The Quintessential Cult Action Movie

The Boondock Saints is one of the quintessential cult classic movies of this decade. When Russian mob bosses try to take the neighborhood bar, Irish Catholic Vigilants Conner and Murphy, Sean Flannery and Norman Reedus, fight back for the little guy and thwart the diabolical plot along with life long mate Rocco, David Della Rocco. But what do they do now? The answer is simple: make retribution a career. But when the FBI sends their best investigator, William DaFoe, to join the hunt along with two other mob families, our angels of retribution are in for the fight of their lives but without of course taking it too seriously. Lock and load for this light hearted, thought provoking, high action feature.
I really liked this movie because of the good story and the amusing characters/ dialogue not to mention the unbelievable action sequences. It truly does use all of the stereotypes of the traditional action movie to its advantage by making fun of them yet at the same time performing them. The two-narrator style works very well as well and I think that the whole thing is a blast because of it. The characters rule! The action is awesome! And I spent 25 bucks for the DVD willingly. Years later and I do not regret my purchase in the least. I would definitely say that this is a must own movie.

jaime pressly as sexy dominatrix...wow!

Gorgeous, sexy young blonde actress Jaime Pressly plays a dominatrix who takes revenge on her enemies by seducing and killing them. She uses all the tricks - chains, handcuffs, whips, to bring her men to submission and then strikes. Great sexy concept, like Basic INstinct or Body of Evidence. If the idea of an innocent-looking luscious girl tying up, torturing and killing helpless men turns you on, watch this movie!

Wonderful love story, great acting, beautiful scenery.

This movie was nomiated for Best Picture, Best Actor(Marlon Brando), Red Buttons won Best Supporting Actor. Very moving love story, Brando is an Air Force pilot who is sent to Japan to rest up during the Korean War. He meets a Japanese actress (who hates Americans) and falls in love. The background is beautiful, some big stars had roles in this film. Brando is wonderful, as well as his co-stars.

Stop Complaining

This concert was a love fest between audience and performer(s), but I was disappointed in the DVD. Only after I printed out the lyrics (from the internet) was I able to understand what he was saying, even though I'd heard about half the songs before. Screaming and mumbling, often seemingly intoxicated, he gets by on charisma rather than getting a message across. It will be a long time, if ever, before I play this DVD again.

I Love Lucy - Season One (Vol. 6) - movie DVD cover picture
I love Lucy needs to have Complete Season on DVD

The sixth volume of I Love Lucy's first season features episodes 20-23, which are all favorites of mine, especially "The Young Fans." Although, like many other people, I wish they would release season-by-season DVDs, this is still a must have collection. Lucy's brand of humor and physical gags transcends time and it shows on this set.
"The Young Fans" (aired 2/25/52)- When Peggy (Janet Waldo), a teenaged girl, develops a huge crush on Ricky, Lucy decides to have a talk with a friend of Peggy's named Arthur (Richard Crenna), in hopes that the two will get interested in each other. The plan backfires and the boy becomes infatuated with Lucy. The Ricardos then decide to dress up as ninety-year-olds, hoping to diminish the love-struck teenagers' crushes.
"New Neighbors" (aired 3/3/52)- Lucy and Ethel are dying to check out the new neighbors' apartment, but Ricky forbids her to set a foot in the O'Brien's place. Of course, that doesn't stop Lucy from sneaking in on her hands and knees. When she overhears the couple rehearsing for a play, she assumes they're planning to take over the government.
"Fred and Ethel Fight" (aired 3/10/52)- While trying to patch things up between the Mertzes after they've had a fight (Fred: "She said my mother looks like a weasel!" Lucy: "Ethel... apologize!" Ethel: "I'm sorry your mother looks like a weasel."), Lucy and Ricky begin fighting over who apologized first in their last argument.
"The Mustache" (aired 3/17/52)- Ricky has been growing a mustache for a movie he wants to audition for, but Lucy hates it. To make him shave, she borrows a fake beard from Fred and puts it on with what she thinks is spirit gum. When Ricky finally breaks down and shaves, Lucy tries to take her beard off and then realizes it's been glued on with Bulldog cement!

Scooby grows up...finally

This is a great movie! Forget the old Scooby Doo cartoons from long ago. Too dull, too kiddie, too much the same. It's always the real estate agent who's the bad guy...and we wholeheartedly agree with that. ;)

What we really like: The cats! They get all the special treatment and stick their tongues out at Scooby. We love that. The peppers! They're really, really, REALLY hot! We love that. Daphne & Fred! They're almost an item here. We love that.

Anyway, we're two adults, with zero children. I wouldn't let kids watch this. It does have very realistically scarey and gruesome elements, even though it's animated.

Even though we watch this quite often (but don't tell anybody), I must admit I've never seen the entire movie to its ending, but hubby has told me the scoob...I mean the scoop on how it ends.

Very fun & funny movie for adults.

Other equally great Scoobys: "Scooby and the Witch's Ghost" and "Scooby and the Alien Invaders." Both are way cool, for adults only.

It's a satire, but its creators also love what they tease

This movie pokes at fairytale plot conventions, but does so lovingly, and shows everything that makes us fall in love with these stories in the first place. It's warm and funny, and never before was over-the-top melodrama such a blessing.

About Grace, Glory and Goodness

Some might say "Babette's Feast" symbolically begins when Babette plans to make a meal only princes have enjoyed before.

The story, and its subsequent message of grace and glory, truly begins when Babette is received by two middle-aged women with nothing to offer but their home. Babette has nothing to give that they want, and so the relationship grows from this tiny movement of mutual grace.

Babette, an acclaimed chef, needs to hide for political reasons. She is introduced to sisters Martine and Filippa by way of a letter from a mutual friend. As they hire her with no promise of payment, Babette offers to cook for the sisters who know nothing of Babette's reputation in the kitchen. More than a "Stone Soup" chicanerist, she has the ability to do much with little. Humbly, she lets the sisters teach her to make potato soup. Esculent in every way a potato soup could be, the meal convinces the sisters they have made the right move.

Based on a story by Isak Dinesen (author of "Out of Africa") found in her collection, "Anecdotes of Destiny," it is not a story about the clich?d sensual delights of food, as found in lesser films such as "Chocolat." It is about the grace of being humble, of serving, and of enjoying both the simple and grand things of God. Whether making potato soup or quail in vol-au-vents, Babette always is thankful and diligent to do her best.

When Babette wins the lottery, she decides to make a meal as thanks to the town. She orders delicacies unheard of, and asks the community to help prepare the feast. Skepticism dies down as her neighbors sample morsels, and a new life comes to the village. This is where the comparisons to "Chocolat" begin and end, as Babette's only desire is to lift the spirits of the town she has been so much blessed by.

The long table of near-gluttonous dining is memorable. It far exceeds any American Thanksgiving dinner cornucopia overflow, yet is as thankful. So much of the movie culminates then, and the movie satisfies the deepest hunger for a tasty conclusion.

Finding a layer by which to appreciate "Babette's Feast" is just a matter of watching. For Christians, you will find a subtext of understanding simplicity vs displaying gifts from God. For foodies, you will watch a dream meal presented as Julia Child herself never imagined. For cinematography buffs, you will see a French village shot in intimate detail, so as if you could smell the door frame wood after the rain.

Attend to your senses and sensibilities and order up a copy of "Babette's Feast."
