Unfaithful (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

I really did enjoy this film very much. The ending was yes a bit of a shocker, but the cast was well chosen for the parts they played. And so this was a "job" well done. The film grabs your interest from the very beginning right up until the very last moment.
Diane Lane (Connie) played such a wonderful role in this film as a typical house wife, who accidently runs into Martinez in SoHo on a windy day. They continue to see one another a time or two more and the enivitable begins, the affair. I think that this film is one that many, many women will be able to relate to. Beautiful Connie, slowly her life is unraveling and I think she is beginning to feel to very, every day ordinary comfortable life that she is just perhaps too comfortable with now?
When she meets Paul, (Martinez) things suddenly change for her and quickly. She feels perhaps youth, beautiful and passion again.
I was very surprised by this ending and would have never expected it. This movie will leave you always wondering "what will really happen to this family torn apart by more than just an affair now".
If you loved Martinez's performance in this film, you must see him in the remake of "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone". Co-staring English Actress "Helen Mirren". That too was just perfection on Martinez's part.

Magical storytelling...

Descendant of the whale rider and first born of the new generation, Pai's grandfather is far from loving when he learns that her twin brother, destined to become chief and to lead their people in order to keep tradition alive, died along with her mother. Although he's eventually come to care for her, he's always been somewhat distant and indifferent to her special capabilities, so time and time again she tries to win his affections - to make him proud of her - but she was not the son her grandfather was expecting and a part of him loathed her very existence because of that. However, despite his anger directed toward her constant defiance as she starts bending the rules, she also stuns the people of the small village she lives in as she practices and excels in the ways of the ancient custom.

I haven't read the novel by Witi Ihimaera in which this movie is based on yet so I can't compare the two but whether they stuck to the book or not, "Whale Rider" is a sensational cinema experience all should see. Even if this isn't your thing, anyone with any sense at all will surely recognize this as a true work of art... A masterpiece, if you will. The acting is superb with riveting performances from the entire cast (most notably young novice Keisha Castle-Hughes who, IMO, should have won the Oscar for best actress!) in this compelling drama that overflows with boundless spirit...unlike many films these days that rather rely on big effects and hideous amounts of violence, or plenty of action to draw viewers in. From the beautiful cinematography of New Zealand to the Maori chanting and haunting soundscapes provided by Lisa Gerrard to further enhance the ambiance successfully brought to life here, "Whale Rider" is a gripping tear-jerker full of heart, and it will stay with you long after watching.

Two Different Films

Having first watched the R rated version, I was not sure whether I fully understood some of the character's motives thruout the movie (and therefore was not sure if I even enjoyed the film). After reading the Amazon reviews and seeing that there exists an unrated version, I then watched this version and everything I questioned became clear and the film's ending had more impact. Watch the unrated film.

Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

I took my 4 year old, and four 7 year olds to see this movie, and it made an impact on all of us. This movie is original. It is not Disney-ish and while I've appreciation for Disney, this movie did not have the "cutesy" factor of a Disney movie. Spirit captured my children's hearts and imaginations. This movie took the children through a full spectrum of emotions. They were elated at Spirit's courage, angry about his treatment, sad when he was sad and Rain was injured, and again thrilled when he was finally free! Isn't this what movies are entertain our emotions? This movie beautifully depicted strength and courage. The animation was phenomenal and the music...Bryan Adams, what more can I say!!! My four year old was deeply impacted by this movie. She says it changed her life. When she went to get shots, she told me, "I will not cry, I will be brave like Spirit" and she didn't shed a tear! I highly recommend this beautiful and unique movie to anyone who wants to see or have their children see a movie that covers a full spectrum of emotions and leaves you feeling uplifted!!

its a must have!

well, i want to start with this: i AM hungarian, saw the movie several times, but i cant seem to bored with it.... Dont anyone beleive that editorial review, its really stupid. "Macskafog?" is a movie i enjoyed as a kid and enjoy as an adult too. I didnt see the english version but i beleive its not that good... there are lots of games with words in the original, like the password at the mouse hq, or almost every characters name... the names are playing with words in hungarian, english, and german, but you must know hungarian to understand those.... like the evil cat "Teufel", witch means 'devil' in german, but sounds almost like "sour cream" in hungarian... and everyone knows, cats like sour cream ;)Anyway, its a really good movie.

Dawn Davenport ROCKS!

Although "Pink Flamingos" gets more attention, "Female Trouble" is my favorite John Water's movie starring Divine. "Dawn Davenport" has got to me my favorite character ever played by Divine. The scene where she has a fit over not getting new cha-cha heels for Christmas, priceless! She goes from spoiled juvenile-delinquent brat, to "supermodel", to convicted murderer on death row. Divine even plays the roll of the father of Dawn's illegitimate daughter, Taffy. I love Divine's performance. It's great to finally get this on dvd, along with "Pink Flamingos", a John Waters classic!

A dream come true for Lansdale fans

As a long time Joe Lansdale fan, I could barely contain my excitement when I heard of this project. While not my absolute favourite of horror writers, Lansdale, along with Bentley Little, easily tops my list for most funny and outrageous. If you like dark humour and have never explored such Lansdale classics as "The Drive-In", "Dead in the West" and his Hap&Leonard series, then you're definitely missing out on something good. Bubba Ho-Tep was a 50-page novella that first appeared in the now hard to find collection "Writer of the purple rage". Bubba Ho-Tep as a story held instant appeal to me and I felt was easily the best in the entire collection but never in my wildest dreams would I ever have thought a film adaptation of this story would have been possible. Then again the man helming the project is none other than long-time genre director Don Coscarelli, a man who penned the classic "Phantasm" at the tender age of twenty-five.
The story is set in a rest home in Mud Creek Texas, where Elvis Presley (played by Bruce Campbell) has been lying in a bed for quite some time. Of course nobody in the rest home actually believes him when he says he's really Elvis (but turns out he is). Apparently, Elvis had gotten bored of fame quickly and traded identities and signed off most of his fortune to a certain Sebastien Haff. The real Elvis thus got to enjoy relative anonymity and worked as an Elvis impersonator on the side to make some money. During one of his impersonations Elvis fell off stage and broke his hip, thus landing him in this rest home. Elvis has been bored silly the last few years until now, where a mission awaits him and his friend, who believes he's a black JFK; rid the rest home of the Egyptian mummy that has been sucking the souls of the elderly in the rest home. Elvis and black JFK study the mummy and plan their attack, which results in a climactic battle sequence between two geriatrics and an Egyptian mummy.
The single best thing to be appreciated about this film is the absolute faithfulness to the source material. I mean, absolutely everything from Joe's original vision is intact here, even the precise words of the first page, one of the most vulgar opening paragraphs in literary history. There could never be another Joe Lansdale, he is absolutely unique, but Coscarelli somehow manages to capture the spirit of his offbeat sense of humour to a tee. Basically nothing from the story is left out, and what is added, such as the Elvis flashbacks, only helps accentuate an already airtight story. But what makes this adaptation so good is without a doubt the sublime performance of Bruce Campbell in the title role. I have been a Campbell fan all my life but have never thought of him as a good actor...until now. His performance dominates the film, everything is bang on like the accent, the subtle movements, the strut, just everything. What's most unique about this story to me above all is the idea of geriatric senior citizens (with a few screws loose) thrust into the roles of heroes. Our society often seems to forget about seniors, and Hollywood to my knowledge has rarely introduced old people as action heroes, and the concept is done very well here. How could one not laugh at a battle between an old Elvis and a flying cockroach? Or the idea of JFK and Elvis, one with the aid of a stroller, the other with a wheelchair, slowly crawling towards battle with war-cry music in the background?
The disc is loaded with amazing features such as audio commentary by Campbell and Coscarelli, and a separate audio commentary by the King himself, making wisecrack comments about himself all the while munching on a bag of popcorn. There's also an option where you can be read the story by Lansdale, a section about the making of the amazing music score by Brian Tyler and last but not least "The making of Bubba Ho-Tep", which includes fascinating insights by Lansdale, Coscarelli and especially Bruce Campbell who proves that he is no less funny in person than he is on screen. The sheer greatness of this adaptation makes me salivate at the thought of another Lansdale adaptation. I read in an interview with Don Coscarelli that after the positive reaction of this film, him and Lansdale are now planning to adapt Joe's classic zombie-western novella "Dead in the West". Now that one oughta be something!!

I'm A Drunk But This Hot Hooker Wants Me!!! (For Free TOO!!)

This would have to be one of the most overrated and overhyped movies ever produced. It concerns a drunken loser by the name of Ben, played by Nicholas Cage who is set on drinking himself to death in Las Vegas. Instead ofbeing totally absorbed in his quest to find his next drink (just like any normal drunk) he finds time to develop a relationship with Sera, a prostitute. I have read that prostitutes HATE DRUNKS for various reasons which I won't go into in this review but this movie does call for an immense "Suspension Of Disbelief " on the part of the viewer like the scene in which Ben wakes up smiling after a hard night of drinking. Somebody should tell the makers of this turkey of a movie that no drunk ever wakes up smiling (and happy , no less!!!) after a drinking binge.I give this movie 5 stars because I kind of like Elisabeth Shue. What I really want to know is that how come every streetwalker portrayed by Hollywood is always good looking whereas in reality they are all Heroin addicts with Hepatitis B which has eroded any good looks they may once have had? Please advise. My Email address is available for all to see!!!

Fantastic In Every Way

1. The story is unique, exciting, and well-constructed. You don't know whether Jerry Fletcher (Gibson) is really a kook, psycho, or all of the above until the very end. It is an inspired moment when we finally find out. True 'suprise endings' are rarely well-done in Hollywood, (not since THE STING), and this one rocks. 2. Mel Gibson's acting amazes me again. I was never a Gibson fan until TEQUILA SUNRISE, when Mel dropped his Aussie accent and impressed many. Then, BRAVEHEART, became my all-time fav (what a great story of courage, etc.) 3. The unlikely romance between Jerry and Alice is breathtaking. That a total loser like Jerry can overcome himself and win the heart of this woman inspires us all. You will cry at the end. 4. Finally, the production and SFX will impress even the most jaded moviegoer. It is peculiar how fast we became bored with gigantic SFX and CGI technology, but these action sequences are really well done with a flair that relies on ingenuity rather than just throwing money at the audience.

The 2nd best Halloween

This could have been even better if they would go back to the orginals and didn't do the "SCream" Approach to h20. Like every other Teen Horror films they have the Opening Kill then go limp until the last 45 minutes. I gave H20 5* because of the acting jobs of Jamie Lee Curtis Aka Laurie Strode{Mrs. Tate} and Michelle Williams Who in her young carrer is one of the best actresses in the flied. Not scary but a lot of hummor makes up for this rather comendy more then a horror film
