Man my DVD's arrived yesterday. I got the limited edition with two dvd's and a cd. The package is killer. You pull it out and it folds out to an inverted cross. Then the real good stuff is on the first dvd. It has a killer performance from the Wacken festival 2001 and another killer performance from Stuttgart, Germany 2001 as well. Great sound and picture!!!! Then it has them partying and other clips from the studio and from around the world. Dvd two has two older performances from 1997 and 1998. Even more to love!

This is the rare instance where the director's post-release tinkering has improved what was already a fantastic film. Watching the "Untitled" cut (Director Cameron Crowe had such difficulty coming up with a title he almost released the film as "Untitled") is like discovering long-lost chapters to your favorite book, or hearing outtakes from your favorite band. The additional scenes bring viewers further into both the hero's home life and the surreal life on the road of a touring rock band. The original cut of the movie is included in the set, but why anyone would want to see it after seeing this film in the longer form is beyond me.
And the extras ... simply the best on a DVD I've ever come across. The commentary with Crowe and his mother is at turns insightful, touching and hilarious. The part where they discuss whether Crowe lost his virginity the same way his alter ego on screen did is worth the price of admission alone. The deleted scenes include one that invites the viewer to cue up "Stairway to Heaven" since that was supposed to be the soundtrack for the scene, but the rights was unavailable. The satisfaction of seeing the characters on screen react to your dubbing is incredible. And there's a bonus CD of songs by "Stillwater," the faux band in the film. The songs are a great pastiche of 70s rock that heighten the believability of the film. You really think you're listening to a great undiscovered band from the time.
As for the movie itself, the original film deservedly won an Oscar for best original screenplay and should have won more. Had more of Kate Hudson's performance as "band aid" Penny Lane been in the movie, she would have an Oscar today. Billy Crudup perfectly personifies both the innocence and the arrogance '70s rockers exuded, while Patrick Fugit's performance captures the uncool kid yearning to be cool we all were at that age.
Put simply, if you even just mildly enjoyed "Almost Famous," you owe it to yourself to give this a spin. It's everything about the movie you liked, raised to a higher level.

The "Executive Producer's" Thoughts

This is a really great prison film that truly shows what really goes on inside those dark prison walls across the US. The casting and storyline made the film. We were lucky to recruit incredible Eric Roberts,Martin Cove,Matthew Ansara and introducing our Producer, Tommy Lee Thomas who stars and of course, moi as "Jeanette" co-starring with Eric Roberts who plays Officer Hopkins. Definitely rent, buy and let it sweep you off into the world of action and intrigue............

Pixar Pixar Pixar!!!

The animation is incredible. The quality of the DVD transfer is incredible. No problems there. However, beneath the gloss it just isn't that good a movie. The story is weak and often makes little sense, the characters are 'flat', the music is unmemorable, and it just isn't that funny. Also, the Disney saccharine combined with the violence of the storyline leaves a disagreeable taste, in my view. In short, "Antz" is a much better and funnier movie. Watch this one just to appreciate the animation.

A cool movie

People who've never been to a good trance party in England will probably not understand this movie as much (unless you're already a serious clubber from Holland, Germany...) I watched this movie at a time when I had just arrived in London not so long ago and started going out clubbing with new friends. It was perhaps one of the most mind-opening experiences I've experienced. Watching this movie again this year on DVD (husband bought it for me as a present) re-lived those memories of being a freshie in the scene back then. This movie has all the works - great scripting, great music, great plots, cute actors/actresses... its a visual experience on its own... if not it could just as well be a good romantic comedy, however you choose to see it!

Welcome to Brad Gluckman World

Wow! I love this series! I'll never forget the first time I saw this show! Please join me on a journey, while I tell you about my favorite hidden camera show.

I happen to be flipping channels, and ended up on the WB, one Thursday night, about 9 p.m. I saw Jamie Kennedy introducing a segment. He was explaining about a new rapper sensation, named Brad Gluckman. I was distracted, temporarily, by my young newborn son. I began watching the segment, laughing my head off, and thinking Brad Gluckman was so funny. Who was this guy? It wasn't until the end of the segment, and Jamie made the reveal, that I realized Jamie Kennedy and Brad Gluckman were one and the same. And I realized at that moment that I had found my new favorite Hidden Camera show!

After that I was hooked every Thursday. I even converted some of my relatives and friends over to the Jamie Kennedy addiction. I then began taping every show I could find. Of course, I had a load of VHS tapes, after this.

When the DVD was announced, I knew that my prayers had been answered. I reserved this immediately, and bought it on launch day. Now I can watch and rewatch my favorite episodes over and over again.

Some of my favorite episodes:

1) Jamie pretends to be a Yoga Instructor. He gets into a pickle, when some outside workers don't take kindly to his cursing at them, and enter his Yoga studio seeking justice. My favorite line: when one of the actors is confronted by a rather large, burly construction worker he states: "I'm bigger than you, and stronger than you, and more powerful. Hmmmmmm. (humming). The large man then proceeds to toss his body into a metal door like a ragdoll. (No, he was not hurt, he was a stuntman.)

2) Spring Break in Florida, and Jamie dresses up as a "hot chick" who very obviously wants to hook up with an unsuspecting male spring breaker. Ohh, and its REALLY obvious Jamie is a "dude." This, despite the mark's friend's (who's in on the joke) insistence that Jamie is not a dude, and to just stick it out.

3) Jamie plays a boss, interviewing a job candidate. They are interrupted by Jamie's male boyfriend, actor A, who confronts him about his flirting with another male friend at a party. Jamie is married, and of course his wife shows up to complicate matters. The job candidate is then asked to pretend to be "friends" with Actor A. Halarity ensues.

I could go on, but I don't want to spoil the fun. I highly suggest you purchase this one.

Only complaint, would be, it would be nice to see more special materials, such as behind the scenes filming of the behind the scenes folks who make these gags works. We rarely get a chance to see their side of the story. The commentaries are nice, but Jamie sounds half asleep (which he apologizes for on Season 2 DVD's commentary, see my review.)

All in all, very well done, and supper funny. I like the outside jacket artwork and photos, and the disc covers as well.

Great job Jamie!
