Straw Dogs - movie DVD cover picture

This i sa great film. I just wonder why it didnt get the recognition or popularity it deserved. I'm a huge fan of mob movies, and films like clockwork orange and taxi driver. If you like films like these, you will love straw dogs, trust me. Dustin Hoffman in this film could hold his own with Al and Robert anyday. The picture on this dvd is great, alot better than some transfers of other older films, but the surround sound is lacking but its such a great movie it doesnt matter. good character depth, great story, a must have in my opinion.

Dick - movie DVD cover picture
The True Story of Watergate?

Dick is a tremendously funny movie that spoofs the gravity of the Watergate situation. It combines fictional characters with the real people who were involved. Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams play two dim-witted 15 year olds, Betsy & Arlene, who unwittingly stumble across G. Gordon Liddy and the Watergate break-in (Arlene lives at the Watergate) after sneaking out to mail a letter to Bobby Sherman. On a class trip to the White House, they again see Liddy and pick up the infamous CREEP list. Through a series of hysterical coincidences, they meet Richard Nixon, become official dog walkers and secret youth advisors, give Nixon cookies laced with marijuana, find the secret tapes, contact Woodward & Bernstein, are revealed to be the actual Deep Throat and provide the key information that takes down Nixon. The movie has a great soundtrack of 70's songs and is filled with authentic clothing and props. The cast is first-rate with Ms. Dunst & Ms. Williams perfectly playing the ditsy girls. They have fun with the roles, acting silly and impetuous as real teenagers would. Dan Heyda plays Nixon with the perfect amount of heaviness and Will Ferrell & Bruce McCullough are an absolute scream as the bickering Woodward & Bernstein. The cast is full of funny people including Dave Foley, Teri Garr, Jim Bruer & Harry Shearer. Dick is a well written, clever, funny and completely entertaining film.

Bubble Boy - movie DVD cover picture
Dead-On Campy

OK, one thing is for sure. If Jake Gyllenhaal had not been able to carry this movie, it would have been the worst piece of cinema ever created. But he plays the role of Jimmy, Boy in the Bubble with such wide-eyed childish, ecstatic fervor that just his facial expressions are occasionally hysterical (especially in an early scene where he attempts to pay for a bus ticket). You will either find him wildly endearing, or about as annoying as Stewart Smalley. So, this will NOT be a film suited to everyone's tastes.
Jimmy busts out of his plastic room into a plastic bubble to make a cross-country trip from CA to NY to stop the marriage of a girl he's in love with. Basic story, heard it all before. What's funny about it is the bevy of characters he meets along the way, all of whom are willing to help him, but Jimmy manages to insult them with his naivete, lack of manners and social grace. However, they all somehow become enraptured with him and end up trailing him and trying to fight each other off to his Niagara Falls destination.
The movie is made apparently in association with Disney, though it does seem to play more like an intentionally campy film intended for individuals a little older than the Disney crowd. I, for one, thought the movie looked idiotic and the title doesn't suggest a whole lot of entertainment, just a load of crap... but it really is an interesting piece of work that has the energy of a salsa dancer on speed built right in. Plus, how can you resist Jake Gyllenhaal? He's so damn cute. Plus, look for outrageous turns by Verne Troyer, Swoosie Kurtz and Fabio.

Olivia de Havilland. What more do you need?

What a great Western! Would make a great double feature with THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE or even NORTH TO ALASKA.

The story is pretty much straight forward: a guy reluctantly takes the job of sheriff in a lawless town and he cleans the joint up, but what made the movie so enjoyable for me was the incredible cast: Errol Flynn, Alan Hale, Bruce Cabot, Ann Sheridan, Henry Travers, Frank McHugh, Victor Jory, Charles Halton and the most beautiful woman in Hollywood: Olivia de Havilland.

My one and only complaint besides the size of Flynn's hat is Ann Sheridan was severely underused. Also her hair color should have been lighter.

I've read (United Press, March 22 1939) that as a promotion for the film there was a contest in the actual Dodge City, Kansas and the winner got to have Errol Flynn stay over for the weekend!

Abbie Irving - Olivia de Havilland (GONE WITH THE WIND, LADY IN A CAGE)
Jeff Surrett - Bruce Cabot (KING KONG, FURY)
Dr. Irving - Henry Travers (IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, HIGH SIERRA)
Surrett's lawyer - Charles Halton (THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE)

Michael Curtz and Errol Flynn made an astonishing 12 films together: CAPTAIN BLOOD (1935), CASE OF THE CURIOUS BRIDE (1935), THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE (1936), THE PERFECT SPECIMEN (1937), FOUR'S A CROWD (1938), THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938), DODGE CITY (1939), THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH AND ESSEX (1939), SANTA FE TRAIL (1940), THE SEA HAWK (1940), VIRGINIA CITY (1940) and DIVE BOMBER (1941)

The Passion of the Christ (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

I have to say that this is the best movie I have ever seen. I feel that this movie is so powerful because it is true. It may not be 100% accurate, but the message and the feeling behind it is the truth. This is to date, the best portrayl of Christ's final hours ever put on film. Since it was directed by Mel Gibson and stars Jim Caviezel, you know that alot of time and effort, and research, went onto the making of this film. I think that any creed of Christianity should see this and know exactly what was done for us. My only complaint, and it is minor,it that there wasn't more shown in the garden of Gethsemene, since it was it fact the most important part of His sacrifice. But other than that, it is perfect. I was crying though out the entire movie, so I recommend a box of tissues.

A left hand job by Lars von Trier

This is the first of two series. Trier made this because he was bored, and he said that he made it with the right hand on the back. The next serie he promised to make with both hands tied on the back. Are you looking for a deeper meaning in the film? There is no deep meaning, just for fun. The both series became very popular in Scandinavia.

Ryan and much much more

I happened to get tickets for the special screening of Academy Award nominated animated shorts in February this year. When "Ryan" got the Oscar the next month it was no surprise- the film, about the animator Ryan Larkin, was so far beyond the other entrants there was kind of a collective gasp and a stunned silence followed by wild applause in the theater when it was shown.
Ryan Larkin did some remarkable breakthrough animation in the 60's and early 70's and Chris Landreth (The DVD also has early Larkin and Landreth films on it as well)animated an interview that he did with him thirty years later. The concept and designs are visually stunning, pushing computer graphics to the edge of what is possible right now (Landreth is an engineer who went to work for Alias software as a creative consultant)and the depth of psychological truth illustrated with those techniques lift this to the status of pure art.
It will take your breath away.

Minority Report delivers...

The movie itself is a feast for the eyes, with many futuristic and imaginative things thrown in by Spielberg, my favorite being the spiders. Despite several plot holes, the movie gave me a sense that this could actually happen. The DVD itself is great, the extra features are interesting and enjoyable and I would recommend this to anyone who'd like a glimpse of the future, from the mind of Spielberg of course.

This is a phenomenal live concert!

This is the best live concert I've ever had the privelege to watch on DVD. Though there are noticeable recorded background vocals, Stevie and Christie sound in top form. I couldn't help thinking that they sounded so good that they must have rehearsed endlessly for this concert (I'm wondering if these songs are all from the same show because there aren't really any noticeable mistakes). Lindsey Buckingham does a solo perfomance for Go Insane and Big Love that is so emotionally charged that I was blown away. He is truly one of the best guitarists in the world. Landslide is another top song from the disc, and this performance will leave you with wet eyes (I was feeling like I invaded Stevie and Lindsey's privacy during this song). Every song is top quality and flawlessly perfomed. Lindsey's vocals are a little rough throughout, but it doesn't take away from any part of the show. The only song I didn't care much for was My Little Demon. They could have left this one off the disc. It just isn't up to the standards of every single other song here. If you are a Fleetwood Mac fan, and love both Christie's songs and Stevie's songs, then you have to buy this concert video. Besides their voices being WAY better than I thought possible for a live perfomance, they are both stunning to look at (Christie looks better than she did 20 years ago, no kidding). I borrowed the DVD from a friend, and decided after one viewing that I would have to purchase it. The cd from this tour isn't as good as the DVD you're about to purchase, because it is missing 5 very important songs. You won't regret it. I wish they would tour again because I would pay any amount of money to see a concert of this quality again.
