inside the trilogy...great sound

This movie have an excellent place if you own "das Boot" and the "search for red october." Then you have the 3 submarines movies to own. Das Boot is surely sup?rior and remains the r?f?rence..but U 571 has a fantastic sound with a lot of sp?cial effects that das boot don't have...mainly if you listen to it in DTS... this is an excellent dvd to own in your collection of submarines movies

The REAL Pearl Harbor story

With all the hubub surrounding the latest (definitely not greatest) movie: PEARL HARBOR, one is once again drawn back to this excellent movie made in 1970. TORA! TORA! TORA! attempts to present as balanced a presentation, from both sides in the conflict, as historical documentation will allow ... irrespective of the turbulence the latest round of "revisionist history" is causing. The aerial battle scenes are so real, one is almost transported back in time to Pearl Harbor in 1941. Keep in mind that the planes one sees on the screen are REAL, not phoney looking computer graphic models (which resemble little toy machinations out of STAR WARS in the current PEARL HARBOR movie). A great deal of time, careful thought and research, and money went into the making of TORA! TORA! TORA! ... and it is apparent at every turn. One of my very favorite movies of WWII. It attempts to present at least some of the answers as to why that terrible event took place. Excellent presentation.

If you've never seen the series then I'm sure your questioning buying this. My advice is check out the other reviews be it in the idiviual dvds themself or on this item combineing them.
As I don't have it in front of me I beleave this is a 9 disc set containing 3-4 episodes per dvd. This is the first arc of the series which spans 112 episodes. It only gets better as you go along.
I would recomend this over buying just the first couple as if you hate the first couple and wanna return them it's just as easy if you hate this to return it. But should you like it which I have a hunch you will you save yourself some money getting them all at once than buying each one seperately. Plus you get a nice little box to hold them in. Also on a side not I personally hate waiting for the next episode so this was ideal for me. As I got a alot of for alittle. Took me about 2.5 days to watch the whole arc.
Just to mention this for you people still saying well this is alot of money for me to spend on something I've never seen. The series is being aired on Cartoon network on toonami at 6pm currently. They seem to be changing their time slots alot lately. But check out a couple of episodes there to see if you like it.
If you like animae I think you will enjoy this most defintally. =)

The best one...

"Star Trek: First Contact" is exactly what any sci-fi blockbuster should be: loaded with special effects, laced with light humor, blessed with interesting characters, and packed with non-stop action! This is the very best of the "Star Trek" movies. The plot concerns the evil cybernetic race the Borg and their attempt to go back in time to invade Earth and the crew of the Enterprise-E rushing to save humanity. The visuals are amazing and the action is the best in the series. From the first space battle to the Borg invading the ship to the deflector dish battle to the final showdown, this movie has a fast pace as well as rich characters. Jonathan Frakes, who also plays Riker, is a talented director who directed some of the best episodes of "The Next Generation" TV series. He keeps this movie flowing and the action frequent. But most of all, this movie has heart and deep concern for its characters. That's what "Star Trek" is all about.

Best Holiday Romantic Comedy

I loved this movie. I think I really appreciate the fact that some of the women weren't little stick figures that are unrealistic. I also enjoyed that there were several love stories into one.Yes it was the typical love story but it all connected into a creative movie. I haven't seen this good of a romance comedy in a long time. I was very impressed with the taste of the whole movie. I really felt like I could relate. It also has an awesome soundtrack.

City Slickers - movie DVD cover picture
Engaging, funny and poignant

A sweet warm-hearted movie. Three middle-aged urbanites take their mid-life crises to the great outdoors. Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern and Bruno Kirby play the three thirtysomethings who take a cattle drive vacation. Jack Palance plays the tough-as- leather trail boss, Curly. The movie deftly mixes humor and drama. This is my favorite Billy Crystal performance. One of the nice things about this movie is how down-to-earth most of it is. Watching this, I could relate to the characters in that everyone has problems and everyone has insecurities and moments of depression and lack of direction. But moments pass and problems are dealt with. Not necessarily resolved but dealt witth Very clever, very funny, and very sweet. City Slickers strikes just the right note.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Frenchy?

With the phrase 'French action film' most people break-down laughing. I was one of them. The idea of 18th century Frenchmen taking on a 500 pound animal seemed about as realistic as Carrot-Top being an actual celebrity. But from the first few minutes of the film, you can't deny that, laughable or not, this is a gorgeous film. The country that practically invented the art film has produced some of the most stylish and visually-creative directors and producers, even if the scripts stink. But when the classic mysterious stranger arrives and rescues the peasant girl and her father, there is no doubt that this is going to be an awesome film. The premise is that a 'wolf'-creature is attacking people in a small French province a couple of decades before the French Revolution. The King sends a naturalist from his court named Gregoir de Fransac, who is accompanied by an Iriquoix indian named Mani. Fransac is the brain, Mani is the brawn. As the investigation wears on Fransac meets Sardis, the local priest, Marianne, the beautiful daughter of a local count, Jean-Francois, her brother whose time in the Navy cost him his arm, and Sylvia, the mysterious Italian prostitute. The almost two and half hour movie, seems like a 'Blair Witch' for a while as everyone argues about the nature of the beast, hunts normal wolves, and tries to piece it all together. But the monster does eventually appear, and it is worth the wait. And the truth about the creature, and the movie's title, rush you in the last forty-five minutes, creating a brilliant climax. The visual magnitude of the film is completely unlike anything you see from the States. The scenes have a higher contrast than most movies from this side of the pond, and the director's use of slow-motion photography really makes the fight-scenes pop. The fight-scenes are frequent and unbearably cool. The first scene has Mani coming to the aide of a young woman and her father. Six-to-one, pouring rain, and we never see all of Mani's face. Mani is played by a Hawaiian Kung Fu master, FYI. Most of the fight-scenes revolve around Mani. From a group of hunters challenging the Iriquoix never-comer, to the impecably correographed fight with the creature. The deleted scenes feature has the director (speaking in French) talking about each scene that was cut and why. The first of these scenes is a longer version of the first fight which has Mani and Fransac tag-teaming. The film is a little long for an action film, but the story is well-plotted with plenty of twists, turns, brothel scenes, hand-to-hand combat, and unlike a number of French films I've seen, the heroines are actually really hot. There's the standard French weirdness in the nightmare scene, a little history on Iriquoix mysticism after the hunt, and the kind of love story that could only happen in France. Better fight scenes than 'The Matrix', better plot than 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', and less pretious than 'Blue', 'White', or 'Red'.
