UAU !

One of the best movies I've ever watched ! ALl the cast is fantastic, the history leads to a sensation of a powerless situation, and the "evil" character (Ryder) gets away with it all. I just wonder why this great actor, Day-Lewis, one of the best of the whole world, makes so few pictures. HE could easily be more famous and accomplished than he is (even already winning an Oscar)

Tori Amos - Welcome to Sunny Florida (DVD with Bonus CD in Amray Case) - movie DVD cover picture
A brillant musical performance written by a gifted musician

When people ask me what artists music I like, Tori Amos is one of the first to be mentioned. If you have never heard or seen this musical being perform, this is a must have to add to your music collection. As an observer/audience member you will realize that you are witnessing more than just a performance, you are witnessing something much more spiritual. Tori Amos always says that each song she sings is alive because each piece has a theme, a message, a spirit and provokes thought in the listener. Whether it be the poetic lyrics filled with metaphors and hidden sybolism or the beautiful musical arrangements that Tori has written and performs with her musicians, you will be touched by the spirit of each piece and thank the higher powers for the opportunity to be part of such an experience.

"Welcome to Sunny Florida" is a compilation of some of Tori's and her musicians favorite pieces to perform. Tori, now 41 (I believe) shows a different tone to each song which I credit to her being a mother as well as the knowledge she has gained over the years, especially towards her Native American Heritage. The amazing thing about her shows are not only her performance but the respect her fans have for her and her music. The audience acts as if they were attending a recital, listening intently, being respectful, not shouting during the performance, and always showing their love and appreciation for the Musical Goddess on stage for sharing her talent which is unsurpassed in the music industry.

Tori Amos is a dying breed of people called "Musicians" in the music industry. She is a composer, performer, and a singer, something not very common in the music industry which I find rather disturbing since I, like Tori, am an Apprentice Musician. You do not have to be able to read or write music to be a musician but you must always perform music that is true to you and that are able to perform in a way that is true to you as a human being and touches the audience. On the DVD she summarized the music industry beautifully, "When the most important thing in the music industry is two women kissing on stage, that says a lot about the music industry. The music industry is not about music." I could not agree more with her perspective.

Tori is music, mind, body, and soul. She demonstrates that with her musical arrangements of such songs as "Precious Things", "Cornflake Girl", "Concertina", and many more. She always performs on her Bosendorfer's which are Austrian made piano's that date back to 1826 and have been the choice piano for many composers, such as, Frederick Chopin. These pianos are not cheap either, especially the Concert Grand model like she has which I would estimate is well over $60,000.00. (just a guess) But to Tori, it is all about quality and does not believe in doing anything musical in a mediocre fashion. Music is her greatest love in life, next to her daughter and it shows through her album prices (look at the price of this album, $17.98 for a DVD of a full length concert and a CD with 6 new songs all written and performed by Tori Amos.

To sum it up Tori Amos never gives her fans less than they want she gives them more. She makes her albums an affordable price so all her fans could enjoy her musical genius. She charges the same price for a concert ticket anywhere in the venue regardless of location. I saw her in San Diego in 2002 where she sold out 2 shows at Symphony Hall in less than a day. The shows were also back to back, one at 8:00pm and one at 10:00pm, I attended the late performance and she was electrifying. If you buy this DVD/CD you will find yourself wanting more as all her other fans do.

They can't remake this awsome classic!!

This movie left us with such good feelings. It was well written, flowed gracefully. Great dialogue, dancing and laughter.
I have seen the new version with Richard Gere. While it is a good movie, it's not this movie. Some of the dialogue they used was directly from the original and did not flow quite the same way. (i.e., the detective telling his assistant why the rude couple was disqualified " Its a british sport, after all" sounded forced and did not quite fit. All in all the original version gets my vote for the better movie.

Tolkien would be proud

What can I say about Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy? The major reviews of "The Return of the King" all share a common feature: they seem to be pushing the boundaries of the English language to express what Jackson has achieved. It's as if they don't have words big or lavish enough to capture what he has done here. Words like "monumental," "colossal," and phrases like "the film event of the millennium" and "a triumph, on par with 'Lawrence of Arabia' and 'Gone with the Wind'" come from the pens of critics who do not hand out such praises lightly. I couldn't agree more.
Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings had a powerful effect on me when I first read it, and it remains my favorite book of all time (apart from the Bible). It was with trepidation that many fans of the book awaited Jackson's film version, but his translation of the 20th century's most popular book onto celluloid is, well, monumental. Just as there are few words to express the achievement, there are no words to express the horror that could have ensued had some other Hollywood directors managed to get the rights to these films.
I followed the production from the beginning on various websites, and it's almost sad now that the whole thing is finished. Jackson's vision of Tolkien isn't perfect by any means, and it is colored by his own perspective on the story, but it remains, nonetheless, the film event of the millennium. Tolkien-heads like me couldn't be happier about it.

The Scariest Movie about Giant Bugs Ever.

This is an excellent monster movie, pure and simple. It is not really campy or funny, but it manages to do something that few monster movies do nowadays; it scares you. Yup. The atmosphere for this movie is great and the movie is very unpredictable. It seems if Del Toro took quite a bit of care to avoid cliches, and he definitely succeeds. If you want a monster movie that is actually scary, pick up Mimic. If seeing a giant roach killing a child does not shake you up a little bit, watch this on a rainy night.

I give "Mimic" a 4.5 out of 5(rounds up).

Still Got Something Inside

This DVD rules. As many people metioned about this DVD,these are old music videos, some of the video and sound tracks did not match, and all lack of new footage. But check this out, there is a "POISON WORLD TOUR HIGHLIGHTS 1999-2000" video clip you might not found in the "BONUS VIDEOS". Just use your remote and enter the BONUS VIDEOS menu, then press "7",or make the skull highlighted and press enter. You can see there's a four-minute vedio clip of POISON's concert last year. Though it's just a short video clip, but you can see how POISON's back on stage and their live performance is still awesome. This should be qualified as "new footage" I guess, and I think it's worth of anything. Hope we can have POISON's concert DVD soon!!!! By the way, if you play this DVD with PC not DVD player, the video and sound synch problem will gone. It's weired, but that's how it works.

Wonderful Film

Shrek is a great film when you consider it has a lot of fun pop-culture jokes and amazing animation (look for the scene with the grass hill and watch the grass)
It's weakest element is the storyline - a few holes are in it but it still manages to hold together. The overall look, feel and laughter are infectious and you will enjoy this no matter the age, no matter if kids are in tow or not.

Bellydancing: The Sensuous Workout 2 "Pure Technique" with Shamira - movie DVD cover picture
Great dances, for the heartrate

You know, I often wonder why people have to write things like "you are best off getting" when writing a review... I don't think it's about "what you are better off getting" it's about what you got or get.

As a bellydancer and a bellyrobics fan, I have lots of dvds and this one is in my collection as well as Shamira's first to this "Sensuous" set. A Sensuous workout is exactly what you are going to get when working out with this dvd, it's by far not slow paced, Shamira really picks up the pace toward the end of the 2nd and 3rd dances, beginning with a slow warmup then slowly picking up the pace. If you're getting this for a bellydance workout you're going to use muscles that you never would normally use, "Sensuously" :-) I love this, the use of circles and hip drops and lifts..... Cool

This is also good for those who want to learn to bellydance too. It has 22 chapters of how to do, that will strengthen your muscles for the challenge of the 3 dances that you are going to learn/practice or workout to at the end.

I've written a review for Shamira's first "Sensuous" workout and I'm going to use the same frame of words I wrote there here.

Lots of circles, hiplifts and "sensuous" figure 8's, all are muscle toners. Circles are fantastic on the upper thighs and the lower bottom while the figure 8's work the hips and upper bottom. In fact the lower the impact of the workout the more fat you will burn, the higher the impact, you lean more toward sugar and fluid loss thus dehydrating, so, as soon as you eat, the weight you lost during your high impact workout will be gained. So, "Sensuously", dance your way to fitness. :-)

The music is seriously cool too.
