Utterly entertaining...

Stone Reader is without question one of the best films I have ever seen. It is warm, witty, intelligent, and utterly entertaining. I have seen it three times, and have enjoyed it more each time. It's a movie that grows with repeated viewings. If you love books, care about art and how we treat our artists, or if you simply want to be entertained, buy this DVD.

From a boy to a Man

What a terrific movie. The music is just wonderful and fits the movie to a 'T'. I recently bought the CD at Borders, Books and Music (Dec 21, 03), because years ago I owned the LP!!! I was disappointed to find that the movie is only available on VHS though. Guess I'll reluctantly buy it because I'd love to laugh and cry all over again. Can't even rent this anymore, it's a shame. The good movies go and the junk is always rentable.

Desrves more than 5 stars!

This video was recored live in Central Park on September 19, 1981. I think it deserves more than 5 stars. I think is the greatest video that ever was. Simon and Garfunkel sing infront of 500,000 people. It contains 2 extra songs that were cut from the album; The late great Johnny Ace, and Late in the evening(reprise). Durring The Late Great Johnny Ace, a duranged fan jumps on stage after Paul sings about John Lennon being shot. Paul gets real scared and the bouncer comes and grabs the kid and takes him away. The highlight of the evening I think is when Paul sang 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. Art sings an OK version of Bridge over troubled water. Paul and Art play with an amazing backing band too. Also much of the dialogue that was cut from the record, is restored on the tape. Things such as intro's of songs, Paul introduces the band, and Paul had a speech about fireworks. I think it is great and you should buy it. You can't be considered a Simon and Garfunkel fan without it.

Luminous!

The sharks are smarter than the people! Mind-boggling! Scientists have come up with the cure to Alzheimer's Disease with the sharks' fluids? Genius. Thomas Jane is a shark hunter and LL Cool J is a cook! YES! Samuel L. Jackson makes fun of the midget from "Fantasy Island" (a moment of uproarious laughter). A pretty English lady who started the whole experiment made inferior decisions by letting the sharks stay alive. The sharks bit off a guy's arm, flooded the research center, made a helicopter crash into a tower and explode which started the fiasco. Superb! It was marvelous when Jackson tried to lead the group of scientists and the shark popped out of the water and ate [him]. Too bad the sharks didn't live happily ever after eating fresh meat from coast-to-coast. Electrocution, explosions and excitement! LL Cool J delivers, Thomas Jane kicks butt and Saffron Burrows was too hot. YES, YES and more YES!

Negligence, Mother Nature and 1000+ people in one movie

My fave film of all time and a shockingly disappointing DVD. Sure the picture quality is great and the "Menu" hints at a sense of humor from the folks behind the re-packaging....but that just makes the lack of content all the more disappointing for fans of this landmark film. No commentary or special features... They really need to go back and start from scratch with putting the tributes together for this one!!!

This movie could have only been made in the 1980s

I was born in 1974, so I'm now old enough to remember two entire decades - the 80s and 90s. Compared to the somehow-hopeful, PC 1990s, it's amazing to see how dark, terrfying, and graphic many mainstream 1980s movies were. The Terminator embodies many qualities of such dark movies, and serves as a historical social record for the paranoid, technophobic, cold-war 80s.
It's also an awesome, balls-to-the-wall sci-fi film that pretty much set the standard for action movies.
First off, this movie wouldn't have been half of what it was without Arnold Schwarzenegger. Holy #$&8! this guy embodies the movie concept - an unstoppable killing machine, who, in the words of frail human protector Kyle Reese, "Can't be reasoned with, can't be bargained with, and absolutely will not stop, until you are dead!"
Death, destiny or doom, love, and courage are all themes wrapped into this outstanding movie, which refuses to be dated or made obsolete even in the face of advanced computer CGI that flood movies made these days. They used stop-action animation in this movie, but it still looks good even 18 years later. And though you can tell it's animation, you don't care, which is powerful proof that story drives a movie, not FX.
Five stars all around. And the DVD Dolby soundtrack is outstanding, too.

Absorbing and powerful

What can I say? This film was done in 1976 so visual editing was still, well, 1976 era type of editing. It's almost watching a home movie. Dont expect bright, crisp scenes. You'll realize this film has a ton of bugs as far as movie editing is concerned. Focus more on the music that these guys wrote and played. That's what this film is all about--- the music.
The only sad note to this film for me is that I will never get to see John Bonham play again. He was to me the greatest rock drummer --- all time

CLOSE TO PERFECT

The only annoying thing about this great documentary on the famous baseball team is that events are told more than once too often. You sometimes say to yourself that you saw some of the things in the first dvd when you watch the second.Apart from that, this has it all, from the stars of each decade to the singles greatest teams;from the tragic deaths of LOU GEHRIG and THURMAN MUNSON to the MANTLE-MARIS historic 1961 season.Baseball fans can't go wrong by buying this 2 dvd set.I really enjoyed the chapter about the YANKEE STADIUM best. When you think about it,baseball without the YANKEES would not mean the same. They really choose the best moments, although it would have been nice to have an hidden camera to catch all the controversy surrounding REGGIE JACKSON when he was playing there.I would have suggest a wrestling cage match between REGGIE and BILLY MARTIN as a bonus feature.Buy this,it's worth your money, even if the MONTREAL CANADIENS are the all time best on my list.

It's about time!!!!!!!!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited about this release! Maybe the more of us who show support for this incredibly funny show will help get more of the seasons out on DVD in addition to the 1st season! All I have to say is I'm waiting by my mailbox on November 24, which is when I'm expecting my package to arrive...TV today is just not the same, especially compared to a legendary show like the Golden Girls.
