Unforgettable

I have seen this movie once, in a cheap hotel on a business trip, late at night, over ten years ago. I remember it still. The movie covers the offence, treatment and rehabilitation of a paedophile. Be warned, it is not to everyone's taste. I discussed it with friends who were violently opposed to the subject. Me too, but the movie is still riveting - and unique (in my experience). It leaves the final question to answer yourself - can such an offender be cured?

A new milestone in anime

The characters' appearences didn't stop me from buying this movie. I just wanted to see a good movie. This is how Osamu Teuka's work looks. Too big of feet is stopping you? To big of girly eyes for all the characters, including the boy ones? Don't let anything on this movie stop you from buying it. And don't let the other reviews stop you. Every penny is worth it. This movie is based on the comis book{manga} Astro Boy by Osamu Tezuka's. To all of you who want to know what the word based means, I highly doubt this is supposed to be a different version of a movie for Astro Boy, but I honestly don't know. but what I do think this movie is based on for Astro Boy that's not a far-fetched answer is the fact that Osamu Tezuka made his characters from Astro Boy look similar to the characters appearences{big feet, big eyes]in this movie.I also think there will be a sequel to this because this was released just over a year ago, and Ithink Kenichi might become a detective. I wonder if he'll still look like a girl, though. But I can't believe I was afraid to buy this movie. It kinda looks like it has subtitles at the beggining, but i can assure little kids, it doesn't.But parents before this movie sells out{ I've noticed that a lot of things that I want to get is sold out} maybe you should buy it. Even you might like it also. Also, if you have a son/daughter or you think is too young to watch PG-13 movies you should buy for them or yourself and let them watch it when you feel they are old enough. Here is a summary of the movie:Duke Red creates a robot named Tima, and thanks to his son, Rock, he thinks Tima is destroyed. But she's really befriending the nephew of a japanese detective. Buy the movie to see the ending.

Cool Hand Luke - movie DVD cover picture
The anti-hero

One of the reasons that the late 60s/early 70s was such a powerful era in filmmaking is the emergence of the anti-hero (defined as an individual with heroic qualities, but not in a position we would usually find a hero). This is symbolized greatly in `Cool Hand Luke'. We can identify with Luke because his crime is venial and his concerns over the great questions of life are ours. It is because of this and his persuasive charm that the other prisoners (played remarkably well by Kennedy and a host of others to include Wayne Rogers, Ralph Waite, Dennis Hopper and one of the actors who played a crewmember on `Alien') live vicariously through him.

Filled with memorable scenes (the boxing match, 50 eggs, the fealty of his fellow prisoners who help him finish his food after his stomach is shrunk in solitary confinement, `shakin' it here boss', the sneezing dogs, and of course the carwash) and outstanding character development (created by what is said and what is not said, i.e. the visiting brother), one of screen history's most repeated lines and the great acting of Newman, this movie deserves to be called a classic. Released the same year as `Bonnie and Clyde', it makes one long for the days when you needed a real script to make a movie.

A story tale to Elvis fans...

Elvi's fan will love it! It is not real, David Keith is not the best "Elvis" around the world but he did a great performance with the songs in this movie. Also, almost two hours remembering the king. Need more?

Can you say PO'd?

Well, on a few posters advice I ran out to my local best buys to try and score a copy of LFN2, they had pulled the sets from the sales floor and wouldn't give one up to me. One store I visited said there had been several people looking for the set but WB had recalled it, they tried to tell me that they never even received it. Good god I never thought I would be wishing so hard for incompetent retail outlets that didn't read their emails! I bought a DVD player for this series, got season 1 and now I am still freaked out about this being recalled. The thing that pisses me off the most is that I initally ordered this thru the WB website and they not only were charging 79.99 where I heard it was only 69.99 here, but when they cancelled my order they directed me here for further assitance. Now why on earth would they do that?? Further aggravation when I sent their customer service rep an email I wasn't even engratiated with a response. Sorry but I work in the retail field and this is a piss poor way to treat your valued customers WB! Over all I am extremely disappointed in the way the non-release was handled. LFN was an excellent series, us fans should not have to beg borrow and steal to have it available to us to purchase on DVD. As it is the price is pretty hefty. I am seriously considering boycotting future WB items.

Young Sherlock Holmes - movie DVD cover picture
THE GAME'S AFOOT

Twenty years after its initial release, YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES remains a glowing and entertaining film, produced by Steven Spielberg and written by Chris Columbus. Lushly filmed, with state of the art special effects, YOUNG SHERLOCK posits how Holmes met up with Watson, why he remained a bachelor, and gives us some hints as to how the mature Holmes would end up. The cast is marvelous: Nicholas Rowe has a young Basil Rathbone face, and attacks his role with fervor; Alan Cox is stereotypical but fine as the young Watson; Sophie Ward is a lustrous Elizabeth; Anthony Higgins a dashing villain; the late Susan Fleetwood (Mick's sister) a sinister accomplice; and Freddie Jones excellent as always as one of the victims. Reminiscent of the Harry Potter series, it still maintains a charming originality and deserved to fare better.
