The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over - DTS - movie DVD cover picture
This is it boys and girls!

This has to be the best sounding DVD I own. The sound is even better than Roger Waters' In The Flesh DVD, (also worth buying!), which was the best DVD I owned till Hell Freezes Over. I'm sort of dissapointed now 'cos I feel I've heard the best 5.1 Digital DTS Surround sound on DVD and its not going to get any better for me. A word of caution though, there is also a version of this concert in PCM Stereo only and the covers of both look too much alike. If you buy this DVD elsewhere be sure to check whether its the 5.1 DTS or the PCM Stereo. This release has both and the stereo mix is also fantastic. The instruments really do sound ALIVE. I've always heard other people talk about how great a paticular DVD is and how the players are right there with them. Well, I've never been convinced till I heard this concert. Its almost eerie to be so close! A great deal of care seems to have gone into capturing the acoustic quality of the guitars and congas. I have never heard anything like it in my life. And probably never will! The songs performed on this disc are very well performed. The Eagles seem refreshed and eager to play after their fourteen year vacation. There is a certain atmosphere, (almost a positive aura if you like!), around them. The fact that they are sitting down for most of the selections adds a relaxed feel and really sets the stage. The songs range from a brilliant version of Hotel California and ends with a bonus DTS audio only track of Seven Bridges Road with all five Eagles coming through the five seperate speakers - its mind-blowing.I can't stress how great this DVD really is - you have to see for yourself. Even if its the last DVD you ever get, which it might 'cos other DVDs won't even come close.

Lethal Weapon 4 - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best in the lethal weapon series

Iv been a huge fan of the lethal wepon series and I gota say this is the best of them.Very very funny and they even added in a few other great charecters to make the movie even higher quality such as Jet li and Chris rock. Both play very good roles in the movie especaly Jet li,He makes the movie alot more action packed but Chris rock was mainly put in the movie for the comedy side of it.Joe pecsi is in it and he also makes the movie alot better.Iv been looking at other reviews about this movie and alot are calling them low quality and the most part of the movie they are complaining about is that it has to much swearing, well you know what,I hate to see unpositive reviews about a good movie such as this one and I got somthing to say,if you think its to violent and you cant handle the swearing then dont watch it you little babys.I say this movie is high quality and it has lots of swearing THAT MAKES IT EVEN BETTER.Buy this movie, you wont regret it.

Great film!.......

Ok, so this isn't oliver stone's masterpiece. There are holes all over this thing. The timing of events, the clumsy way he tries to get his message across. Some of the characters are almost wooden, put there just to fill in the pieces. Stone's objective obviously is to tell the viewer about the terrible human rights situation in el salvador so americans realize they were funding the murder of innocent people. He uses the then, recent historical events of that country to make his point. The murders of arch bisop romero, the killing of the 5 american church women ect. Stone makes his point somewhat but feels he has to interject some dialogue in certain places to make it clear just in case he is not getting through to the viewer. There is one scene where boyle(woods) basically summarizes the entire objective.
So, what makes this movie worth 5 stars? This movie is incredibly energetic and unique. It would be an easy cliche to make the central character, boyle(woods), some sort of hero, a white american avenger who wants to save el salvador's people. No, boyle is a lowlife who has lost his journalistic credentials, his wife and son and can't keep his head out of a bottle of booze. Doyle is self serving. He's not there to help el salvadoran's but to rectify his own lost opportunities. So he hears about the explosive situation down there and decides to go. James belusi plays the fired disc jockey who reluctantly heads south with boyle not having a clue what he is getting into. When he begins to have reservations boyle tells him about all the cheap women and booze down there. Now i can't imagine what driving from san francisco to el salvador would be like but it doesn't matter because in a couple of minutes they arrive at the salvadoran border and all hell breaks loose. From that moment on the movie is non stop action as people are dropping like flies.
The james woods character alone makes this a 4* movie. This is his finest role and i believe, his finest performance and that is saying a lot. This is a character that is almost killed and castrated so many times he's like die hard. Despite this there are several incredibly funny moments. The woods character is so amusing it's hard to take him serious when he gets preachy about the violence around him. The james belushi character is similar. He wants to get the hell out of there but doesn't have any money so he makes the most of it by drinking and picking up whores.
One thing i didn't like about this movie was the depiction of the revolutionaries. Wood's character and a photographer friend played nicely by john savage, get permission to follow and report on the guerillas. Stone depicts these revolutionaries like they were hippies living in some commune.
Overall this is a very powerful and entertaining film. Truly different. All the performances are good but it is james woods who steals the show. He should have won an oscar for this. Buy this one and also buy romero. Two great movies about the same general topic from two different perspectives.

Almost like you're there.

This is a compilation of very high-quality color footage of various World War II battles. Particularly gripping are scenes from the battle of Tarawa and allied bombing raids over Germany. Emphasis tilted to footage of the Pacific theatre versus european. Recommended for WWII buffs.

Exceptional political and social commentary

"Fantastic Planet" is one of the most profound and unappreciated commentaries on the Soviet Empire. Produced in Chzechoslovakia shortly after the 1968 Russian invasion, this film is an incredible, under-the-table commentary about life under Russian rule. The giants are the Russian invaders. The humans are the Czechs and Slovaks, kept as curious "pets" but who eventually become troublesome and must be exterminated. The pets organize to resist the giants. This is not a fantasy but one of the finest metaphors of the Cold War and the nuclear age since the Japanese created Godzilla in the wake of the atom bomb. That the Czechs were allowed to produce this film right under the noses of their Russian captors is a testament to their spirit and cunning.

I've Been Waiting For This Version for A LONG Time !...

YES ! It's finally here on dvd. I own both the American "edited" version and the international one. I must say the extra 24 minutes of footage is well worth the re-release as the original international cut. The only deletion in the re-release is the Spanish audio track for dialogue . The plus is that you can now isolate just the soundtrack music as well as a couple of cuts by Sting (Shape of My Heart) and Bjork (Venus As A Boy). These are both excellent songs (Hint: you can dub these directly onto whatever musical recording format in their entirety). I love dvds that will allow anyone to do this ! The color, images, sound are sharp and superb !
As for the acting, what more can I say that has not already been said by other critics and reviewers ! There's not enough praise...
Also, for anyone who has a fear that this may turn out to be a Lolita complexed film due to the relationship between Mathilda and Leon, it is not the case and is prohibited in the movie ! In the end Mathilda sees Leon as more of a father figure;Afterall,Mathilda never had the real or natural love of her true father.Leon also never knew what it was like to have his own kids. With Mathilda his "paternal" instincts start to emerge from his toughened exterior !

Laughter and Wine

Very rich, very funny, deeply troubled look at two men on a buddy trip away from life, which seems to magnify it for them. Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church are friends, a straight and funny man combo to a T, who travel north of their homes in L.A. and San Diego into California's wine country the week before Church's wedding. What ensues is life altering and very funny, but underwritten by each man's desperation and longing in the world. They meet and respectfully fall for Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh, two women who, also being middle aged, are shook up by the men.
I have now seen 3 of Alexander Payne's movies, and have laughed very much at his illumination of regular/middle class life, among regular/working class people, here perfectly personified by Giamatti, in face and body, and aided by his schluby wardrobe. Reminicent of Nicholson in About Schmidt and Matthew Broderick in Election.
Highly recommended, a small film about major times in four lives.

2nd in the Hammer Horror Dracula series

Hooray for Hammer Horror! What would we do with it? Hammer Horror is its own brand of Horror with its own special feel which basically revolves around putting crappy characters and big-chested women in with great set designs and letting the blood flow as much as possible while trying to maintain a "serious" feel. Even this early British Dracula movie from 1965 doesn't shy aware from an odd neck-slitting or two.
Basically the story revolves around four upper-class English tourists who are warned not to visit the Carpathian mountains, but are soon thrown out of their carriage by the driver who does not want to continue on with the journey and naturally they end up in the place where they where told not to go.
Suffice to say that they become guests in the castle of Count Dracula and he rises from the grave to commence his old antics once again. The most enjoyable part of these films is watching Dracula (the ever great Christopher Lee) rejuvenate from his previous film's screen death to only then die in another inventive way.
Hammer Horror is dated material but is still a hell of load of great fun!
