Sherlock Holmes - The Hound of the Baskervilles - movie DVD cover picture

This is certainly the best version of this classic tale that I've seen. Ian Richardson is superb as Holmes and the other characters are well-acted and believable. There is also some hauntingly good dialogue and an unforgettable soundtrack which adds to the wonderful atmosphere.

Surpising Entertainment

I'm not a big fan of lengthy period films, but Legends scores big with me here. The story is truly engrossing. You will WANT to see what happens to Tristan and his brothers. Performances are strong by Pitt, Quinn, Hopkins and Ormand. Aside from superb acting, this film is beautiful to watch with breathtaking cinematography. The musical score is appropriately "sweeping" yet not overbearing. At slightly over 3 hours, it's best to watch this one in just one sitting since you'll follow the characters more smoothly this way. I found myself almost not wanting their stories to end!

The Killing Of Mozart - A Thrill to all Senses!

This film is a classical music delight, offering all of Mozart's best known works, from his Opera "The Magic Flute" to his immortal "Eine kleine Nachtmusik". The production is visually stunning (Oscar Winning Custumes, Set Direction + Art Direction!).
The film suggests a plot by Mozart's mentor Salieri to slowly poison the music Wunderkind. The performances of both stars are superb (F. Murry Abraham won Oscar for his protrayal of the jealous Salieri; Thomas Hulce received nomination for the title role).
The DVD version has many extra perks, like director's commentary, behind the scenes look, and much more! Even after nearly 3 hours of show time, you will shout "Encore"! - The only way to top the DVDs visual and acustic glory is to view this Masterpiece in the Laser Disc version. Either way, this is a true gem!*****

A love story with some twists and some 'what-ifs'

Incorporating the 'time travel concept', two ham radio students (boy/girl, of course) talk to each other on their ham radios, only to discover they're from different times. They discover they go/have gone to the same school and gradually develop a love interest. There are many other factors such as the respective male/female friends each have in their own present time. As the story evolves, we see most of the main characters are linked with each other, regardless of 'time-displacement'. To paraphrase another reviewer, the ending is beautiful, poignant and powerful.

Pink Floyd - The Wall 25th Anniversary (Deluxe Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

I saw The Wall because I really like Pink Floyd's music and was curious how the movie would look. I'm sorry to anyone who disagrees, but I think that this movie is amazing and Roger Waters is a genius. Bob Geldof was awesome in this role and I really liked the little kid who played him as a child. The movie is basically an analysis of how we build a figurative wall around ourselves to block out the world which everyone, like it or not, can relate too. The movie is insane, it doesn't stay put or follow the conventional setup of how we think a movie should be done, very much like Pink who is basically going crazy. It was a very imaginative and creative venture. Pink Floyd's The Wall makes you pay attention to what's going on, you get wrapped up in trying to figure out what exactly is happening and I must admit it can be confusing at times but it's well worth the trouble. The music really adds another dimension to the movie that you don't normally get with dialog. And of course, Pink Floyd is super-cool and amazing, so the music is very beautiful and full of life and vivid emotions. The animation is just incredible it flows in an odd fluid sort of way, it seems very different from what you normally see. Some of the themes are (gasp) dark and to watch it you're going to need an open mind, sorry! This movie may not be for everyone but I think everyone should at least try it and see what they get out of it. It's very different, very confusing at times, but very worth it. Buy the soundtrack too!! This is an incredible movie, it's different, like everything about Pink Floyd and so incredibly original it blows my mind. Watch it!!

Dark Victory - movie DVD cover picture
"I think I'll have a large order of...prognosis negative!"

Long Island socialite Judith Traherne, the central protagonist in Dark Victory is going to face certain death. She has a crippling and degenerative brain disease that will eventually cause her to go blind and then die. This "prognosis negative" may not seem like the most optimistic subject matter for a movie, but under the sensitive direction of Edmund Goulding, Dark Victory takes on a shocking resonance and it's messages about death and dying are no doubt as timeless and probably just as significant today.

Dark Victory is an embarrassment of riches, an unashamedly tearful melodrama that features an absolutely electrifying, compelling, tour de force, tear-jerking performance from Bette Davis as Judith Traherne. Davis is in top form here, playing the doomed socialite with a neurotic, disturbed, and formidable intensity; she encapsulates the screen being as redoubtable as ever, with Judith insisting on her dignity even as a grave illness she seems to have beaten returns with an unbeatable vengeance.

Plagued by eye trouble, severe headaches, and a numbness in her arm, Judith is encouraged to meet with renowned doctor and brain surgeon Frederick Steele (George Brent). Judith knows deep down that something is terribly wrong, but she's a feisty strong-willed young woman who believes in just getting on with life. Consequently, she has slipped into a state of perpetual denial. Once Dr. Steele forces her to face the truth about her illness, Judith begins to fall in love with the handsome and dedicated doctor, admiring his affable and sensitive ways.

Surgery is obviously the only option, and at first, things seem to go well, but her crippling disease eventually comes back to haunt her and she's given only months to live. Ann King (Geraldine Fitzgerald), Judith's secretary and best friend, conspires with Frederick to keep the seriousness of Judith's her illness from her. They both do it, not out of spite or selfishness, but out of a gesture of love, and a desire to see Judith happy in her remaining months.

Judith gravitates between a whimsical carefree attitude towards her plight and a kind of stoic concern that things will be eventually work out all right for her. She friskily wrangles with her beloved doggies while still in bed, then bounces into the day in her silk pantsuit pajamas, all the while exchanging familiar niceties. It isn't until she learns the deadly ramifications of her illness that she starts to go off the rails, boozing with the playboys, smoking too many cigarettes, and soliciting the attentions of a smitten proletarian stable hand (Humphrey Bogart).

Dark Victory, for all it's foreboding and depressing themes, is actually quite uplifting and is also deftly paced and smartly energetic. Judith gets a new lease on life when she falls in love with Frederick and even though certain death draws near, nothing can stop her from continuing her savvy business deals, keeping prospective suitor Ronald Reagan on drunken hand, and leaping atop a galloping steed. Mawkish sentimentality, the hairpin turns of the plot, and even the not-so-subtle changes of heart by the central characters, never bog down the film or make the story too heavy-handed and overly maudlin.

Dark Victory ended up being one of Bette's biggest box office hits, and one can easily see why. This is a towering and commanding performance of unabashed melodrama and one of the most definitive pictures of her long and distinguished career. You never quite get used to seeing Bette this way, and you wish she'd been given even more chances to shine and play such a complex, intricate, and nuanced character as Judith Traherne. How to find the Movie version

I am not reviewing this product, but instead giving a relevant information for fans.

For those who are anxious to see the movie version (Macross: Do You Remember Love ?) in DVD you have two good place to buy.

1. Robert's Anime Corner Store (
2. YesAsia ( : For this site, do a search with title "LOVE Do You Remember" or artist "Kawamori Masaharu" (yes, that's weird, but if you type Do You Remember Love, the result is a Chinese VCD version).

Bear in mind, as the legal dispute regarding this movie is not unsettled, the DVD of this movie are Region 2 (Japanese) DVD with NTSC TV Format. The very same legal dispute cause an official release of this movie in Region 1 DVD is unlikely in the near future. IMDB trivia even says this movie might never be released in US.

The edition is the Perfect Edition, with additional 5-6 minutes taken from FlashBack 2012. ORIGINAL IMPORT VERSION, JUST SAY NO TO BOOTLEG/PIRATES.

chicken run

I rented the movie because we had enjoyed wallace and gromit so much. My eight year old and I watched it last night and busted a gut laughing. The characters we're so cute and funny that I can't even think of eating chicken for a while. Great story line and lots of great humor that children and adults will enjoy for a long time. It's a keeper. Hats off to the creators.
