VAN HELSING

This is one of the films that you either love or loathe. I can think of a handful of my favourite films like this.
Van Helsing is by far the most addictive of late for me. Dracula, as many know, is some what alluring. Richard gets 10/5 for his amazing performance. Van Helsing and Anna are nicely acted. And carla is just like a laughable lovable teddy. What more can I say? It has humour, sex appeal, Horrors, vampires and action. What makes a great vamp flick.

But this isn't for everyone by far. I would say that only 12 up should watch this even with parents...
For people up to date with horror fiction, will be delighted to see familair characters such as Dr Hyde [used in a way that he could be considered Hunch back of N.D. too], Dracula, Frankestein and the Warewolf. Along with the hunch back assistant. What more do you really want people?

Loved it!!

This is a wonderful movie that is definately headed for the oscars. The acting is excellent, the plot and story is breathtaking, the scenery and just the way it was made was something that you just can not miss. The extra DVD with speacial feature's is also really cool. And for those of you worried about the violence just know if you can handle some of the gory episodes of the x-files you can handle this easy.

Its a touching emotional ride

You have a family that has lost their "sun" or "moon" and they can't function the way they were able to. By an awesome twist of fate here comes a woman that can light up anyones life with her gentle touch and a smile. This movie was believable, it could have happened. With all the overlooking stares and gossip that the era was used to, it brought out the realism of the romance that would occur. Two thumps up, and a triple finger snap in a circle.

Tell Me What You Don't Like About Yourself

I actually do not watch shows like Nip/Tuck, in part because I don't recieve HBO. I remember the first time I saw this drama was in Season 1 and after watching, I didn't think much of it. I was bored the next week and saw it again and for some reason I just kept watching. I don't know why, but I did. The next summer I saw that Nip/Tuck had gotten a second season, I thought I'd check it out because the last season was alright and it managed to keep me entertained. I can now say with absolute certainty that this is the best show on television, this season in particular is it's finest. There is a reason that it one its Golden Globe for best drama, trust me, there is a good reason.

I can understand why people will be skeptical when tuning into this drama for the first time, it's very different. But that's what makes it great; the character development and acting is top notch.

Season Two brings back all the famaliar faces you saw in Season One. Beginning with Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh), the moral doctor, who is having trouble with his wife Julie McNamara (Joely Richardson) as well as his teenage son. Throughout the entire season the family is ripped apart and all of the characters are broken, piece by piece. The beautiful and wildly charming Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) is back as well. Christian's character develops throughout the entire season, and we see that he is actually human and has feelings. He tries in vain to keep his son, Wilbur, from his unfit mother. Mid-Season it comes to a climax when Christian's world is turned upside down due to Jules's revelation, which I won't say because it's big and it would be a spoiler.

Another plot embedded into all of this chaos is the disarming Ava Moore (Famke Janssen), who just adds to the sinister elements in this show. As a psychologist she can easily get into the character's minds and mess with everyone, she uses this to her advantage in every episode she appears in. Shortly after beginning her sessions with Matt McNamara (John Hensley), Sean's son, she develops a relationship with him and falls in love (??) with him. Matt is completely head over heels for her. The only problem is she is twice is age and Julia and Sean are obviously not to happy about it.

As the season peaks and comes to an end, so much happens, I can't even explain it. There are so many disturbing twists, it's just an emotional roller coaster. The relationship between Ava and her "adopted son" is not what it seems to be and, without giving too much away, becomes incredibly powerful in the finale. The cliffhanger in the finale is one of the best cliffhangers I have ever seen. While it seems like it would be predictable, nothing can prepare you for it. Once you get a hit of this show, you won't be able to stop.

You'd Be Crazy to Miss Vince Vaughn's 'Psycho'

As the title of my review suggests this is Vince Vuaghn's Psycho, not Alfred Hitchcock's, not even Gus Van Sant's, he's the key component that makes his film worthy of repeat viewing. He plays Norman Bates to such eerie perfection that I'm sure would've made Anthony Perkins pround. It's not to say it's a better performance, certainly it's not subtle, just more accurate. Vaughn's Norman slips in and out of conciousness, both figuratively and literally. He lets on to the fact that he's a lost soul looking for acceptance anywhere he can find it, even in a stranger, a passer-by who he finds attractive and in one particularly revealing moment, masturbates to. Perkin's Bates was much more friendly and outgoing, the type of guy you'd like to have coffee with, not as threatening and some may think that in itself makes his performance the better of the two, an argument I agree with - to an extent. I can't say which version I perfer because both are thoroughly entertaining and each has it's own claim to supremacy. It's a generational argument that likely will go unanswered though the orginal will likely be remembered with more fondness if simply for the fact that is was so groundbreaking for it's time. The only gripe I have with this remake is that it's little more than a shot-for-shot retelling of the movie rather than reverting back to the book which was in my opinion the better than the movie to begin with. We already know what's going to happen so why not spare us the gimmacks that we so inovative forty years ago and beef up the story a bit more? You'd think Joe Steffano who wrote the book and both scripts would want his orignal vision of this story to be seen but instead treds the same farmilar ground, not wanting to step on any toes. But despite my dissappointment in the writing, the performances themselves make this movie a must-see. And I strongly suggest DVD owners listen to the commentary track as Vince reverts back to his Swingers mode to stealing his co-star and director's thunder.

Best Summer Movie

When I first began seeing trailers for this film, it held little or no appeal to me. Even though I enjoy Johnny Depp's work normally, the idea of making a movie based on a Disneyland ride seemed kind of silly. What a terrific surprise to discover that I was completely wrong! This was far and away the best film I have seen this summer. It had me laughing out loud and rooting for the leads, almost against my will. I wish I had known about staying through the credits, though. I plan to go and see it again and this time I will stay the course. Go see this film if you still remember what movies are supposed to be like!

Excellent remastering of this mess of a comic masterpiece

For what is basically a "bargain" DVD, the video remastering is a tremendous improvement over the ghastly quality of the "middle-speed" LP VHS version I popped for a couple of years ago. It must be very close to the original film's colors, with highly natural skin tones and great overall dynamic range. Saturation is a tad underdone, which is to my taste.Audio is another matter. It's all over the map, ranging from quite clear to "telephone" quality, but I suspect the original was essentially beyond meaningful repair. Still, it is readily decipherable throughout.Considering that it includes one of the funniest scenes EVER filmed -- the "mystery" singer performing "Mad About The Boy" for Roman Polanski at the ship's bar -- this DVD is a must for anyone with a madcap sense of humor.
