Thrill ride from start to finish! An absoulte classic!

Silence Of The Lambs is an excellent film. Fueled by powerful stars and Demme's direction. Clarice Starling(Jodie Foster) is an FBI agent in training. She is recruited to help out with a major case. A serial killer, Buffalo Bill is killing young women all over the country. Starling is asked to question another killer in custody, Hannibal Lector(Anthony Hopkins) for clues on the case. The film has a great plot and is an excellent film. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, especially are in top form. All the oscars this won, it deserved. No doubt A MUST SEE! I highly anticpate Hannibal, its sequel due out next month. I would like to get the criterion dvd someday. The song I know a lot of people want to know as did I is called Goodbye Horses by Q. Lazzarus. This of course is the song that plays when Buffalo Bill dances with himself in front of the camera. A great song that sets the mood for that terrific scene. Also Tom Petty's American Girl is heard while Katherine is driving in Memphis. Rated R for violence, gore, nudity, and profanity.

the greatest motion picture ever when it comes to horror

I watched this in cinema many many years before, and watched this movie recently on DVD. I may have watched this for >10 times, on LD, VHS.....still this is a real great horror movie. It lost a little bit of shock, but still I am amazed by the dark humor, and the way the story tells, and its explicit gore and sex scene. A must for everyone, not just horror fan!

Aliens (Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Underscores the crispness of the editing in the original.

Aliens: a great action-adventure movie in a decade that defined the modern action-adventure movie. Any of the multitude of reviews here will wax enthusiastic on the movie's quality--so, what about =this= particular edition?
For me, the extra 17 minutes underscored how tight and well-done the film was =without= those minutes. For example, some exposition was added about Ripley's daughter. For some, this added exposition enhanced the later bond between Ripley and Newt. Setting aside for a moment the incompatibility between the deepspace-travel-with-cryogenic-freezing and the idea that she told her daughter she would be home in less than a year, what I was really impressed with was exactly how good a job the actors did conveying their bond =without= the exposition.
Stuff like that abounds. The seventeen minutes that were edited came from all over the film in tiny bits, so that very often you have to double-check to make =sure= it wasn't there.
Ultimately, whether the movie is better or worse with the extra footage is a matter of subtleties.
However, this is definitely a good DVD/home theater type film. The clarity of the picture and the depth of sound does justice to the original theatrical experience. Recommended.

La Dolce Vita (2-Disc Collector's Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
The shortest, most amazing three hours you'll ever spend

It would be easy to write off the movie that launched Federico Fellini to international acclaim as a decadent feast of glamour and vanity that adds up to little (the textbook for my film class does just so). If you did so, though, you'd be robbing Fellini's best, most complex, and most deeply moving film of everything it deserves. A first viewing of Vita was enough to convince me that it's a brilliant film; after seeing it again this weekend I'm kind of humbled at its very existence. Here is a movie that, for nearly three hours, holds you for dear life and then has you wanting it to go on at the credits. Here is a movie that has moments of oddball recklessness and quiet beauty, both deliriously gorgeous; one that puts its protagonist through hell and back but still gives him hope. Yeah, I could tell you a plot synopsis (gossip columnist (Marcello Mastrioanni) experiences the night life of Rome), but that would be cheating and wouldn't do it justice. La Dolce Vita, though about vanity and emptiness, is a movie of ideas. I've been thinking about it all day, I think I know what he's saying, and I just want to experience it again. And what an experience: the cinematography is graceful (not a handheld shot to be found), the performances surrounding that of Mastrioanni are gleefully over-the-top (look for Nico, of Warhol's 'Factory,' near the end), and the conclusion to which the film inexorably builds is as powerful as it is ambiguous. Yes, 8 1/2 is an interesting film, but its pretention gets in the way. Sure, La Strada and I Vitelloni are wonderful little neo-realistic works, but they seem to just hint at something on the horizon for the director. This is it, the Fellini movie that is perfect in every way. With La Dolce Vita, Italy's most beloved director shows he belongs in the same breath as The Bicycle Thief and The Passion of Joan of Arc when we talk about the best foreign films ever made. A+

24 - Seasons 1-3 - movie DVD cover picture

My wife and I recently got hooked on season 4 but had never seen seasons 1-3. One of the hardest parts of watching each week was the commercial interruptions and having to wait a week to see the next episode. With seasons 1-3 on DVD you really have to remember to get some sleep since you are tempted to keep watching for 24 straight hours. This is such a great show I can't believe we didn't get hooked earlier. This is a great deal on a great show.

Entrapment One of my favorite Movie's

An upststart, high stakes thief (Zeta-Jones) is taken in by a master of the perfect heist (Connery) and a May-December romance. This movie thrives on intricacies and unexpcted plot twists. Unless you are a veteran in the detective genre, this film will keep your eyes glued to the screen and your mind racing with possible outcomes. I recommend this movie for men and women and for those first "stay at home with a movie" dates. Include the Thomas Crown Affair and you are in for a sexy and intriguing evening.

Blood from the Mummy's Tomb - movie DVD cover picture

This new Anchor Bay DVD brings to the screen a little known Bram Stoker novel turned into a respectably spooky film. Valerie Leon does a great job as both victim and mummy. And what an attractive mummy (don't be fooled...the nude scene is an obvious body double). Valerie even has a recent interview as a bonus. THEN there is the Hammer trailer bonus disc. All in all a wonderful presentation. A++
