Unseen footage

The DVD is great. Sharp colors, good sound. But watching the episode in which Jerry goes to Manhattan I couldn't help notice there is a 5-8 seconds sequence that you won't find in today's Cartoon Network version.
Jerry is dipped down, as if its head was a shoe brush, into a jar of black cleaning solution and when its finally pulled out he looks the way they used to portrait black people in the 50's. ( Of course, the cartoon was made then ).

Grand French Don Carlo!

This got rave reviews when performed and it deserved all of them. Dream cast, even Alagna, were wonderful!! The spare production/costumes worked and the French version is devine! Also, I think this is the only video available of it. Mattilla, Hampson, Van Dam are just unbelievably perfect (in spite of Hampson's silly wig). Alagna still needs schooling in proper technique but he sounded the best I've ever heard him in this production. He always performs best in French, of course. If he could just progress technically as fast as his wife has, he could be a wonderful tenor as the timber of his voice has quality. Hampson and Mattilla just keep improving past perfection! Van Dam is still one of the best baritones in the world - a legend! This ranks with me as one of the best opera videos available and as good, even though different, as the Met's Don Carlo production with Domingo. Buy it for the cast, if nothing else. This soars!

An amazing film

This first time I saw this film I was only three years old and I have to say I fell in love with it. Even today, it still tops my favorite films list. As many have said the story of Mozart's life may not have been portrayed completely accurate, but the story they do portray is an excellent one. It is one of very few movies that I would suggest everyone watches.

Deniro's most underrated film?

I think this is definatley the most underrated film for Marty/Deniro and possibly even for Deniro. King of Comedy is the portral of Rupert Pupkin who has dreams of late night television. Robert DeNiro gives one of his best performances to date as the slightly nuerotic Rupert Pupkin. Also stars Sandra Bernhardt a crazed fan of Jerry Lewis, together Deniro and Bernhardt are hilarious. King of Comedy is one not to be missed and we see Deniro & Marty at the top of their game.

Just received this video and viewed it immediately!!Boy, what a great concert he gave. This video is of his 1990 tour and his selection of songs is outstanding. He sings and performs in this video some songs I have not heard before, such as his opening song "I Get Lonely" which he wrote and another song he also wrote called "Step Into My Life". The video gives you 80 minutes of great entertainment as only Engelbert can do. It is a good video for your collection and I would even go so far as to say, "ONE OF HIS BEST"!!Enjoy!!

Coffin Joe - Awakening of the Beast - movie DVD cover picture

This film really has to be experienced, as it defies any attempt to review it objectively due to the fact that it never fails to evoke an extreme response from anybody who has seen it. Suffice to state that my own reaction to it is favourable and probably one of the most hallucinogenic experiences ever to wind up on celluloid!

Unlike the other Coffin Joe (Ze do Caixao) films, this one is not directly in reference to Coffin Joe, as the film is consists of a series of increasingly bizarre vignettes where we see drug abuse and various exotic sexual acts, which are entirely unrelated to the title content. In many cases the first half of this film will certain be awarded some laughs, particularly when viewed against a back-drop of contemporary horror and exploitation films. However, once the film enters the second half, our lovable and most favourite of all wicked undertakers does emerge, although only in the minds of those who are subjected to an experimental situation, involving a shot of LSD and a poster of Ze do Caixao.

The similarity between this installment and those which have come before it is the fact that it must be viewed from the vantage point of a society heavily dominated by Catholicism and the fact that this film was released in 1969, when such scenes were hardly ever (if at all) committed to celluloid. What is seen is really not terribly shocking, but is alluded to by suggestion, shadows, music and atmosphere. This is, of course, precisely what Jose Mojica Marins (the director) had in mind and to this end the film was/is an ultimate success. The entire film is based around the ultimate truth that no inducement is required to incite anybody to commit acts of atrocity, as such elements are merely lying dormant in these individuals (which certainly seemed true of Brazilian society in Sao Paulo at the time).

Jose Mojica Marins stars in the film, both as himself and as Ze do Caixao and in some respects that can be a little confusing, as the connection between the subject matter and Coffin Joe is not made clear during the first half of the film. Of course, as the film progresses and the plot unfolds, it is clear that the same wicked intentions lie at the heart of this film, which is what makes it all the more fun to watch (in my opinion).

I am a fan of all the Coffin Joe films, so there is a natural tendency towards bias here, but still I could not fail to award full marks for this film (as I have done in all the Coffin Joe series). My only admonition is that this should not be the first Coffin Joe film that you watch, as its style and plot are a little too convoluted for a first experience and the first two films (At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul and This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse) should be seen and understood before progressing on to this one. However, for those who have seen the other films and are as mad about good old Ze as I am, this film is an absolute MUST and by far the most "trippy" film experience you are likely to have!

This movie just makes me feel good. I wouldn't even call it a guilty pleasure. It's like ice cream on a hot summer day. Like hot chocolate after playing in the snow. Olivia Newton-John became a total goddess to me after this movie came out. The music alone makes this film worthwhile, but I love watching Olivia dance with Gene Kelly....I don't care what critcs say. This movie is one of my all time favorites. Olivia met her future husband while doing this movie(he is featured in the background and during the You Made Me Love You/Whenever You're Away from Me sequence) and in the dvd/widescreen version you can have fun trying to spot him.......

and the Best Picture Oscar should go here

This film is everything it was hyped to be and more. I saw the great Andy Lau was starring plus that Zhang girl from "Crouching Tiger" and I knew this had to be special and it was.

First of all, the story is excellent. One of the most intriguing, captivating, and clever plots I have ever witnessed on film. The twists just kept coming and coming. By the end I was just speechless, I was so impressed. Beautiful love story set against the backdrop of a kind of war brewing between the government and a group of radicals. That's all I'm gonna say on that in fear that I'll give away too much.

The acting is great. I was so entranced with the emotional struggles these characters were going through. And yeah, it's really nothing knew. We've all seen many stories about 2 lovers that happened to be on opposing sides but this story had an originality to it that kept it from becoming too routine. I totally fell for the illusions the actors were creating. It was just so believable.

And yes, there was action. From the phenomenal opening dance number to the "final battle" the action scenes were a mix of traditionally detailed swordfights to unbelievable superhuman feats like grasping a sword with a piece of fabric. And I won't even go into the physics behind the actual "flying daggers". It's all good.

So the movie was great. Beyond great, it was flawless. As for the "haters" dissing the CGI please ignore that mess. If you are planning to view this film solely for the action and/or the special effects you might as well wait for the DVD and keep your thumb on the fast forward button. However, for those who are ready to experience a film that will connect with your soul as well as your adrenaline look no further than this "House".

Kevin Smith's best film

Kevin Smith has redefined comedy in his Jersey quintilogy, bringing life to an entire community filled with strange and hilarious characters. In "Clerks" and "Mallrats" he gave us pure comedy, but in this third installment, he brings a more serious side to the making of "Chasing Amy", and what he has created is an excellent movie all around.
This is the story of Banke and Holden, the creators of the underground comic book "Bluntman and Chronic" (based on the characters of Jay and Silent Bob). Holden falls in love with another comic book writer, Alyssa Jones, who happens to be a lesbian and happens to have a long and infamous sexual history. This is a love story, more than anything, about coming to terms with who you are, who your partner is, and their past. And Smith does this really well. We care and love all of the characters, and there is still plenty of comedy here. The bar scene where Banke and Alyssa are comparing scars from previous sexual episodes is absolutely hilarious.
The movie is stolen here by Banke, played by Smith constant Jason Lee. He spews his dialogue with such ferocity and fun, that we cannot help but love his conflicted and overly-aggressive character.
There is a big plot twist at the end here, but like Holden says, it seems so inevitable that they all get to this point. This is a great movie, because it is a love story, and a powerful and different one at that, as well as a hilarious comedy. There are plenty of comic book references here, as well as plenty of swearing and sexual dialogue, which makes Smith's writing that much more authentic and believable.
Maybe "Chasing Amy" isn't the funniest movie Smith has done, but it is definitely the best all-around movie he has made. There is intelligence here as well, making this a can't miss movie.
