Summer is here, lets get it on...

It is summer in Mexico and two irresponsible young men have been left at home by their girlfriends. On their free time they enjoy drugs, sex, and parties. At a wedding the two young men meet an older attractive women whom they try to impress by telling her about a beach called Heaven's Mouth. They end up going on a road trip with her and throughout the trip the two young men begin to face the reality of their lives. Y Tu Mam? Tambi?n is a very interesting "coming to age" film that deals with the issues of growing up and finding a spot in existence while having to deal with daily issues. The cinematic experience is an astonishing journey through dangers and choices.

can't get enough of it...

OK, I'm a huge fan of this movie. The movie itself is interesting and funny. I am the moderator and creator of the Yahoo Group devoted to Ken Marino (he plays Officer Russotelli in this movie), so it is not like I WANT to say anything negative about this movie. But, I feel completely ripped off and no one else reviewed the DVD version yet...so I feel morally obligated to.
I got my DVD 2 days ago and I am sooooo annoyed! The movie itself seems to play OK (not the best quality I've ever seen but it's OK) but the extras (which is why people generally buy the DVD in the first place) are TERRIBLE!! I will get to the problems in a moment. I first want to tell you that on my Yahoo Group, I did a post asking if anyone else had gotten this DVD. If so, how were their extras? I got some responses and all said that the extra features were as bad as mine, so my complaints are not isolated to my DVD. OK, here are the issues:
A. The trailer had no sound at all.B. The picture quality of the Deleted Scenes was so bad, that you could barely watch it...it had all those digital looking squares. It was worse than watching a 5th generation VHS tape (taped on SLP mode!). No joke.C. The deleted scenes froze up AND the sound quality was ATROCIOUS! Every other word was muted (it was all choppy, so you couldn't follow the dialog.)D. Not to be picky but I'm mad, so I'm telling it all. For what they are charging for this DVD, the case could have been at least somewhat decent quality. I thought all DVD cases were generally the same but this is junk...AND, the picture on the front cover is all blurry and looks like it was printed on a (bad) color printer. These people have some nerve putting out such an inferior product.
I thought venting would make me feel better, but it didn't. Only a refund at this point would.

T. Rex : Restored and Remastered beautifully

If you looked at this dvd, you probably know that T.Rex was a great band. This video proves it! After seeing this concert video, no one can ever again say that their success was all because of their good looks, and they couldn't back it up with good playing. This was recorded live and with this restored film version you can hear and see every nuance of the music. Better than just that this video contains unedited versions of two concerts with jam sessions and solos which feature all 4 band members. A truly great added feature is the ability to select the shots from different cameras that filmed simultaneously, and the ability to select separate audio tracks and listen to the individual performers and their instruments. Anyone who likes hard rock and wants to see a real band playing live will enjoy this video. Not for just T.Rex fans alone.

"So I was Fredo ? ...... I don't think so..."

I've never laughed so much in years. It was a film to see more than once. I disagree that this was a "mob" movie. This was a great spoof on self-help and psychotherapy in the late part of the twentieth century. It was witty and full of psychological buzz words and situations. De Niro and Crystal were both wonderful and you grow to love the mobster and to understand his view of life. I can't support him but I understand!

Apocalypse Now Redux - movie DVD cover picture
A spectacular, dark war movie

"Apocalypse Now Redux" is quite possible my favorite war movie. The acting is superb, mainly Marlon Brando and Robert Duvall. Based on a story called "The Heart of Darkness," the movie is about a Captain in the Vietnam War who is introduced in a very bad state. He's not in the jungle fighting, but he wants to be there, he misses it, and he sort of starts to break down. Then, he finally gets what he is hoping for: a mission. His mission is to go upriver into Cambodia, which is known as being particularly "hairy," and there he must hunt down a military colonel gone mad. The colonel assassinated people that he believed were double agents, and then disappeared into Cambodia. The young Captain, played exceptionally well by Martin Sheen, must hunt him down and terminate the colonel "with extreme prejudice." Along the way, he meets up with the crew of the boat that is taking him upriver, and also meets a very interesting Robert Duvall, who is a military officer that orders some men to fight, and others to surf. There are many other things that happen in the 3 hour and 22-minute-long movie. "Apocalypse Now" shows how horrible war really is, and gets to be rather intense. It is the darkest war movie that I've seen, and I definitely recommend it if you like a well-made war movie.

The Wonderful Cate

There have been very few movies in my 45 years that I have felt carried away by. This one grabs you from the opening moments. My ancestry is Engish, but I have always been bored with English history until this movie. Although this movie is not exact in it's historical content, (Walsingham did not murder Mary Queen of Scots, etc.) It does however capture the intrigue of the conspiracy against Elizabeth. I found myself not knowing who to believe or trust. I also found myself really caring about Elizabeth and her safety. This one is really a thriller.
Cate Blanchett should have won the Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Bess. I can see that most everyone here agrees. She took my breath away. Can't wait to get my own copy.

Feeling down? Pop in this movie for a good laugh!

I rented this movie on DVD for two reasons 1)It had a standard poodle in it (I have a black one myself) and 2) I liked Parker Posey from her As the World Turns days. I enjoyed the movie MUCH more than I expected. It is a great satire on Dog Shows and particularly the dog owners. After watching the movie my husband and I watched it with the commentary and enjoyed it even more after learning all the behind the scenes stuff.

The VHS version is good......

...So the DVD version will be even better!
I bought this title on VHS from the store in the Kennedy Space Centre about 7 years ago. After seeing it in the IMAX theatre in the KSC visitors centre, I just had to buy it!
Although the IMAX version played in the theatre at KSC could never be appreciated on home equipment, the DVD version should go a long way to recreating the exciting sound track that goes with it.
Definitely worth a look, along with Blue Planet and Destiny in Space
