Surprisingly faithful adaption of the book by A. Maclean

WHERE EAGLES DARE is a surprisingly faithful adaptation of the book of the same name by popular action/suspense novelist Alistair Maclean.
The premis for the movie is this...or at least it appears to be this at the outset...an American general with heavy responsibilities for planning D-Day is shot down over Germany. British military intelligence (MI6) decides to send in a top-notch team of agents to help him escape from the Schloss Adler -- a seemingly impregnable castle fortress housing the region's German intelligence collective. A nearby base also houses the training center for the German army's Alpinekorps. The British team consists of six British agents, and one American (and one woman who is secretly brought along).
Richard Burton plays Smith, the leader of the British group, and Clint Eastwood plays Shaffer, the only American who goes along.
The film adaptation is extremely faithful, even to using dialogue directly from the pages of Maclean's book. There are a few differences though...for one, the character of Shaffer is much more stoic in the film than in the book, and there is no mention of budding romance between Shaffer and Heidi -- you'll meet her later on in the movie. Burton and Eastwood's characters in the movie kill a lot more people than they do in the book. The book also explains better how and why they do what they do.
I must say, though, that I thoroughly enjoy this movie. I particularly enjoy the scene where Smith and Shaffer meet the American general and the Germans interrogating him -- after that you won't know who or what to believe. It's great suspense and intruige.
Burton and Eastwood complement each other well in this movie, and carry it along.
Great story telling.
5 stars.

Outta Sight!

This is not only one of the best recent animated films I've seen, but is actually an epic piece of cinema. The visuals are stunning, spectacular, highly imaginative, whatever adjectives one can drum up!
It's the singlemost imaginative creative endeavor onscreen that I've seen in the past five years. If you're a fan of THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN or TIME BANDITS, you're going to love this movie. It's in the same spirit, but also employs all the state of the art CGI effects and pixel animation innovations that have brought new standards to the industry.
The story is actually involving, and the voice overs are masterfully done. The animation is full '60s Trip level. Do yourself and your family a favor and make this one a part of your permanent collection! This is truly artful animation of the highest order.

Lara really blows us away

This girl is just awesome. Angelina Jolie was made to play Lara Croft. This movei is filled with everything Lara. More shots of the Manor. She's also traveling a lot more. Like Africa and Beijing. Also this story is based on something really. Like Pandora's box. Lara is then partnered up with what I call, the hotness. Terry Sheriden. This movie is really great. A lot better then the first ine, there's a lot more action in this one and what I think more story. I also heard Angelina Jolie signed a contract saying she will do more Tomb Raider movies. I bet when they have a Tomb Raider three, I'll be first to buy the ticket.

Lynda Carter (Invisible) Jets to stardom

If only ABC had re-newed this version of Wonder Woman, we would not have been subjected to CBS' version of Wonder Woman running after bad guys wearing turtle-necks and plaid sport-jackets like every other 70s action yarn.

Lynda Carter went from nowheresville to superstardom in a twirl and a flash. One of the DVD-extras include a WW Retrospective almost 30 years since this premiered and Ms. Carter reveals that Executive Producer Douglas Cramer had to fight "ABC suits" to let her don the magic belt and golden lasso. Good call, Doug.

ABC was scared off by a no-name at the time to carry one a one-woman, hour-long adventure show. Who heard of a one-woman show in 1975? Where were the superhero leading ladies? They were all one-man shows (Six Million Dollar Man, Vegas, Hawaii Five-O, Rockford Files, etc). Carter answered the call, rookie-status and all.

This 13-episode 1st season of Wonder Woman sticks truer to its comic book origins than the version we later saw on CBS (who the heck is Joe Atkinson in Wonder Woman-lore?!). These episodes are set against the backdrop of World War II and an endless battle against the Nazi's.

Great guest starts like Christine Belford, Lynda Day George, Tim O'Connor, newcomer Debra Winger, John Saxon, Roy Rogers, Robert Reed, Dick Van Patten & Robert Hays led the way of likeable performances from good guys and bad.

Kudos to Lyle Waggoner who at a time of nothing but leading men, was able & willing to play "second-fiddle" to a heroine. His willingness to bite into the role sold Steve Trevor.

Speaking of Mr. Waggoner, that was about the only thing missing from the DVD-package. There were a few interviews, and Carter & Cramer gave a running commentary on the pilot, but where were interviews with Waggoner?

One negative which maybe can be revised in future packaging is the "Feminum Mystique" 2-part episode needs a disc-flip to catch both parts. Bad call.

Clue - movie DVD cover picture
Pathetically stupid, but funny

The movie "Clue" is based on the popular board game about six people who get invited to the Boddy mansion. The movie starts off simple enough: The six suspects arrive, the butler introduces himself, they all sit down to dinner, and you're given the impression that this is going to be a serious Agatha Christie-type murder mystery. There's suspenseful background music, tension is built up, and you can't wait to see when the murder's going to take place. Then Mr. Boddy shows up. After explaining to everyone why he invited them all there, the official "great turning point" occurs. After the first murder, Clue little by little transforms itself from what appears to be the usual stock murder mystery into one of the wittiest, funniest dark comedies ever to be made in the history of cinema.
The all-star cast is a spectacle in and of itself, the one-liners are some of the most memorable you'll ever hear in any movie, Tim Curry steals the show as Wadsworth the butler who "buttles", everything moves at a steady pace, and there's a fairly large body count. There are so many little twists, turns, gags, ambiguous jokes, and unexpected surprises in this film, that you will find yourself watching it over and over again just to see what you missed. And not just that..you'll be rewatching it because, well, it's just a darn good movie.
I have probably literally seen Clue about 40-50 times so far and I never get tired of it. I don't just like watching it - I like introducing people to it too. Each time I watch it with someone who hasn't seen it, watching their eyes light up at this spectacular achievment of a movie is like watching it again for the first time. But be warned: If you're looking for "Gone With The Wind" or "Citizen Kane" (good movies in their own right), don't buy or rent this movie. If you're looking for a silly, hilarious, dark, and original popcorn and soda murder mystery comedy - The kind of movie where you can just kick back, turn your brain off and enjoy the sheer ridiculousness of it all, Clue is the movie for you.
