The best Journey so far.

I'm in danger of wearing this DVD out it is played so much.
This is, by far, the best Journey have ever been. I have followed them for over 20 years and they have held this line up for 6 years. The energy and enthusiasm exudes from the stage you cannot fail to be drawn in. The quality of the recording reproduces an exceptional live atmosphere. Neal Schon is superb and acrobat on guitar, Ross Valory a solid and technical bass player, Jonathon Cain a master on keyboard, Deen Castonovo has electrified the band with his energy and sings too and finally Steve Augeri has complimented this band with warmth in his voice that can be felt from the back row. They are superb. It's a must have for any Rock fan's DVD collection.

A great achievemnt in film making

Seeing the film on the big screen in the Summer of 1998 I was surprised how magnificent this film is - much more moving than on video. Clark Gable's performance is perfect, and has not aged one bit. The part of Scarlet has aged some. This is not due to Vivien Leigh - her performance is also perfect. It is hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Scarlet. Some of Scarlet's dialogue is pretty creaky now. The production values in this movie are astonishing! The attention to detail in every scene is amazing. Film makers of today could really learn a lesson from GWTW. Hattie McDaniels "Mammy" is one of the best performances in the film. The characters of Mammy & Rhett are the ones that hold up the best today. If only Selznick had cast someone else as Ashley (Leslie Howard sleepwalks through the part) the film would be even greater than it already is.

Continuous play finally!

We just love the dragon tales cartoons. My three year old has learned so much about friendship from this series, and loves the music. The DVD itself is good. You can choose to play each episode once or play them all continuously. There is also and option to play the music segments which consist of four songs. Some of the songs are repeated from previous DVD's, but my daughter doesn't mind since they are so catchy.Better than some of the previous dvd formats, and they still do not include a song between the chapters which would have been nice.

River's Edge - movie DVD cover picture
Great Movie

I was a teen in the 80's right during when this movie takes place, and I lived in La Habra, California. Though there was no murder among the people I hung out with, I thought this movie did a fantastic job of getting a lot of important points and feelings across about the 80's. This move came out in 1986, and I saw it a few years later. And, it is still, if even more so, relevant today. River's Edge may not be the Dazed and Confused movie for the 80's or do what Dazed did or tried to do, but it is not trying to be. I think River's Edge got across the bleak, "just existing" hole that a lot of us were in at the time, and it hit home with a whole lot more that is hard to explain. I'm sure other people have very different experiences about the 80's. I was a Metaler back then, and still am one now (Up The IRONS!), and there is a certain something about this movie that brings back a flood of memories, both good and bad, things I wish I could have done differently back then and things that I'm glad I experienced. As for River's Edge, it's certainly worth experiencing if you grew up in the 80's with dysfunctional family, friends, school life, etc. It hits real close to home in some places, and it's also worth seeing if you weren't there but want to try to understand. The acting, the directing, and the story, are all very well done. It's a disturbing, thought provoking drama about a particular group and type of people in a particular time (the 80's), but it could easily take place any time and among anyone.

As the trivia at IMDB also points out: Although it is a work of fiction, the movie was inspired by the actual murder of Marcy Conrad, who was killed by her boyfriend Anthony Jacques Broussard in Milpitas, California in 1981. And, Neal Jimenez (the writer) based the characters on friends he went to school with in Sacramento, California. Also worth noting, the river scenes were filmed in Sacramento California, and the School scenes were filmed at Verdugo Hills High School - 10625 Plainview Avenue, Tujunga, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin - movie DVD cover picture
Stole my Heart

Captain Corelli's Mandolin, the movie, is based on historical facts. The Italian troops did invade the Greek Ionian Islands, which the Italy of Mussolini eyed: Corfu, Lefkada, Paxoi, Zakynthos, Ithaka, Cepahllonia, and Kythira--the Seven Islands as they are called, the jewels of the Ionian Sea. These islands have a long history of cultural mixtures, and they were occupied by the Venetians for meany centuries. The two cultures, Italian and Greek, are bound together by traditions and similarities--love of music, for instance. Directors and writers explore these similarities quite subtly and knowledgeably. When Captain Corelli arrives with his Italian contingent as an occupation force in Cephallonia, after the Greek army was overrun by the Germans in 1941, the local Greeks who could not stomach the fact that the very Italians they had defeated in Albania were now occupying their hometown greet him with jeers. But Corelli is not upset by the insult to his honor; he is not a fighting man. He understands the cultural ties with the people he is subjecting and behaves as a friend, bringing with him an infectious spirit of humanity and zest for life that equals that of the locals. A local doctor recognizes Corelli as a kindred spirit and invites him to live in his house, thus unwittingly encouraging a romance between him and his daughter Pelagia. Greeks and Italians sing together (and this did happen during the war), and dance at a local event, Pelagia dancing a western dance with an Italian officer. For a moment at least, culture seems to have won over war. However, though the movie is close to the facts, what happened during those years in those islands cannot be captured in one movie. The executions shown in the movie were everyday events, not all the Italians were so civilized, and there were no good Nazis. The war was a big mess--a big, ugly war that lasted over four years. The movie, despite its humanitarianism and romantic slogans, could not avoid the pitfalls of sentimentality, so known to moviemakers who take on tough subjects. Still, the movie has Cepahllonia, one of the jewels of the Ionian, an island that has seen a lot of strangers climbing up its rocks since the days of Odysseus. This is a good movie--for the mind and the heart are right--despite some shortcomings of history, shortcomings that manage not become an insult.

A landmark of extreme cinema.

I purchased "Thriller - A Cruel Picture" soon after its release, and I have to say, I enjoyed the film immensely. Everyone who says that this film is filled with gratuitous sex and violence is absolutely right. However, anyone who says that those aren't necessary in this picture are incorrect. While the filmakers went a little overboard with their adult content, it is essential to the plot that the viewer be made to sympathize with Madeline, antagonize her captor and perhaps even be able to justify the extreme lengths to which she goes to enact her revenge. All in all this cult revenge film delivers on its name.
