To Infinity and Beyond!

Okay, these are, in theory, kids' movies. But they're kids' movies like the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a kids' movie, or the Harry Potter books are kids' books. Its the classic case of appeal to all ages.
This is also one of those rare cases where the sequel improves on the original. Not to condemn the wonderful original, but the second is even better. Its worth noting Disney originally planned the sequel as a straight to video release, since they generally don't do animated sequels on the big screen, but they were so impressed by its quality, they opted to release it theatrically.
These movies should be watched by aynone who ever played with toys!

Samurai Assassin - movie DVD cover picture
Toshiro Mifune in a film based on the Saurada Gate incident

"Samurai Assassin" is based on a historical event in 1860 when a group of assassins waited by Saurada Gate inside Edo castle to assassinate the lord of the House of Ii, who is high up in the ruling Tokugawa Shogunate. This is a Japan on the verge of major changes, represented by the American ships in the harbor. However, the assassins think one of them is a traitor. The main suspects are Tsuruchiyo Niino (Toshiro Mifune), a ronin who wants to become a samurai so that his unknown father will declare himself, and Kurihara Einosuke (Keiju Kobayashi) a high-born samurai who strikes up a friendship with Niino. The characters are developed and the tension builds under the wonderful conclusion, which takes place in a world of falling snow that lends an unearthly beauty to the bloody carnage.
This 1965 film offers a nice mix between the historical samurai films of the Fifties (e.g., "The 47 Ronin") and Chan-Bara bloodbaths of the late Sixties (e.g., the "Lone Wolf and Cub" films). It is not so much a true marriage of the two traditions but more beginning in the one approach and ending more decidedly in the other. The film is two hours long but this is not really a concern because of the brisk pacing by director Kihachi Okamotoand the increasing complexity of the story. Of course in front of the camera is Mifune's riveting performance highlighted by Hiroshi Murai's cinematography. "Samurai Assassin" is a film that should appeal to fans of diverse genres of samurai films. I certainly appreciate the sense of history and the detailed narrative that is created, because for me the sword play and the blood-letting always ends up being secondary considerations. The significance of a person's death matters more than the creative way in which they are sliced and diced by the samurai hero.

Jeeves & Wooster - The Complete Second Season - movie DVD cover picture
Not as good as season one but still FUNNY!

It only took one episode to addict me to Jeeves and Wooster. This season finds our heroes once again in and out of scrapes, most of them matrimonial. The fact that some of the actors are different is alarming at first, especially when you watch the two seasons back to back but the replacemnts are very good and soon it does not distract at all.
My two favorite episodes are kidnapped, in which Bertie is almost forced into a shotgun wedding and The episode in which Aunt Agatha tries to set poor Bertie up with a young lady who happens to be a confidence trickster. Of course, brillian Jeeves saves the day.
The DVD offers no extras except chapter search but the quality of the picture is good and DVDs are very convenient.
If you've never seen Jeeves and Wooster don't be afraid to take the plunge. It's a lovely bit of British humor.

Tenchi the Movie - Tenchi Muyo In Love - movie DVD cover picture
very good

In Tenchi Muyo in Love, Tenchi and the girls go back in time. Which Star Trek movies are said to be the best? Number 4 and number 8. Back to the Futeure is a classic sci-fi movie. What do they all have in common? TIME TRAVEL. Somehow, time travel does wonders for science fiction. In the movie, an "A-1 Class Criminal" named Kain does something weird to subspace to break out of prison. He is sent back in time, and decides to go to Earth to kill Achika, Tenchi's mother. Washu, using her strange scientific magic, finds out what happened and informs Tenchi and The Girls that Tenchi will dissapear. so it's back to 1970. The Girls go and keep watch on Achika, and Sasami keeps watch on Tenchi. Tenchi has to stay out of sight of his mother and father. One of the greatest things about the movie is that we see Achika and Nobuyuki (Tenchi's father) start to fall in love. But for a second Ryoko and Ayeka almost ruin it. The other cool thing about the movie is the action. At the end is the showdown with Kain, which is excellent. The way Kain dies is a bit surprising. The movie isn't rated, but it would probably be rated PG-13.

What about Pedro??

It has been over a year since the release of the second season. Please say it ain't so. Television shows should only be released on Dvd if there is some sort of committment from the vendor to release all seasons. I fear this may have become a trend to release the first season then leave us dangling. I would like as many others to collect the entire group of seasons without becoming part of a "test group"

Don't over analyze this film!

I could not wait to see this movie based on word of mouth hype. What a shocking disappointment. It was singularly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The dialogue was diabolically bad. Even in its basest form, a total waste of money. If you must see this out of curiosity, rent, don't buy.

a masterpiece!

I am not a starwars fanatic however, I do like the movies and episode 3 was superb! It was by far the best of them all. I was blown away when I saw this film, and I don't even see hardly anymovies in the theatre. It was like the final chapter, the movie that brings everything together and it couldn't have been more exciting! I plan on going back to see this movie maybe even more than once. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen!

Great Movie, Well Done

Very Interesting and entering. Taking the Odeyssey and making it into a depression type film. Excellent camera work, direction, and acting. The use of computers in this film was interesting as well, which is on the dvd, the making of the movie. I really enjoy watching this film and I am not one to watch movies over again but I have this one.

Its all about color, sound, making decisions and fun!

A great film. Lola is a cool, the action is riveting, the music is great, the acting is wonderful and the filming is clever. The DVD is particularly good because there is a great music video featuring Franka Potente and commentary by Franka and Tom Tykwer, the director. Also, only on the DVD can you watch the film with letter box. The last shot of the movie just doesn't work with pan and scan. Enjoy!

Scrubs - The Complete First Season - movie DVD cover picture
I know why

I love this show (along with most of the posters here). I never really discovered it until this year, but now I get to relive it from the beginning. For a first season, this is great and less expiremental than in other shows. The commentaries are also actually interesting unlike most other DVD sets. (I found it interesting that Neil Flynn who plays the Janitor ab libs almost all his lines).
The reason that NBC always shovels it around and doesn't advertise it is because the show is owned by Disney. Therefore it is Disney who ultimately profits from the show. Thus NBC would much rather spend money to advertise one of its own shows, and they also knows that no matter how often they move Scrubs, us loyal fans will always seek it out. I still think it was a low blow that theyre not including this in the intial line-up for fall (it'll come along later as a midseason replacement). I don't think it'll ever be canceled, but the whole Disney ownership thing will prevent this from being marketed to the masses, and keeps it at cult status. (This show should really have been on ABC - maybe they thought it was too edgy or something).
