The best script Smith has written to date!

Though Clerks is my personal favorite of Kevin Smith's works, Chasing Amy is the most exceptional, creative, and inventive of any of his stories. Some of my friends believe that Chasing Amy doesn't have an "indie" feeling to it. They said it was too Hollywood. Only you can decide whether the movie is too Hollywood, but this movie is really great.

Personal Classic!

First, if one reviewer was actually in the film and loved it, how come he only gave it 2 stars? For being in it, he should have given it 5!

Now this film was always on my mind since around 1980 when I was a young child. I NEVER forgot about this film. This film always had a special place in my heart as I always wanted to be like the kids, smart, rich and having secret compartments in their rooms.

I used to watch this film every chance I could on either HBO or The Movie Channel back when those channels were indeed premium. I recalled that it came on a lot, but not that much. Then it just stopped coming on and I had not seen it since around 1981 or so. That is a good while. I recently tracked down the DVD. I am a DVD purist, so I was disappointed that it was not widescreen , if it was ever shot in widescreen. The picture quality was surprisingly great for a film that not many recall or ever heard of. The DVD quality was great overall, but some extras could have worked. I don't even think it had the trailer on it. I saw a trailer on the internet.

Upon watching this movie, I was watching to see if I got the same feeling I had when I recalled it from so long ago. I wanted to see if it would have the same effect on me now as it did back then. I have to say that it did! Unlike a lot of movies that i loved from back in the day (16 Candles and a lot of kung-fu films), it was still as good as I recalled. Only the computers(I did not know of or had ever heard of anything called a computer back then. I did know about Atari though!) and other technology looks so -old now.

As I watched, I was looking to see if I would become mystified at the setup which is the discovery of the case with the money in it. I was. Also, as I watched the film, I realized that this film, the characters, their lines and most everything else shaped my personality and being. Yeah, it's that deep. As a little kid, this had a profound influence on me. Watching it and realizing this was shocking. It also let me see how it is to get older and remember back 25 years ago! That in and of itself is shocking! I can also recall the time period very well as for some reason, they were the best years of my life. Maybe it was because of Star Wars or the neighborhood. I don't know, but you can't go wrong with this film.

One other thing, at the time, I did not realize that the kids were 'country.' Dion Pride playing the guitar, I did not realize who he was. I thought that he was just a new actor. He did a great job. I could not find a credit for him being in anything else which is weird. I did not realize that he sang the songs in the film too! Then I looked it up and saw that he was Charlie Pirde's son. That made sense. That arthur character, back then I did not know if he was a male or female and I am still not sure today! That one cannot be solved with age.

I LOVED this show to pieces when I was 15! My friend and I would spend countless wasted hours sitting on the internet at our Catholic high school reading inappropriate FK fan fiction. I even tried my hand at it, a parody called "Forever Catholic." Haha! Don't ask. I was messed up. When "Last Knight" aired I was so distraught that I literally sobbed for days on end! It is really great the powers that be are finally releasing this [great]show on DVD! It was "Buffy" and "Angel" early-90s-style, terrifically deep, and gave me a lot to meditate on. If you can't afford to buy these DVDs rent or steal them from someone who won't miss their beauty.

Great movie to me

This movie is filled with most things that the real life college scene is all about, well except for the attempted murder part. However, that can happen, and that's what the movie is about. It stars Mia Kirshner as the poor girl who gets taken in by Meredith Monroe's character and her followers Rachel True and Dominique Swain. Even though there's lots of improvements needed for this movie, it's still a great movie to watch. It's just fun to watch. Recommend it if you're bored.

Captivating and splendid

The two disk set is as good as it gets. Too bad it did not go on
to cover the later years. The production is among the best I have seen. There is nothing that Edward Fox wore that I would reject.
10 second scences required different wardrobe. I know Edward was a careful and distinguished dresser , but James Fox oudoes him on all counts. The sets and dress were equal to the story

Best Concert DVD

I got tickets for my husband as an early Christmas present, and since he wouldn't want to go alone, for myself too. The show was incredible. This DVD is our souvenier and we were transported in time to the concert when we watched it. My ONLY complaints are that it didn't sound as good as the live show even through a really good stereo system with subwoofer - BUT it was still very good if you like a lot of bass. It seemed the bass was good and the vocals but you don't notice the great guitar work in the background as much. It still sounds great though. My other complaint is that the people at the Texas concert where the DVD was filmed may have gotten ripped off, there is a song on the Complex album (which is phenomenal!!!) called Piano Smasher. It wasn't on the DVD but it is my husband's favorite and we really enjoyed it live. The cover of White Rabbit was also not on the DVD. If they performed it at the Texas concert, then it must have been left off the DVD because of time constraints. There are 5 videos on the DVD. One is with Dave Matthews, same as the vocals on the album. I'm a fan of DMB but my husband is NOT. Peter Moore is the vocalist in the concert and I thought he did a much better job on the song than Dave Matthews did. Peter Moore did many of the songs and he is great. Tracy Bonham was fantastic too. She is a tiny thing with an enormous voice. There is another video called Exhibit 13 that is a haunting tribute to Sept 11. Very nicely done. There are 5 songs on it that are in 5.1 Dolby Digital surround. There will be a re-release in 2004 of the Complex album in 5.1 also. We will be owning that too! This is my favorite concert DVD, for the music, the visual and dancing! My 4 yr old and 8 month old daughters love the music and visual of it. They are the toughest critics too.

Whigs in Wigs

This beautifully shot, highly intelligent, somewhat surreal and shockingly unknown film was originally made by Peter Greenaway for the opening night of Channel Four Television in Britain, and represents, perhaps, the man at his peak. The story, which avoids any direct explanations of itself or its plot, centres around a draughtsman (Higgins) who is hired to produce twelve drawings of a stately home in England. While he draws, objects appear in the landscape around him, which he includes in his drawings... when a body finally surfaces, do the drawings contain evidence concerning the identities of its murderers, or has some clever person purposely placed the objects in order to frame someone else... possibly the draughtsman himself? One may watch the film many times, each time coming up with a different answer; the motives and dialogue contradict each other just enough to add to the mystery, but not enough to ruin any possible explanation. The sountrack (by Michael Nyman) is also interesting: the themes within it are based on eight-bar samples of Mozart which are repeated and improvised upon, to hypnotising and evocative effect. A fascinating film.

Alan Spencer Comes Through For His Fans!

I first stumbled across Sledge whilst slumped on my sofa after a heavy night on the beer 16 years ago. Late night TV in the UK was just being born and Sledge was man enough for the task. I couldn't believe that this was finally being released on DVD. Unlike the reviewer from 7th July 2004, I find this series as funny today as I did all those years ago - it is the stuff of which legends are made. Alan Spencer, I salute you!
