Sweet & romantic classic

Ignore Maltin for once, and check out this little seen gem. Silly at first, but it gradually grows on you. Rogers plays a young run-away, desperately turning to crime to survive the streets of Paris. Basil Rathbone is the owner and operator of a rather unique school for pickpockets she unwittingly stumbles upon.
After receiving some prelimanary training on the art of theft Rogers is sent out into Paris to repay Rathbone's investment. Things get compilcated though as she is caught trying to lift a man's tie-pin on her very first day. Instead of turning her in to the police, the man comissions her to make a lift at a high society ball. Her mark turns out to be a handsome French Diplomat, and the plot then follows their various misadventures as they fight, argue, and fall in love.
Jean Pierre, playing the diplomat, has great chemistry with Rogers, and we get to see the great Basil Rathbone as head master at a school for pickpockets. The plot manages to stay surprising, and the dialogue is above average. Rogers (in a rare non-dancing role) is very charming and handles the comedy well. All in all, a well made film perfect for old-movie lovers. B+

The Big Lebowski

You're either going to love it or hate it!
I won't even try to describe the plot, because its really not that important. The movie is about a couple of incredibly funny characters brought to life by Jeff Bridges and John Goodman, and their love/hate relationship. "The Dude", played by Jeff Bridges rides an emotional rollercoaster of events, all brought about by a thug urinating on his rug in a case of mistaken identity. Egged on by his friend Walter (John Goodman) the Dude tries to recover his rug, and becomes caught up in the middle of plot which is almost impossible to follow - but somehow that just doesn't matter.
This movie is full of good laughs of all kinds from start to finish. The dialog, subtle gags, and ironic turns of events will have fans rolling (am I wrong?).
Bridges and Goodman are PERFECT in their respective roles. Watching the Dude's facial expressions alone is worth the cost of the movie, but it really offers so much more. If you're one of the people who love it, you'll want to watch it over and over.
If you like the other works by the Coen brothers, this is a must have DVD.

Classic! Dramatic, magical, humorous AND sentimental.

This movie has all the things a good movie should have, and a killer finale!! If you get this movie you will not be sorry. It is good for fans of the tv show but also for those who have never seen a Sailor Moon episode before, and it stands alone quite nicely. The characters are well portrayed, dealing with questions on the meaning of friendship and loneliness amidst engaging action battle scenes. This is how a movie should be done, folks!

The Best Documentary Ever Made...Now Even Better

Having owned and viewed the VHS edition of the Civil War numerous times, I didn't know if the DVD would make that much of a difference. Believe me, it does. Every frame of the film is digitally remastered and color corrected. The entire soundtrack is also digitally remastered. It's almost like seeing the film for the first time.

Concerning the film itself, for those of you who have been hiding under a rock and haven't seen it yet, this is probably the best Documentary ever made. Just get it.

The Princess Bride - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best family-friendly comedies ever!

Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, The Princess Bride should've been awarded the designation of best comedy of the year. Having built a large cult following since its 1987 release, The Princess Bride continues to entertain whole new generations of fans. Its enduring tale and timeless humor are certain to cement its place among the hallowed halls of the movie classic elites. The Princess Bride is one of the few movies that every person absolutely should see - if you miss it, then you'll miss out on an entire world of fun...

When a kindly old grandfather (Peter Falk) reads a story to his grandson (Fred Savage), his grandson is in for the story of a lifetime... The Princess Bride follows the story of the beautiful maiden, Buttercup (Robin Wright), who falls in love with a poor stable boy named Westley (Cary Elwes). But the two are torn apart when Westley is captured by a band of pirates, and Buttercup is kidnapped by the evil Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon) who intends to make her his wife.

But when the Dread Pirate Roberts (who just might be Westley) arrives on the scene, he's intent on rescuing Buttercup from the clutches of the evil prince. To do so, he must overcome a series of obstacles, and he must take on the skills and strength of a master swordsman, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and a massive giant, Fezzik (Andre the Giant). When the two men find out that the Dread Pirate Roberts is more than a match for their combined skills, they join him in his noble effort to rescue the princess bride, Buttercup. But Prince Humperdinck and his evil henchman (including a six-fingered man who may have killed Inigo Montoya's father) stand in their way...

The Princess Bride plays host to a number of hilarious scenes, but among the best is a sword fight which takes place between Westley and Inigo Montoya atop a large cliff. The two men trash talk to each other in rested voices while a well-choreographed fencing match takes place. It simply needs to be seen in order to enjoy the level of hilarity. In addition, the late Andre the Giant shows off his abilities as a likeable and loveable big guy with a big heart. All the various characters and their conflicts are drawn together with an original score featuring organ music that highlights the climax of each struggle. It fits nicely with the overall fantasy theme and makes The Princess Bride a better film from every perspective...

Non-stop fun and laughter from beginning to end, The Princess Bride is one of the most memorable movies you'll ever see. It's easy to become involved in the plight of the lead characters, and the exotic Middle-Age fairy tale locale makes for an always interesting setting. The Princess Bride is the perfect family movie for parents to enjoy along with their children. It's one of those rare films that's more than able to walk the thin line between adult and child humor. Because of its brilliant screenplay and unrivaled comic value, The Princess Bride is a definite must-see film...

Great Concert

This was an excellent concert. I watched it from Green Park when I was in London this summer and it was the best concert I've ever seen. Some people may complain about the "British no-names," but they obviously don't understand that all of Britian are huge fans of the Coors, Atomic Kitten, Will Young, etc. Just remember when buying, this concert was for the people of the UK.

REAL

When I first check the summary on the back cover of this DVD casing, I'd figured, "Aw, man. Not another movie about drug dealers at the projects", but after watching PAID IN FULL, there was more to this movie than from my previous expectation. This movie was based on a true story, and it was depicit on that true nature pretty well. It was about a typical brotha' narratin' his life as a low-down homeboy named Ace working at a low-down dry-cleaner shop in the mid-80s, and later he decides to walk down the road of "drug-dealership"; coincidentely, he follows the road the way Al Pacino does in SCARFACE. He starts his "business" cheap for the "consumers", hire peeps to control marketing order in the streets, so "everybody can eat" and Ace can bring love and respect for the people on the streets and his family and friends, while at the same, keeping his business discreet from 'the man'. Sadly, as good as how he keep everything organized for the good of his fellowship, he hasn't a clue to the hardship and sacrifices he's going to face as he walks down this easy road.
As recyclable and semi-predictable this movie can be, PAID IN FULL is deep, and it does wonders on showing the experience on a drug dealer's life. For a company that makes Jay-Z LPs, Roc-a-fella did a good job making this movie, and for brining a good selection of cast, not to mentions collaboratin' few of the rappers like Cam-ron and Doug E. Fresh. Wood Harris did good with his narration and portrayin' Ace, but I got to give it up to Mekhi Phifer. He show a lot of passion with his role showing how much he supports his friends and his younger brother hoping his bro' would be a better person in the future, and for that, I'd say his acting was very good. It's not wonderful, but he did a pretty strong performance. The music score is good as well, but strangely, in one certain scene, the movie's playing a Phil Collins's song in the background. Why did they even put that song in a movie like this, I'm not so sure.
I would've wanted more from this movie after watching it, but the extras in this DVD are lacking, since it only has a commentary and trailers for other films. To 'da point, PAID IN FULL isn't gonna put a gunshot through my chest and into my heart(in a positive remark), it isn't provoking enough to see this different than any other films of the same theme, but with its above-par actors and true-to-life nature of 80s uptown, this movie has paid in full and served me well to enjoy it.
