie for your kids? Get this one
