Upbeat Anime

Usually when it comes to such a dire story as the one portrayed in Blue Seed, the characters are dark and the story extremely cold and serious. But Blue Seed stands out as being able to have a sense of humor throughout the series. It strikes a balance between a "kid" focused anime and a "thinker" anime, what with the very funny characters involved, and the story's obvious opinion about modern Japan. Voiced by Megumi Hayashibara, Momiji is an endearing character with a good heart, if kinda air-headed personality. I recommend this anime.
This DVD set is pretty cool, with a HUGE number of episodes per disc considering the usual is 3, with the first disc in a series having 4. Very cost effective way to own a whole series. The English dub wasn't as eye watering as is usualy for anime (my opinion anyway). The Omake Theater was something that first surprised me, then made me laugh out loud. Character bios were pretty decent, explaining the names and other personality traits. This set is something I recommend buying.

Say Anything... - movie DVD cover picture
One of my favorite movies from the 80's!

This is a wondeful examination of relationships. First we have the relationship between Diane (Ione Skye) and Lloyd (John Cusack) which is so sweet. Diane is the Valedictorian at the High School as well as the top acheiving student who also took classes in college while still in high school. Lloyd is, well Lloyd is Lloyd. He doesn't have any real plans for the future, but he sure does love kickboxing! He lives with his divorced sister and her son and his parents live abroad because his Dad is in the Military. Lloyd decides that he doesn't want to be like his dad and join the Military, instead he aspires to greatness by asking out Diane to the graduation party of the year! At first Diane has no idea who this guy is, but decides to go with him anyway. It doesn't take long for her to notice that Lloyd is no ordinary guy. Soon they develop a romance that Diane's father is not to excited about. He feels that Lloyd is just a distraction to Diane and that she needs to concentrate on her academic career. Eventually Diane's father drives them apart because he is having financial difficulties and makes Diane choose her loyalties. Once Diane realizes that her father has been lying to her about his problems, she runs to Lloyd for forgiveness. This is a wonderful movie that explores relationships between boyfriend and girlfriend, brother and sister, and child to parent. Would highly recommend this film to anyone. The scene where Lloyd tries to win Diane back by holding a boom box outside her window playing the song that they made love to is so touching and sad it makes me want to yell out to Diane to go out and get Lloyd. A must see for John Cusack fans. Ironically, one of my other favorite movies from the 80s is the Rachel Papers which also stars Ione Skye and is also a sweet romantic film.

A funny movie

A funny movie that is for both women and men. Will Smith and Kevin James who is one of my favorite comedians are great in this movie. Very funny and is a perfect date movie to take your girlfriend or wife which I did take my girlfriend, her cousin, and her cousins boyfriend to see. She liked it, I liked it, her cousin liked it, and her cousin's boyfriend liked it. Eva Mendes, Amber Valletta, and Julie Ann Emery are hot.

Beautifully written. The screen was filled with vibrance with characters that seemed truly involved in their roles. The director, cinematographer, and the costumes made Shakespeare in Love a truly remarkable film.

Heavy stuff, but really good.

'Death and the Maiden' is a searing account of a woman who wants both revenge and closure on a rape that she went through many years ago. She ties her rapist up (after coincidentally finding him years later) and forces him to admit what he did. Sigorney Weaver is just the actress to be in this movie. It is absolutely fantastic, and gut-wrenching.

Zippy Pilates

As others have noted, this is a well produced video with a range of increasingly challenging routines. I will be using it daily.
The producers are honest in suggesting we begin with some work under a trained instructor. The DVD proceeds at a fast pace and would be mind-boggling for a rank beginner. Twelve minutes for the whole intermediate mat is a sprint, but the upside is that we're not kept waiting around for long chatty digressions that soon lose their charm by repetition.
My only other quibble is with the accent of the instructor. Bob Liekens may be a Pilates master, but the DVD would have been better if it had been narrated by someone with a more neutral accent.

Dark Angel - The Complete First Season - movie DVD cover picture
Grippng story, heroine, hero & villain.

My first exposure to Dark Angel was the episode entitled Blah, Blah, Woof Woof. From then on, Dark Angel night was a must with no interruptions allowed. The premise of this show, creating genetically altered human beings, is a controversial topic. The illegally diverted government funds that paid for the experiment added to the story's vitality. The characters were complex and dynamic: a heroine in search of her humanity and how she fit into a society that was not ready for her altered state; a hero driven to confront and expose the injustices of a "third-world" United States and the business corruption that exploited the down-trodden while benefitting from that same corruption; a cold-blooded villain whose dedication to and protection of the genetically enhanced humans made him feared and heralded simultaneously. Both the friends and enemies of these characters kept the action suspenseful and well paced.
The characters dealt with the world we face and its problems. Their motives and actions were as complex as humans can be with no easy answers. The plot and characters interweaved well and kept the audience intrigued. The actors kept getting better as their characters developed. I still miss this show. I'm hoping that a movie or another "series" or "special" will continue the story. The book Before the Dawn, published after cancellation, was a welcome addition to the background story.

"The Hours" Fly By

I had three reasons to wanting to see this movie, badly.
3. Its a drama about depression. And I really needed a good, sad movie.2. I had read the book.1. Nicole Kidman starred.
I loved the book, and because Nicole Kidman played Virginia Woolf, maybe I am a bit bias when I say, the movie is so much better. Which says a lot because the book is wonderful, groundbreaking. Could anything but win a Pulitzer prize? But the shockingly real performances of the three starlets was amazing. A movie that should have been boring, never lost its pace and always held your ineterest!
