There is no way a man that big should be that energetic. Combine that with his phenominal facial expressions and love to make people laugh and you get one of the most rare and special comedians to have ever taken the stage.

A different kind of hero!

The Twilight Samurai, brings to the screen the story of Seibei Iguchi, a low ranking samurai and a widower, who is facing mounting problems, including taking care of himself, his two young daughters and his senile mother on a rather low salary, while seriously in debt. Things get more complicated as he gets entangled in the shady factional politics of 19th Century Japan...
The film combines romance, drama, action and adventure making it one of the best of its kind!
Moreover, the fascinating culture and traditions of the "Land of the Rising Sun," are presented very well in the film.
The plot is excellent and opens a window into the mysterious Orient.
Furthermore, shot on location it provides for some amazing scenery.
Needless to say, Hiroyuki Sanada, and the rest of the cast have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least! All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100%! Their great talent and chemistry clearly shows, thus providing an entertaining film that can be watched over and over again.
The setting, the dialogues, the music and the costumes are all wonderful!
Very well written and very well presented, it is a movie definitely worth owning, yet alone watching, especially for those with a soft spot for History, and especially for Eastern/Oriental enthusiasts.
Strongly recommended along with Shogun the TV series, starring Richard Chamberlain, to those with a soft spot for all things Japanese.

Caddyshack- The best movie ever made.

Caddyshack must be the funniest film of all time! It is so hilarious with Chase, Dangerfield, Knight and Murray at their best! One of my favorite parts is when Murray is talking about killing Chuck E. Rodent, the infamous gopher. Very funny, a must-have for all movie fans. Any comedy-film lover isn't a comedy-film lover until he has seen this film! Buy it now!

One long hallucination...

I picked this film up having loved the director's prior film Pi. I had no idea what the film was about. I think that was why it had such an impact. Cinematically, it is brilliant. The camera angles, the way the film is edited, the movement of the camera in lucid dreaming fashion. The effects of the filming draws the viewer into the hallucinatory haze of the actors. Absolutely amazing.
As for the story, it is one, long graphic portrayal of the descent into addiction. Viewer beware: it pulls no punches. It shows the worst that can happen (especially Jennifer Connelly's character -- horrifyingly brilliant) when your addiction rules your life. Ellen Burstyn is simply stunning in her role and reveals another facet of drug addiction we often overlook in our chemically laden society.
The movie does not preach nor does it present a Pollyanna solution to affects of addiction. It merely lays out the stories with a gritty realism that left me stunned and disturbed, quite literally, for days. I can't say this is a bad thing but the movie affected me as few movies ever have.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - movie DVD cover picture
An Excellent Adventure!

First, start with picture-perfect San Dimas, California, in the late 1980's. Next, add a couple of spacey yet lovable dudes and a time-traveling phone booth, and you have one of the greatest and funniest high school flicks of all time. "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure", starring Alex Winters, an early Keanu Reeves, and George Carlin, follows the story of bodacious Bill and Ted, who dream of music stardom through their rock band, Wyld Stallyons. Life is sweet, until they are faced with flunking their history class, thus losing each other (plus the Wyld Stallyons) forever. All hope is presumed lost, until the boys recieve a message of help from the future: in the form of a rusty phonebooth and Rufus (Carlin), both who offer them the chance of a lifetime: travel through history to encounter prominent figures, such as Napoleon, Joan of Arc, and Socrates, and bring them back to present day San Dimas to help them pass their report. With less than a day, Bill and Ted set off through time, with hilarious results, encountering famous presidents, world leaders, and yes, "royal ugly dudes". Performance wise, each character brings a different quality into the mix. Winters, with his priceless facial expressions, and overall charisma, and a be-speckled Carlin with a mysterious, wise approach add a great deal to the film. However, my favorite in this flick is Keanu Reeves. With perfectly shredded clothing and limited brain capacity, his reactions, character overall (that gorgeously tousled hair!) and great one liners ("Bill...strange things are afoot at the Circle K..."), he makes this movie the instant classic it has become. Hey, Bill and Ted, Party on, dudes! *air guitar*

One of the Best Bond Films EVER!

Moore finally found his way to play Bond, and made the character his own, not having to compare to Connery now. Louis Jourdan makes a great villain, and Maud Adams isn't that bad as the Bond woman. A lot of fun.

"Heat" is One of the Best Films Ever!

When I first saw this film I was around 16 and wasn't that impressed mainly because I thought it was kind of boring. Now that I have matured I thought I would give it another try and I dusted off my DVD from my shelf and watched it for a second time tonight (four years later). I was blown away by the acting, screenplay, action, music, emotion, and the fact I felt bad for the "bad" guys. This film has it all and after this viewing it has moved up the ranks to my top 25 list of all time. Pacino and De Niro are magnificint to say the least. I can't believe this film didn't get a single Oscar. It should have been up at the very least for Best Picture and Director. This is one great film that took me too long to realize what I had been missing.

I am a 'professional' female in my 30's, and remember and love breakdancing. I am soooo glad I bought this DVD which I plan on giving to my son for his birthday. But now the DVD will be OURS! What's great about it is that it shows the old 70's/early 80's b-boying stars & clips and then talks to the same people all grown up in their 30's/40's today. You WILL watch this over and over! Great history and roots of this NYC, then West Coast phenomenon...If only today's Hip Hop & Rap were as fun and clean as breakdancing was...
