This Film has Charm that Movies just don't have these days.

Susan Faludi, beware of this movie. This is a classic unfeminist supporting, fairy tale about an ugly duckling (played by Audrey Hepburn, can you believe it?) obsessed with a rich, unobtainable man. She goes off to paris to learn to cook, and ends up cooking for the rich unobtainable man's older brother for the rest of her life. It isn't the most ambitious of lives, but the story was well written and Hepburn and Bogart were stunning. Romantic comedies in the 90's just don't have the same charm.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Second Season - movie DVD cover picture
The best TV show ever !

Buffy's second season is probably the best show I ever watched. The story between Buffy and Angel is so romantic. The fact that Buffy is the slayer and that Angel is a vampire makes the story even more interesting. It is certain that this season does not have a lot of action and suspense, but according to me, it's the best. If you love love stories, you'll like this show. If not, the other seasons are better.
Congratulations to Joss Whedon !I love Buffy and I have all the seasons, even the compact discs !Five stars !

2001: A Space Odyssey - movie DVD cover picture

It is unbelievable to me how stupid a large portion of America, and the world in general, truly is. To give this movie a one star review pretty much confirms your complete and total stupidity, considering the fact that 2001 is an absolute astounding work of art which covers more deep and complex ideas than you could have ever even began to contimplate yourself during the span of your dull and pointless life. Just because you are sad that your life has no meaning whatsoever and you will die an un-happy man, not to mention your lower than average intelligence and imagination involving anything other than the classic shot em up action flick, does not give you the right to give 2001, the greatest movie ever made, a bad review. LIGHTEN UP. OPEN YOUR EYES. Here is my suggestion to to you: Take a day of work and watch 2001. When you are 83 and dying of cancer, frantically looking back on your life and searching for its meaning (you probably won't find one) the day you watched 2001 will pop into your mind and you will be complete. (a little too dramatic, i know.)

Still a Classic

I remember being mesmerized by Bambi at the drive in as a kid in the early 70's, and then again on TV but, what a fantastic restoration.

I have to thank for providing this before the actual release date and I was amazed at the restoration. I am not going to review the story as it is a classic and most know what it is about. I will review the repackaging and upgrade of the classic. The new DVD provides extra outtakes that haven't been seen before and the new coloration is fantastic. Gone is the sort of gloomy non crisp colors and in its place are wonderful bright colors.

Fantastic redo! If you have kids they will love this updated version. If you just like Disney Classics than you will also want to own this one.

Bay did great

The film is awesome. An emotional roller coaster. People that don't like it all want more blood and guts and not a real story with characters that one could actually care about.

A classic film noir

After the absorbing "Under The Sand", director Francois Ozon has completely changed tack with this delightful confection starring some of French cinema's most legendary and indeed most beautiful actresses. Taking his cue from the stereotypical murder mystery with suspects trapped in a secluded mansion, Ozon has transformed this into a colourful and sometimes even camp (in the best sense of the word) film with women at the centre.
It is difficult to single out individual performances - however the two youngest actresses, Virginie Ledoyen and Ludivine Sagnier suffer a little in the presence of the great firmament of acting. Catherine Deneuve, as always is luminous while Firmine Richard gets the best song, and her delivery gives it added pathos. Emmanuelle Beart is sultry, Fanny Ardant is vampy and the grande dame of the cinema, Danielle Darrieux ("Voluers! Assasins!") adds great comic touches. However, by a nose the most outstanding performace has to be Isabelle Huppert's spinster, Augustine. It would have been easy to go over the top with her character (and at times she veers dangerously close) but she is able to pull back and her "singing moment" challenges Richard's for being the most heart-breaking.
The film does betray its theatrical origins sometimes but this lends itself to the artifice that Ozon wishes to create. Once you have got over the unlikely scenario of suspects in a murder breaking into song, you will sit back and thoroughly enjoy this winning musical.

a parody of itself, you idiots

After reading a few hundred reviews (yes, I was bored), I noticed one of the big complaints is that this movie is that it is 'unimaginative' and 'predictable'. There were also quite a few complaints on the scripting of the film. Keep in mind this film was supposed to be a parody of itself. Then entire movie was shot and made to mimic one of those awful Jerry Bruckheimer (or however you spell it) movies that follow the same formula over and over again. ex. The Rock, Con Air

Also, in response to the idiot that was defending Hollywood actors I have a statement. Hollywood actors are actors, not politicians. The only reason people listen to them is because the media gives them that power. These people don't have the qualifications to consider themselves as experts in global issues. They are just a bunch of hippies whose ideals are unrealistic and shallow. What I find hilarious about Hollywood is that if one idea becomes even remotely popular there, everyone seems to latch onto it for dear life. Of course I'm speaking in generalities, because I'm sure there are a few actors in Hollywood that are decent human beings.

Anywho, this movie was great. It made fun of all points of view, which is what I believe was intended. It's offensive only to those who are uncomfortable in their ideals, beliefs, and have sheltered themselves from other points of view all their lives. This movie get's the "BigD Double Fist Seal of Approval."

The Garden of Eden (Deluxe Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

I am second to none in my admiration for Corinne Griffith, the exquisitely beautiful actress who was probably one of the ten leading female stars of the American silent screen. She was also widley considered to be the most beautiful star of the silent screen. Sadly, only a handful of her films are known to survive and only two or three get any sort of circulation at all (THE DIVINE LADY and BACK PAY are shown on Turner Classic Movies about once every other year). So needless to say I rejoice that one of Corinne's greatest triumphs, the 1928 comedy THE GARDEN OF EDEN has been released on DVD with a nice print. Corinne plays a destitute showgirl who passes herself off as royalty. This movie is so charming, the finest romantic comedy ever made during the silent years. Corinne's leading men are two big stars from the era also unjustly underrated: Charles Ray and Lowell Sherman. If you love the Claudette Colbert and Carole Lombard comedies of the 1930's, you will be surprised to see how much they owe to this underrated gem.
One not so little quibble. The star's name is CORINNE Griffith not CORRINE Griffith as listed on the DVD. This error happens quite often in film histories. (Corinne is in at least great company; Katharine Hepburn thoroughout her legendary career had people mispelling her name as "Katherine".) It's also good to see a silent movie on DVD that is not overpriced yet still is given a class production.
