The challenging depths of memory and time

One of the most moving and beautiful films I've ever seen. Contrary to what I'd expected, I found it pretty easy to follow. Sensual AND spiritual. Imaginative AND realistic. A supreme masterpiece in my view.

Fine Dramatization of Celebrated Rhode Island Criminal Case

Along with the scandal-ridden career of Vincent "Buddy" Cianci, the mayor of Providence, the Von Bulow case was, and probably remains, a popular topic of conversation in Rhode Island. Barbet Schroeder gives a mesmering look at a dark chapter in the history of Newport, Rhode Island with exceptional performances from Jeremy Irons and Ron Silver. Iron portrays Claus Von Bulow with the right mix of elegance and sleaziness thrown in, letting us know that he is not quite the man he seems to be (Indeed, Von Bulow had married far above his station when he wed Sunny - Glenn Close in the film; there are many who still believe that he deliberately tried to poison her for her wealth.). Fellow Stuyvesant High School alumnus Ron Silver is magnificient as Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz; although he doesn't quite resemble Dershowitz, he does a remarkable portrayal of the latter's personality, judging from what I have seen of Dershowitz during his conversations with television talk show hosts Larry King and Ted Koppel. This splendid film is both a first rate thriller and a revealing look at how rewarding justice can be for those who are wealthy. Without a doubt, it is one of the finest dramatizations of a celebrated criminal case ever filmed.

A Bold, Beautiful Attempt to make a Great gay movie

I disagree with most of the people reviewing this movie. The
thing that redeems this movie is the fact that the producers making it have their heart in it.
Even A person who is not gay would obviously feel for the two kids that are.In a way it's a real tear jerker. The fact that it
has a great ending also speaks well of it.
The movie does have it's weaknesses-true.Some of the script could be better. I didn't appreciate the alcohol part of it.For some reason people have the ideas all gays, even the teens drink or get drunk. Not so!! Even so through the alcoholic fog , We see Tommy coming out to Seth by kissing him and then it seems the relationship gets closer and closers but without just sex.(In fact -there are no real sex scenes in the whole movie- just twice you see them hugging and kissing- one of which was an imagined scene in Tommy's thoughts) The 2 kids are very much in love with each other and it shows.
This is not a movie about sex - It's a movie about love and
it shows it.The kids are playful, caring, talking all the time and form a relationship that is admirable.
If I were a young gay teen I'd love to meet the character of Seth.He is the real star of the movie and the actor did a terrific job portraying him.A loyal, sincere kid with a desire to be the best he could but mingled with the pain of being tortured at the hospital, who could not be moved by such a kid??
So I rate this film high on being a great movie based on sincerety, a rare film showing a loving relationship that is rarely seen and certainly a terrific ending make this to be a wonderful first film for a gay teen to see-hoping he's not however swayed by the alcoholic scenes.
Maybe there's a few things that should have been improved but for a low budget film, it is something I enjoy watching.
By the way I give it a 5 star rating for the wonderful music in the movie.Great soundtrack!!

A timeless classic of the Bond-series

After 007 aka. Roger Moore saved the world twice (in "The spy who loved me" and "Moonraker"), the legendary spy went back where he actually belongs - down to earth. And so did director John Glen. Instead of telling another absurd story, he set 007 in an realistic atmosphere, where he not only has to safe a precious code-machine from a sunken ship, but also has to keep back the beautiful and mysterious Elektra from killing the murders of her parents before she gets killed. So much to the story - and she's good! - the rest of this great film is nothing but pure action, mixed with a little taste of humor and a slice of romance (of course). This Bond-movie also has some of the most memorable casts in the whole history of the series: From French actress Carole Bouquet to charming Topol and fierce villains Julian Glover and late Michael Gothard, everything fits perfect. And coming back to the action part - it's insane! Starting with the opening scene where Supervillain Blofeld returns and moving fast from ski chases to shark attacs to mountain climbing - YOU NAME IT, YOU GET IT!Really, this movie hasn't lost it's fascination and ist perfect for everyone who seeks good alternatives to the boring TV-stuff.Definitly one of the best Bonds ever - and one of the best Action-Movies!

I can't say enough good things about Denzel! Once again he has been robbed of a much deserved oscar. The movie is very good, there are a few slow parts, but Denzel makes up for it. I have never cried at different times than in this movie. Denzel has the power to make you feel what the Hurricane went through. The musical score was a master piece as well Christopher Young is a genious with the Violin. Watch this and you will see why Denzel was robbed. There is no way that anyone can see Denzel and Kevin's performance and say that Denzel didn't do a greator (much greater) acting job than Kevin. Nuff said! To Denzel.... don't let the Academy get you upset you know and the rest of America knows what is right and just!

A Wonderful movie,gotta see it!!!!!

The Wiz shows thet all movies dont have to be an all-white cast to be good. this movie has similarities of the Wizard of Oz but adds funk and its own blend in it. Especially since most of the actors were well-known it makes you want to watch it even more. I remember when I first saw this movie and I loved it.

As good now as it was then . . .

I first saw this on the "big screen" as a child, and was totally blown away by the special effects. I'm still amazed at what they were able to do given the "state of the art" at the time (1959). No, it's not precisely the way Jules Verne wrote it, but the basics of the plot and story are there. James Mason is the archtypical passionate professor, and quite good in this role. Arlene Dahl does a fine job in what could have been "just another pretty face" role. She actually gives it some character and "spunk." And Pat Boone works well in the student role, once he gets past the cheesy "Scottish" accent.
This is a great family flick -- minimal violence, nothing that would tempt other than a "G" rating -- and the "good guys" win in the end. Fantastic scenery, believable special effects -- a great way to spend an afternoon!
