Standing In The Shadows of Motown - movie DVD cover picture
The Untold Story

Finally, the story of the fabulous musicians of Motown is starting to be told. The movie spends a little too much time lamenting the fact that the Funk Brothers are unknown, but then spends the rest of the move celebrating the triumphs and challenges of the greatest hit machine the world has ever seen. Great stuff!
As a musician, I had two reactions to this movie:
1) Make it longer! I want to know and hear everything!
2) Wow, Motown music was MUCH more complex than I ever imagined when I was listening on cheap radios in my youth. These guys were basically jazz musicians, and the productions were very complex. If I had realized the level of musicianship that went in to these songs, I wouldn't have been so eager to do simple rock n' roll cover versions in my high-school and college bands. Doesn't mean the music isn't great, however.
Here's hoping that the Funk Brothers realize the fruits of the success that they obviously deserve. Enjoy the music!

Not the OC but a whole different view

Laguna Beach is a great show to watch while hanging out with your friends or just having some down time on a Saturday afternoon. It is mostly made up of fueds between friends and dramas that occur with regular teenagers around the world. I for one love this show and TiVo it every time it appears on television. I used to think it was just abut some stupid kids running around spending money but when I started to watch it more and more, I got hooked! I can't wait to see the next season! I would definatley recomend this show and would encourage you to buy the DVD set.

A Biblical Movie?

Another reviewer already mentioned the Immaculate Conception. This was what went through my mind too. When you think about this film there is a rather biblical theme to it. Whether it's intentional or not is another question.
What I mean is, when John Connor is conceived, Sarah is being impregnated by someone who hasn't been born yet. Technically, he doesn't really exist. So in a way, Sarah is like the Virgin Mary. Is it a coincidence that John Connor, the one who will save mankind, has the same initials of a messiah people worship already?
Armageddon is, of course, a biblical theme. After it comes, John Connor will lead his followers in a battle against Skynet, which could really be interpreted as the Antichrist. The devil inside us(mistrust of the other side) was responsible for this defense computer being built, and unleashing the evil that followed.
You may well laugh at my theory, I'm not a religious person. But if my theory is right, then this is the best screen adaptation of the Book of Revelation ever made!

The Tearjerker To End All Tearjerkers

I had always been apprehensicve about watching "Steel Magnolias". I generally find tearjerkers boring and manipulative. I loved "Terms Of Endearment", but that had a lot of humor in it (all coming from Jack Nicholson). But my parents begged me to watch it. Well, I loved it. It is hard for me to put into words how much I loved this movie.I don;t know if it's because everyhting's I wanted to say about it has been said, or becuase I'm too tired to come up with anything good to write. So I will basically rate it like this:

Plot: 5/5 (Realistic and life affirming)
Cast: 5/5 (Stop criticizing Daryl Hannah. She was perfect for Anelle)
Performances: 5/5 (I'm still shocked nobody won an Oscar)
Standout Scene: The entire funeral sequence.
Standout performer: Everyone gave equally perfect performances, but Shirley MacLaine was pure pleasure as Weaser. Her hysterical one liners stole the show. She reminds me so much of my Aunt Dora.
Extras: 3.5/5
Overall rating 5/5

I hope you found this review informative and helpful. Bottom line: a must see movie.

Undoubtedly Worth It, especially on DVD

Snatch has got to be my favorite movie. I bought it on VHS almost 2 weeks ago, and i watched it about 10 times and never got tired of it. About one week ago, I bought the DVD for all the extras. The VHS is wonderful, but the DVD is even better. On DVD, you have behind the scenes (with the actors and special effects), deleted scenes, pictures, filmographies, comments.. just great stuff, especially if you like the movie. The only thing I would change about it is the fact that it didn't show enough Benicio del Toro. But that's my opinion. The movie is still completely AWESOME and everyone should go buy it now, its worth it.
(the effects are great, the plot is great, everything about the movie rocks, plus brad pitt has his shirt off in a few scenes -- don't worry though, this is NOT a "chick flick".. thats just a bonus) .. *AND this movie is HILARIOUS -- clever too, not stupid like Dude Where's My Car?*
PS: The SOUNDTRACK to this movie kicks [butt]!!!!

Fight Club (Single Disc Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best films of the 90's

Provocative, intense, violent, insane, all these words describe Fight Club. But there's more to Fight Club than a bunch of fight scenes and violence, there's an inner meaning, which hints towards the fall of the materialistic western society. The people in Fight Club are nothing less than the victims. They are victims to society and each other as the story developes. Brilliantly acted, an incredible plot, you can almost feel the characters pain. The originality of this movie itself baffles the mind. If you watch it once and then watch it again you can truly appreciate the twist ending and the originality of the cinematography. What else is there to say other than: Watch this movie, it is a MUST SEE.
