Great Scary Movies (The Terror / House On Haunted Hill / Night Of The Living Dead) - movie DVD cover picture
Unbelievable, three classics for less than $10

Actually, I got my copy at Best Buy for $5, but $10 is hardly excessive here. "Night of the Living Dead" by George Romero needs no introduction. It spawned an entire new genre of horror all by itself. Vincent Price in the original "House on Haunted Hill" is fantastic. While it may not have the CGI imagery of the remake (which is grossly overdone), it remains a genuinely creepy movie that unnerves me every time I watch it. Deciding for yourself what things in the house are the creation of Price's character and which aren't is one of the fun parts of the film. Also, never quite figured out if the housekeepers were ghosts. I lean towards yes!
A final note on the third movie, "The Terror". A *lovely* movie, which showcases an aged Boris Karloff as the "Baron" (he died a couple of years after this film) and a youthful Jack Nicholson as a young officer in Napoleon's army. Nicholson had not yet evolving into the intense, brooding figure we saw later in "The Shining", but it is still clear that his star was rising. He gives a respectable performance as a bewildered bystander to the mysterious events in the castle by the sea. I remember seeing this movie on TV as a child and being transfixed by the climax of the movie, especially the last scene in the graveyard when he finds out his new girlfriend quickly loses her charm when her face melts. Directed and produced by the legendary Roger Corman, this film is an overlooked gem of the genre. Highly recommended for any true fan of classic horror, especially since it only seems to appear in this DVD collection.
Overall, I must say this DVD is a steal, buy it!

Very, very funny

I love this movie. I am a huge fan of MST3K, and this movie is just like another episode except there is a bigger set and more expensive props. The film that Mike, Crow, and Tom watch is called "This Island Earth" which was made by the same company that produced this movie, Universal. It is a comically bad sci-fi flick that the boys enjoy tearing apart. I watched this movie over and over again and never stopped laughing. Enjoy!

Outstanding!

This movie is "empty", like the great majority of Spielberg's films. (the only exception being "SCHINDLER'S LIST) He is always sentimental, defending the so-called "american way of life". He's a false sentimental man. In this movie, the battle sequences are the best ever made. It showed naive people (because I think few people needed to see this movie to know that war is hell) how it was, using sheds of blood. But the plot... it's ridiculous, extremely patriotic (it had to have an American flag in the end...), but the actor really look like soldiers. In general, much better than his last "bomb", "LOST WORLD".

Journey 2001 - movie DVD cover picture
A great introduction to Journey!

This DVD is a great way to introduce someone to Journey, whether the person is a new fan or is trying to make the transition from Steve Perry's departure after Trial By Fire.
The DVD was taped for a Direct-TV special and it features the current Journey line-up of lead singer Steve Augeri, guitarist Neal Schon, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, bassist Ross Valory and drummer Deen Castronovo.
The DVD is a full concert featuring Journey's greatest hits, including songs such as "Open Arms," "Don't Stop Believin'," and "Any Way You Want It." It also includes new songs "Higher Place" and "All the Way."
Seeing Journey live is such a different experience than listening to a CD. I've seen the current lineup four times in concert, and this DVD captures the emotion and raw energy of the concerts! You may just find yourself blasting the music, dancing, and singing along!
Steve Perry fans: Some of you may be wary of Steve Augeri, but this DVD shows that he can do justice to Journey's hits while maintaining his own vocal style. Contrary to what some people say, he really isn't a dead ringer for Perry. This may turn you to a new era of Journey!
Overall, the sound quality is awesome and the video is great. This is a great substitute if you can't make it to a Journey concert!

A KNOCKOUT HIT!

Lets see a tale of media run amok all in the name of ratings and money. Sound like a "60 Minutes" piece? Well its not. It is incredibly articulate and scathing movie from 1976 which portends the coming age of media craziness in search of ratings. Paddy Chayevsky's screen play literally foretold the future of television and should be viewed in the same light as Kubricks prediction of the societal changes in his 60's movie "A Clockwork Orange". The acting by everyone in this movie is memorable. So much so that Beatrice Straight and Ned Beatty both garnered Oscar nominations although they appeared in but one scene. And lets not forget the other nominees from the movie - Faye Dunaway and William Holden. Top this off with the Oscar winning performance of Peter Finch as the insane (or is that messiah-like?) anchor man. Finch spouts one of the signature lines of the 70's when he whips up his audience with the cry of "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" The bottom line is that the powerful acting was fueled by an emotionally charged script that produced one of the best movies of the 70's. I highly recommend this movie not only for its entertainment value but because this movie was ahead of its time and has more relevance and meaning today then it did at the time of its release.

Can I Give This A 6 Stars

Many years past, Dr Zhivago is still on the top of my favorite movie list. I remember seeing this probably more than 4 times now - first time in cinema when I was young, then on video tapes, LD, and now on DVD. I cannot find any single thing to critize. The directing of David Lean, acting by Omar Sharif, Julie Christie, Rod Steider, the screenplay and cinematography are absolutely perfect. I also remember that I was actually amazed when I first watched the movie in the cinema as a young boy - how could such a masterpiece be produced ??
A must see all time classic. I probably will watch another two times on DVD this year.
I am giving an overall rating of A+, my highest in my rating scale.

TRULY NIGHTMARISH!

I wouldn't say that the movie 'The Exorcist' was scary. But, It does compile a sort of interest to you, and I would have to say that this movie was very good! I still say that the movie would have been even more better if they had added everything in the movie, that there was in the book. For example, at the beginning of the book, Regan and her mother get out and tour around the area. They should have added this part to apply the close relationship the two characters shared. And plus, it would have made the end of the movie even more better. And, the spiderwalk...I wondered what happened to that. But, this is still a great movie, and I recommend you read the book if you enjoyed the movie(vise-versa).
