Underrated Carpenter classic

After scoring a monumental hit with the original Halloween, John Carpenter re-teamed with Debra Hill and star Jamie Lee Curtis to bring us this criminally underrated little gem. Just as he did with Halloween, Carpenter creates a gloomy, creepy atmosphere and an overwhelming sense of dread without throwing buckets of blood and guts all over the walls, and he manages to coax great performances from the cast including Janet Leigh, Hal Holbrook, and John Houseman, along with Carpenter vets Tom Atkins and the babe-ilicious Adrienne Barbeau. The film's overly creepy atmosphere and eerie beginning sets the film apart from many others of the genre at the time, and in the end The Fog is one of Carpenter's best films, right up there with Halloween and The Thing. The DVD is worth noting as well and is a bargain to boot; we get an older documentary from when the film was released, and a brand new documentary as well, plus an enlightening commentary from Carpenter and Hill. There are numerous film in-jokes as well: Atkins' character is named Nick Castle, who would co-write Escape From New York with Carpenter a year later, and another character is named Dan O'Bannon, named after the man who co-wrote the original Alien a year earlier and would later on direct horror cult classic Return of the Living Dead. Look for Carpenter himself in the beginning of the film as Holbrook's church handyman.

Bagel and cream cheese paperweights?

One of the funniest most twisted films ever made. This film is truley remarkable for it's intertwinings of absolutly everyone who comes onto the screen. Holds up even after after 20+ years

The Thing is such an amazing movie. The effects only serve the story, which is the true focus. The storyline doesn't move along just to set up another fx shot (Do you hear any of this Mr. Lucas?) A wonderful mystery shrouded in terror. And who knows, maybe somewhere out there thawing, waiting to be discovered lies humanities end...I wish Carpenter was able to make movies like this again.

themed releases are great

I love these themed releases of The Simpsons, for myself I purchased the seasons sets, for my daughter , the themed releases, this way we can swop and enjoy to our hearts content.
This collection is excellent, but then so would be any collection of The Simpsons, I only wish they would release a full collection of Treehouse of Horrors episodes, I would buy that twice, a copy for myself and one for my daughter.

Hollie Would if Hollie Could!

What makes this film brilliant is the attention to bizarre details and all of the activity going on in the background which is not part of the main story. Anyone who can compare this film unfavourably with Roger Rabbit should get their eyes and brains checked for tunnel vision.

Possibly the best motion picture adaptation of a broadway ..

If you purchase DVDs based on the quantity and quality of the extras, than be sure to buy this great DVD presentation of "Fiddler on the Roof."
I especially enjoyed DVD extra features, when available, and Norman Jewison's, "Fiddler" Director, commentary is priceless. Also Topol's comments are effectively edited into the accompanying Jewison's commentary, together they provide valuable insight into the making of "Fiddler on the Roof."
With the viewing of this DVD, especially the extra features, "Fiddler" has become one of my favorite musicals.

Only open minded people need apply!

This is the meter of openmindedness in moves. This movie messes with your mind on multiple levels and is honest as can be about the very things we americans fear and even more shutter at talking about, SEX SEX SEX! This movie is dramatic as a porn can get with one exception there is more to this porn than just sex and it has thought to it. Not just some movie where one person says hello then the other and 5 min latter you have a sex scene and a money shot. This movie is not for anyone under 18 I would never let a person under the adult age see this movie but if you want a movie in your collection that like Moulin Rouge is something completely different and unique than this is your movie.

State Property - movie DVD cover picture

This movie was basically a revamp of Scarface but instead of being a cuban coke lord, the main character is a ghetto wannabe big tymer. The acting is Sub par, The plot as i said is basicaly the same as Scraface's except with alot more ebonics and bad cinimatography. The Acting is terrible. But if you are watching this movie just to see Drugs, Thugs, and Hoe's ... it's perfectit depend's what your looking for, oh an by the way Jay Z's role in this movie is a Cameo at best, an his character had no personality

Say Anything... - movie DVD cover picture

The film is fabulous and the characters and dialogue are refreshingly real and honest. I like every single thing about this film. I like that Cory wrote 67 songs about Joe and she's going to sing every one of them at the party. I like how Lloyd does the 'nervous talking thing.' I like his brief digression with the guys at the Gas N Sip on a Saturday night. The moments in this film are timeless. This has to be one of the best films of the '80s even if it's not one of the most recognized.
