The Calling comes to Smallville

I first heard a brief part of this song on the WB's hit show Smallville. I really like it. It took me about 3 weeks to track it down....I could not find the actual title of the song. The song is used in the first season, and used very well I might add, when Clark return a very special necklace to his secret love Lana Lang, then turns and walks away without her knowing it was he who returned the lost necklace. I highly recommend this album and I continue to listen for more from The Calling

There isn't one that sucks, This is probably the one that I least like of the whole series besides HAlloween 3, and I do like Halloween 3. It still deserves 5 stars +.

Hawaiian Dreams / WAVES: Virtual Vacations for relaxation - movie DVD cover picture

This DVD has been virtual bliss for me, here in NY. It's been a wonderful gift to be able to escape and enjoy the Hawaiian waves and sunsets. It's natural bliss. If you're expecting a quick music montage of Hawaii's beauty, this is NOT your video. However, if you really want to relax and experience Hawaii's natural beauty - virtually - this is it!
All six islands are captured in their own unique ten minute segment. Spend a few minutes with each non moving, non zooming shot, just sitting there. Listening to the waves, and letting your mind wander... Without quick 'Hollywood' editing, you are invited into the shot to relax and admire mother nature's rhythm and flow. Each segment consists of 5 shots lasting a few minutes each, capturing a complete day ending with a marvelous sunset. It truly is a 'mindmassage' meant for you to just relax, do nothing, and be! (I have been so relaxed that I have drifted off to sleep. That's really a blessing considering everything.)
Much more soothing than a fishtank or fireplace, you'll be gratefully transported to a far off land of peace and beauty. Play your favorite CD: Enya, Pure moods, smooth jazz, whatever?! for a completely different - but still lovely - experience. Share this wonderful gift with your friends and family. They'll thank you for it.

Early Sting and Jazz or is it Rock

I just finished watching this DVD. This is great early Sting, taking a risk; Post Police. I really enjoyed the music, from a cast of excellent musicians. This is a documentary, so there are interviews over some (not all) of the music. Within the 25 chapters, there are maybe 12 full concert songs. The rest is rehearsal, with breaks in songs and interviews. Even a few of the concert songs, are split with rehearsal footage. There is the option in the special features to set your favorite song list that I have not tried yet.

The transfer to DVD is superior in widescreen. The .1 bass is great. The 5.1 surround sound is good, but it does not have the obvious separation of the instruments - like a Sax sound from the surround speakers only (As in the Sting DTS DVD music discs).

Overall, this is Sting in the early years and well worth the price of admission.

An early Oscar contender for direction and acting?

I can't exactly say you'll ENJOY the film; in the current political environment, it will give you a good solid case of the heebie-jeebies. But this is not one of those remakes that re-hashes the original. Demme's "Manchurian Candidate" brings the original, screaming and fearful, into the current election year.

Jonathan Demme's movie remake of the 1950s film seems to take place almost inside its characters' heads; shot after shot is a tight, claustrophic close-up of his actors' faces.

Fortunately, Demme's whole cast is so gifted that even thoughts the characters can't express appear, broadcast, on their faces: the face of Major Bennett Marco (Denzel Washington) is a mass of tics barely held in place like a net by the thinest layer of military discipline; the face of Senator Shaw (Meryl Streep) is all control - except her eyes, which dart about like nervous goldfish, betraying her paranoia.

Although Streep turns in one of her strongest performances ever (which is saying a lot in my book), Denzel is her equal; these star turns are supported by Jon Voight and other standouts in much smaller parts. (There is one fellow who plays a doctor specializing in brainwashing who is so creepy I seem to have forgotten his name on purpose. Maybe it was brainwashed out of me.)

Go see it. Go see it. Go see it.

What a classic.

Okay, I saw this flick several years ago with a group of friends. It was like two in the morning and we were rounding out an all night camp-fest. This one was the last on the list and it had been my pick. Well, this one has everything: A sexually confused lead, two gay dads, the quiet, sweet looking girl who gets picked on way too much, her profanity spouting cousin, a fat child molester boiled alive (too funny for words), death via beehive on a toilet seat(!), the bullies clad in 80's metal band t-shirts, the cigar chomping camp manager, the jewish muscle man with a heart of gold, the psychotic aunt, the cop who shows up twice (first with a real mustache, later with a "black tape" mustache), an arrow through the throat, death via curling iron, the list goes on and on. Another thing, I fell head-over-heels in love with Felissa Rose. Whatever happened to her? This is a GREAT film to watch with a group of friends. There are plenty of things to laugh at and the ending is something to be reckoned with.

Don Williams DVD Hits Collection Vol #1

It was just like being at one of his shows. The lighting and sound are just like you are sitting near the stage. The songs are some of my favorites, but would liked to have had a a few others included.50 min. is not enough, but his real shows aren't hours long either.I'll buy Vol.#2 when it comes out.The music vidro on the end is different for him.

Laugh, Laugh Laugh

Why can't funny movies like this be appreciated instead of downgraded? This is a soap opera set in a soap opera, and better than any soap opera written. Obviously it's a spoof of soap operas and is well written and acted. Sure the acting is over the top but it's a spoof. Sally Fields is great as a Susan Lucci character. Kevin Kline is really over the top. Look closely as Teri Hatcher plays one of her first roles as a bit nurse in the soap opera with one great line directed at Kevin Kline.
It reminds you of another great soap opera spoof, Tootsie which is also one of my favorites. That was more of a love story where this is written for pure laughs and is very successful.

Excellent movie

So was the remake, for a counterpoint to this movie see Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrik. Each movie illustrates how removing free will is truly a horrific undertaking.
