Classic Comedy, Perhaps the Funniest Movie Ever

If you haven't seen this classic spoof on the middle ages in England, you have missed out. The comedy is fresh and keeps on coming in this classic film from the British comedy group Monty Python. The story has to do with King Arthur finding a few good knights and setting out to find the fabled Holy Grail. There are many memorable parts to this film, and it is still very popular today, with good reason. I often find myself recalling amusing parts from the film, such as the witch scene, the wedding scene, and the killer rabbit and the holy handgrenade, which is my favorite part. The film doesn't go overlong, it stays at a lively 90 minutes, and although it leaves you wanting more, it is not going to take a large chunk out of your day. This movie is not a star vehicle and does not use cursing tirades to achieve comedy. (I don't consider the latter true comedy.) However, the stars of this movie, although they all play triple- and quadruple-roles, are endlessly entertaining. This is most certainly their best film, and it is worth buying because you will want to see it again and again.

We Believed Barris Did Work for CIA

My friend Joyce and I saw this together and by the end of it, we believed that Chuck Barris did work for the CIA as an assassin while he was producing ludicrous tv shows that pandered to the lowest common denominator. Actually, it is BECAUSE he could create demented, inspired, cruelly laughing-at-your-audience shows like Dating Game, Newlywed Game and the Gong Show that we believe he could also be a CIA agent. This is one twisted guy who does not respond to any of the traditional rules most people live by. He has no code of conduct, no sense of morality and was easily able to travel all over the world because of his shows, with no one thinking his travel odd. It is utterly fascinating material. George Clooney (director), Charlie Kaufman (writer) and Sam Rockwell (the lead as Chuck Barris) bring it all home. It is riveting viewing.

Director Anh Hung Tran's third effort is another intoxicating look at post-war Viet Nam that blends modernism and its problems with oriental mysticism and its values. Even on a small screen, the pastel beauty of rural Viet Nam contrasted with the congestion of its urban life make for powerful visual appeal. Speaking of which, the appeal of star Tran Nu Y?n-Kh? is nothing short of haunting. The plot line is easy enough to follow, and even the subtitles do not detract from the film's flow. I can't wait to watch it again!

A movie worth watching!

Definitely a wonderful movie, Malena, brings to the screen the story of a GORGEOUS Italian young woman whose husband is pronounced KIA in Eastern Africa during WWII. Subsequently, Malena falls victim to the gossip and prejudice of the wartime Sicilian town, resulting in the establishment of a vicious circle/self fulfilling prophecy where all that she if falsely accused of being and doing, slowly, steadily and gradually, becomes reality.
Malena is a film about human relations, hope and second chances, but most importantly about how trust, love, and inner strength, can lead out of situations, which might seem bleak or desperate at first glance.
In addition, the movie deals with such concepts as Envy, Jealousy, Prejudice, Intrigue, Lust, Greed and Hypocrisy, which are very unpleasant and yet are an integral part of human nature.
Needless to say, Monica Bellucci and the rest of the cast have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least!
Strongly recommended along with Mediterraneo for the lovers of such films.

Argento's best, and a must have!

Dario Argento directed this movie twenty years ago, and today it still remains as his ultimate masterpiece. Regardless of genre, in my opinion this is the most beautiful movie ever made. The sound, the colors, the directing, the sets, the incredible scenes -- all lead to a truly remarkable cinematic achievement! I love this film.

Orlando's Most Vocal New Release

Orlando Bloom finally got a chance to show his talent as an actor in this film, his confidence was as obvious as it was alluring. In the Lord Of The Rings series he did not have the chance to be nearly as articulate or use his combat skills nearly as much as demonstrated in this spectacular preformance with Johnny Depp. I give it 5 stars because its one film i can honestly say didn't go over kill with the special effects and computer graphics, for once the actual story was the star insted of its enhansments. i recommand this film to anyone wanting to be sucked into a really fun adventure, especially if you like action with a sense of humor.

The Nightmare Before Christmas - movie DVD cover picture
Best animated musical ever?

Stop-motion animation may be the most pain-stakingly labourious art-form around, but its effects can be quite enchanting. In 'Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas', the 3-dimensional puppets give a vibrant live-action look that would somehow be missing from run-of-the-mill 2-D cartoon drwawings.
The original inspiration for the film came from a poem that Burton had wrote while working for Disney in the early 80's. He was originally going to use it as a narration to a short animation feature he was going to make in the style of his early films such as 'Vincent and 'Frankenweenie'. After he left Disney, the company kept the copyright. Then came the enormous success of Burton's first 3 movies and suddenly Disney became interested again. Although the theme of the story is a little darker than the usual Disney fare, with Tim Burton's name in the title they were willing to take the risk.
Halloweentown is a fantastical space in which all the grotesque characters inhabit a culture where it's okay to be different, messed up and miserable. A Burtonesque utopia if you will. Although Burton's name lies above the title, the two biggest creative minds behind the project were director Harry Selick and composer Danny Elfman. One of Selick's biggest influences in formulating the look of the film was Charles Laughton's 'The Night Of The Hunter' which made such expressive use of lighting. Elfman's songs are a revelation and this without a doubt is the best animated musical I've ever seen.
