Better Off Dead - movie DVD cover picture
Unrealistic, unbelievable . . . and hilarious.

This is a good film from the 80's. It's my favorite John Cusack film. I viewed it recently and enjoyed it almost as much as I did when I first saw it. Some of the story is unrealistic and unbelievable, but it's so funny from start to finish, you won't care. I loved the 80's music, too.

One of the best Series of all time.

I, Claudiius charts the life the Emperor Claudius from the reign of Augustus Caeser to that of Nero. It is compelling on several levels, first as a story about post-Republican Rome, annd secondly as the story of one man's life and rise from obscurity to become Emperor of Rome. Even those not interested in Rome, will find it be great entertainment.

Easy and Fun!!

I started doing Baby Tata on my daughter when she was 7 months old, she loved it from the beginning! Now at 1 yrs. old, she claps and gets excited when I turn on Baby Tata! She looks forward to the routine. It is so easy to follow, the music is great and my daughter loves the images too. Baby Tata is a great gift for new parents!
P.S. I think she sleeps better at night after she's had a little Tata during the day!

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - Criterion Collection (2-Disc Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Classic Anderson

I like Wes Anderson's quirky and some times dark usually subtle sense of humor, his arty treatment to film and his concentration on interpersonal relationships. He has the skillful literate ability to show people as buffoons while at the same time being very touching. His banter between characters can be hilarious. It is a winning formula that continues in The Life Aquatic.
Famed marine explorer Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) has a number of problems. His best friend was recently eaten by a shark, his fan base is shrinking and his rival is getting all of the available grant money. Then out of nowhere Ned Plimpton (played by Owen Wilson) appears to his rescue - however Plimpton just might be Zissou's son (the father-son theme is something we find reoccurring in Anderson films).
Off the wacky crew (some of Anderson's standard players) go to find the shark that killed Zissou's friend. Murray and Wilson are magical together. The retro (and sometimes psychedelic) special effects add more of the weirdness for which Anderson is famous. And like in many of Anderson's films a liberal use of familiar tunes is used, this time a lot of David Bowie (nice odd ball early Bowie - Anderson is definitely a man after my own heart) and one Iggy and the Stooges classic, which typical to form are incredibly appropriate. A great cast (which includes William DaFoe and Bud Cort) helps to make this movie a winner.
Second discs are now in vogue in selling DVDs and the second disc depending on the movie is sometimes a hit or miss. The extras in this package are exceptional and add to the package.

Incredible use of special features

This movie was really incredible. It completely captured the GenX disillusionment with our pop-bubblegum culture (to paraphrase from the movie a little). The dialogue is witty and intelligent. Having watched the movie a few times now, I enjoyed picking out elements throughout the beginning half of the movie that supported Jack's revelation later. Then I looked at all the special features included with the DVD. This DVD set easily makes the most and best use of the DVD format. They definitely provide enough great stuff to warrant a 2 disc set. If you enjoyed the movie at all, I recommend getting the DVD, if just for all the great special features.

This is my favorite movie in the whole world!!!

This movie may not be the greatest of all time, but it will always have a place in my heart because it introduced a then 12 year old girl to Aerosmith. Up until the performance of the Future Villian Band, I actually had a crush on Peter Frampton. The numbers by Steve Martin and Alice Cooper are weird, but still enjoyable.

Arabian Nights

If you enjoy fantasy, myth and lore--Arabian Nights is for you. Falling in a genre with such movies as Merlin and Jason and the Argonauts, this movie will take you on a magic carpet ride (Yes, there is a magic carpet) with beautiful special effects! I felt the beginning was a bit slow but once I realized that there were some wonderful stories to be told, I became entranced. My 7 year old daughter has me return to Aladdin and Ali Baba over and over again (thank goodness for DVD) A must have for any DVD collector! This is fun filled with great story telling by Mili Avital as Scheherazade. Of course, John Lequizamo as the "Genie of the lamp" is one of the premier character actors of all time. 5 stars for Arabian Nights!
