Understanding The Last Of The Samurai

It's unfortunate that some people dont see the true beauty of this film, like me if you are a anime fan you should see it. The last samurai is great from beginning to end the fight scenes were great and the story and plot was so perfect it's almost unbelievable. Even though the story is fake the families involved and the events that make this story come to life are all historic facts. These men died in battle and even know they died they died to get their point across and to be heard when they needed to be heard the most. It was a fight that couldn't be won but to these men it was either fight and die proud or run and you would be forced to kill yourself and die a coward, they died and the rest of their family lived to fight another day.Tom cruse did a great job in this movie but the awards should go to Ken watanabe or Katsumoto and the other men/samurai who made this movie great. To end this some peolple need to be told that before watching this movie dont mistake it for a fraud because some people expect Tom cruse to be the last samurai and seeing that he is not of japanese descent that might bother some people and it's nothing like that because I judged this movie before seeing it and I was dead wrong and suprised at what saw and loved this movie.

Defending the 90s

This is, without a doubt, the best movie I have ever seen. I have been waiting months for the DVD to be released. It's like the Professional, if you ever see a portion while channel surfing, you're compelled to watch the remainder--regardless of the time of night or state of mind.

Everyone is watching you.

The Truman Show came out in a bad year. Because it was a year of many great films. Which kept it from getting a best picture nomination. Titanic won that year and I dislike that film. But films like Good Will Hunting and LA Confidential are both great. I still think the Truman show should have been nominated but oh well. Now on to the film. This movie is the scariest PG rated movie ever made. It really makes you wonder if your just someone elses entertainment. Ed Harris gives a great role playing in a way Trumans "God". The movie tells that it is better to be in the real world where there is pain and suffering than to be in heaven and have it fake. That's a concept that rises above most of the crap I've ever seen.

I liked it very much especially the CASH FROM CHAOS

A great video. A clasic one to watch! The story was brilliant, they get the pistols better than ever seen before, all the bad and good. They go nicely into Sids life and the music videos are great too!

What can I say?

First off, let me say that there ARE subtitles available in the edition I purchased, in contrast to the reviewer from Denmark. They're in the form of closed-captioning which is easily turned on via most modern television sets.
If you have the slightest interest in Rowan Atkinson or the Blackadder series, purchase this dvd set immediately. It's worth purchasing a dvd player just to view this set. Pure genius. I've had my cable turned off, and do nothing but watch these dvds over and over again.
The amazing thing is, I keep forgetting to watch the extras! After watching the series through about four or five times, I started grousing that the Christmas Carol special was not on the dvd. Lo and behold, I soon discover that it IS on one of the discs, as one of the extras. Soon I'm chortling along to the Scroogelike antics of Blackadder. Now I jsut need to figure out what disc the Cavalier Years is on.
The extras are all great. Very helpful to have the historical bits on here, explaining things like the origin of Wellingtons and other jokes that we Americans may be too slow-witted to pick up on. Nice mini-documentary of how the final special was made.
Buy it now. Watch it over and over. Then go buy The Young Ones dvd set and the Bertie and Wooster dvd set, and you will never have to watch modern television again. Hurrah!

This movie scores in as one of the best

Phantom Menace is truly one of the greatest movies ever made and combined with this great package its amazing. You can NOT buy the pan and scan version of The Phantom Menace and have the true experience. By the way I believe Jar Jar is a great character and most have not realized how great a character George Lucas invisioned, he really adds to the quality of the film.

Bliss for comedy fans but still funny for the casual viewer

This set contains a few of the classic skits but my guess is that the funny stuff was done earlier in Canada. There is no Dr Tongue or Scmhenges (SP) Polka show. If you're looking for some of the earlier "no sell out" stuff you won't find it here. NBC crushed them.wwhat we need is "the Last Polka" on DVD
buyer beware

Bitter sweet describes this trip back to childhood

No doubt hidden in the 271 reviews that precedes my own you will find many of my ideas and thoughts about this movie. No matter, I still feel obligated to share what this movie meant and continues to mean to me. To begin, credit must be given to the composer and artist of this film. While, although sometimes a bit cheesy (ie. that same choo-choo-train sewer music playing whenever unicron appeares, which is borrowed from from ROCKY IV), the music does energize the film at times and makes for a great soundrack. Next, despite what some others have said, the animation for this film was great for its time. I mean, who could ever forget that scene when Optimus decides, "Megatron must be stopped--no matter what the cost," and leaps into action blasting away. That's the stuff great memories are made of. Conversely, however, the plot of this movie made perfect sense when I was ten years old, but now seems a bit weak. But what can you expect? After all, it IS--or WAS--a childrens cartoon. More than anything I think this film represents the end of an era. While kids still have vivid imaginations and continue to love cartoons, I wonder if they will obsess over them (running home from school to make sure you didn't miss a minute) like we did. In these days of powerfull computers, DVDs, and Wallmart(hehe), I don't know if things will ever be the same. Bottom line, I love this movie not only for what it is( a childrens cartoon), but for what we made it( a legend that defines a generation). Autobots, transform and roll out.

my prophet & saviour

whether your favorite album is "legend" or "catch a fire", this is the bob documentary for you. hardcore fans won't learn much, but whether you want to see more of those BBC tapes with peter & bunny, or if you want to hear rita's attitude about bob's girlfriends, you will be entertained. as well as educated. as michael franti says, "it's hard to be delicious, and also be nutritious", but robert nesta marley pulls it off without even thinking about it. he just is. much respect out to the marley family for keeping the love alive. this is the officially sanctioned doc from the marley estate, so stop wondering, and just buy it. p.s. anyone know where i can get a hold of those old BBC tapes?

Keith Jarrett Trio - Live at Open Theater East - movie DVD cover picture
Outstanding piano and vocals!

I am still in awe of what I just witnessed on this DVD. Here is an extremely talented jazz pianist playing his butt off [he rises from the stool regularly] :) ..only to poison his performance and talent with awful grunts, yelps, and moanings that in no way add any value whatsoever. It just baffles me that Keith developed this horrible habit alongside fantastic piano chops! Did he think he needed some sort of gimmick to be noticed? You'd think someone somewhere along the way would have coached him..."Hey Keith, you gotta drop that whining during your tunes...you'll lose a lot of fans if you keep that up!" I even wonder how the other fine musicians on this DVD feel about being associated with him. They play like they don't even notice it, but I'll bet they hate it like I do. Despite the great sound and efforts by the trio don't buy this DVD if you expect the typical jazz experience you find on other DVDs.
