Underworld Rocks

This is definately one of the best actiton movies to come out in a LONG time. The special effects are amazing, and the acting is great. The little details are so perfect, and the story is Awesome. You actually get background for the characters in this movie, not all of it, but enough to tantalize you and make the second installment a must see! This is not your typical vampire/werewolf movie, it totally raises the bar. To give you a quick rundown of the story line, vampires and werewolves have been fighting for centuries. Only now, they use modern day equipment and modern weapons, like guns to fight eachother. One werewolf decides that he wants to create a sort of hybrid half vampire half werewolf, but stronger than both. I won't say any more, but sufice to say, it is an action packed thriller of a movie, with an ending that leaves you begging for the next movie to get here! I have watched this movie a dozen times over, and I am still not tired of it. Every time I watch it, I pick up something new, something that I did not see before, or a connection that I did not make. Anyway, this movie rocks, and you should check it out!

Pee Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special - movie DVD cover picture
Just Great

This special combines holiday spirit with comedy perfectly. Pee-wee is a delight, as always. The guest stars all perform well, the highlight for me being Charo, whose performance possessed a special warmth. The moral of not being selfish is an admirable and all-too-rare one in this day and age, and I applaud Mr. Reubens for his entertaining yet educational material. Most amazing of all for me was that it was never boring--like all Playhouse episodes, it keeps one's interest with a good pace and variety. It may be the only Christmas special I've ever seen to do that.

A must! The Golden Age of Erotica dosen't get any better.

This is one of my favorite films; but, its not for the light hearted nor for those who take art literally.
The story is set in a fantasy world full of luxury, extravagance and beauty; where most of the women are the submissives and live to obey their male/female masters. It's the ultimate BDSM film. I totaly recommend it; but, be warned, it's a French film made in 1975! It's one of the masterpieces of the Golden Age of Erotica. Don't expect Hollywood! This DVD edition has a multiple language feature (English, Spanish and the original French) but no subtitles, and a 20 minute comentary (in French) by the director.

Maria Full of Grace - movie DVD cover picture
Brutally Realistic, But Not Without Hope

This story of a young Columbian woman who agrees to become a mule to transport heroin into the U.S. is realistic, very linear and very affecting. Maria is a poor, independent-minded woman who has quit her job in the sweat-house flower growing industry and has learned she's pregnant. She agrees to become a mule, swallowing large capsules of compressed heroin and attempting to get past U.S. inspectors after a flight to New York. She's picked up by paid thugs who take her to a cheap safe house to wait until the capsules pass through her body. The whole process is shown realistically. The dangers are real, from capture by the authorities to death if one of the capsules ruptures inside the body. This happens to one of the women on the same flight with her, and the movie plays out the consequences to Maria. As demeaning and brutal as the process is shown to be, the movie ends on some small notes of hope.

The acting is first rate. The actress who plays Maria had never acted before and does an outstanding job. The character she plays can be stubborn, not always honest, brave when she needs to be. This is an excellent movie well worth seeing.

Eddie Lives !!

Hey this is what a rock-n-roll movie should be about....the music. Eddie and the Cruisers is a great movie. After watching the movie for the first time I felt like it was more of the history of Eddie and the Cruisers and he really was out there somewhere. Sometimes critics just don't have a clue, there are other factors besides acting, not to say that the acting is not good, but this movie has heart and lots of it. I was glad to see that it was being released on dvd. This movie is excellent and the music is great. Check it out !retro

Great learning tool-

My 14 month old absolutly loves most of the baby enstein videos, but this one is by far her favorite. It moves fast enough through the scenes to keep her attention, has lots of kids, her favorite part, and great upbeat music she can dance to. Granted, it does only count to 5, i would have thought they would have gone to 10, but they do it in interesting ways, showing items and toys from every day. The video appears clearer than the previous movies as does the sound. all in all i highly recommend.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - movie DVD cover picture
A Breathtaking Masterpiece

To try and describe Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon would be a hard thing to do. I can say, however, that this movie has it all. Spectacular stunts and beautiful coreography that rivals the Matrix (although these two films had some of the same people working for them). But what makes this film great is the directing and the story it tells. Ang Lee is a legend for telling a true story. His movies the Ice Storm and Sense and Sensibility were magnificent. In my opinon, this is his best. Another important item is the actors you get. Lee chose stars like Chow Yun-Fat (Replacement Killers) and Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies), both wonderful action stars. People will like this movie. Whether you are an action fan, a drama fan, or just like a good movie. Check this out, you won't be dissapointed.

The Awful Truth - The Complete DVD Set (Seasons 1 & 2) - movie DVD cover picture
You don't know Michael Moore until you see this series

I recently purchased this set because I had never seen the show in my area. Unlike many of Moore's more recent work, "The Awful Truth" is less partisian and more eloquently zeroes in on the issues that form the nucleus of Moore's agenda, which is about people and not parties. In fact, this series, most of which was produced while Clinton was in the White House, often targets the democrats and issues surrounding Clinton or the government's policy. Unlike his opponents, Michael Moore is not blindly allied to any political party as evidenced in this series.

That's not to say Moore doesn't have an agenda, or doesn't tackle controversial issues. He most certainly does. And he demonstrates how intelligent and creative he is in touching upon very sensitive issues, making people think, via humor.

The first episode of "The Awful Truth" is a great example. It consists of two segments. In the first one, Michael addresses the overblown Starr investigation against Clinton (which cost taxpayers $50+ million) and proposes that if the Republicans want a "witch hunt", he can do it cheaper and more efficiently, and that's exactly what he does. Hilarity ensues as Moore assembles a group of Salem-era "pilgrims" in period costume to parade across capital hill passing judgement on the plethora of hypocritical adulterous politicians. Do not drink any liquids while viewing this segment or they'll end up all over your living room -- you've been warned.

The second segment is even more powerful, and it's required watching for anyone who is prejudiced against Michael Moore. I showed this clip to a friend who "hates" Moore and at the end she was crying. Her opinion of the man will forever be changed. That's how powerful the segment is, where Michael Moore follows a young man who's HMO refused to pay for an operation he needs to save his life, and Michael and his people descend upon the corporate offices vowing to not give up until this young man gets the pancreas transplant he desperately needs. In the end, Michael wins, the young man's life is saved, and the HMO reverses their policy on this issue. It's clear evidence that Michael Moore has actually saved at least one man's life, and who knows how many others through his lobbying for humane healthcare policies. I challenge anyone to watch this segment and content that Michael Moore isn't one of the true people left who is really looking out for the common man. NOBODY who can malign the man could possibly have viewed this segment.

That's just the first two spots on this extensive DVD collection. And that's just the beginning... get this series and get it for all your friends - you won't be sorry.

Stuart Little (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Let your imagination go with this film...

This movie does its job. It entertains the 4-10 year old viewer. My children enjoyed watching this movie; however, I don't foresee it becoming one of their favorites. The story line drags too much and the characters are too bland. The talking animals lack the wit of other movie and TV animals, notably the animals in Homeward Bound and the cat, Salem, in the TGIF Sabrina TV series. My youngest says that the outtakes are the best part of the Stuart Little DVD.
Because my children had read the novel by E.B. White, they were disappointed by the changes in the story. In sum, this movie comes up OK. Oh, one special note---the special effects are great. Watch Stuart Little on a rainy Saturday afternoon when you have nothing better to do.
