Stan Lee presents, The Amazing Spider-man

I've got to say, this movie had it all. Special effects, good story, morals and even some good music. If you watch it you'll see what all the hype was about. I know most people aren't into superheros. Well guess what? Neither was I! I didn't want to see this movie when it came out but when I did see it, I was very impressed. Trust me, get this movie and I promise, you'll love it.

Impressive! (even if you're not an Eagle's fan!)

The other reviews have already said it: this is the most superb-sounding DVD available. I have no Eagles in my music collection and am not even that interested in their music yet:1. Attention home theatre types: the fidelity of sound in DTS mode is the finest you'll find on any DVD at this time (Feb 2002) - this is the DVD to impress your friends with how great the sound can be on your home theatre.2. The picture quality is amazingly sharp (I've been asked by friends if it was shot on HDTV - it wasn't but it looks that sharp). 3. It's assuredly composed and edited...which is much more than I can say for 99% of the concert videos out there. The cuts make sense, the angles aren't crazy or weird and the flow is excellent.4. Finally, but not least, the band sounds (and even looks) every bit as good as they did 20 some years ago. Don Henley's voice in particular is completely "there" - he hits every high note and never falters.
I'm no fan but I am completely blown away by this DVD. As far as I'm concerned it sets a standard for all other concert DVD's.

She is truely the very best female singer out there. You will not be disappointed in buying this dvd. There isn't anymore that I can say except she is the best of the best. The best male singer out there, Josh Groban, is also on this dvd, so that two thumbs up!!!!

so bad its fascinating

There are bad movies and then there are bad movies which are so bad thier fascinating to watch over and over again.Who knew Verhoven could direct such a diabolical piece of trash? Who would have thought Berkley would ever play such a part(Im sure she was trying to distance herself from her Saved By The Bell image)? This movie is fascinating in that its portrayed as a serious drama but it all comes out in a very funny way.Terrible acting all around and a truly bad script. This is the Plan 9 From Outer Space of the nineties.

Required for an anime collection

It's rare to find an excellent series of anime. While Evangelion and Trigun are great animes, there's usually something wrong with them. Whether the series is too complex, too simple, or too slow. Definately not the case with Rurouni Kenshin.
Back in the 19th century, Japan was in an era known as the Tokugawa shogunate, when a power hungry man defeated the Imperial forces and became more powerful than its Emperor. Many Japanese imperialists wanted to bring the Emperor back into power. A man named Kenshin Himura was a samurai known as Hitokiri Battousai, a deadly assassin who helped groups overthrow the government. While the imperialists succeeded, creating an era known as the Meiji Restoration, Kenshin stopped being a hitokiri after a tragedy(watch the Trust/Betrayal OVA's cause there's no way I'm spoiling that). Kenshin decides that he's not gonna kill anyone ever again and wanders around Japan for 10 years.
This is where the series starts. Kenshin runs into a woman named Kaoru, who's angry at a man calling himself Battousai and killed her father. Kenshin gets tangled in this and saves Kaoru, and so begins their friendship, with Yahiko, a young ex-pickpocket-turned-student under Kaoru's Kamiya Kasshin Style fighting and Sanosuke, a man who was once in a group that helped in the war and hates the Meiji government for trampling over his group. Also joining later on is Megumi, a talented doctor who likes to flirt with Kenshin(which ticks Kaoru right off).
This series will reach its peak with Season 2 but this is still a good series and starting point. You'll meet several memorable characters including Azume, Sazume and Aoshi, a commander of another group who's got just as much skill as Kenshin does(and one of the coolest swordsmen on the show).
Not as overtly complicated as Secret Experiment Lain or Evangelion, just as funny as Trigun and Excel Saga, and as much action as Dragon Ball Z(albeit more realistic), Rurouni Kenshin is often mentioned in people's Top 10 Animes including mine and stick around after this set, Season 2 is beyond masterpiece level.

Dostoyevsky Updated

A few generations ago, in his novel "Crime and Punishment," Fyodor Dostoyevsky posed the question: can an intelligent and sensitive person commit a murder and escape remorse? The answer he gave was "no." In Crimes and Misdemeanors, Woody Allen revisits this question from a different moral perspective. His conclusion is both chilling and convincing. (It is also unambiguous.)The premise of a godless and (therefore) morally chaotic universe had always been implicit in Mr. Allen's comedies. In this film he gets serious, presents his moral vision explicitly, and defends it brilliantly. Furthermore, in an extraordinary twist of the knife, a subplot featuring characteristic Allen humor demonstrates that absurd irony and volitional cruelty coexist amicably.Crimes and Misdemeanors is a breathtaking statement. Thus far, it has been woefully underappreciated.

Superb animation, Superb English voice-acting

No need to repeat the praise that has already been heaped upon this film in general. From quality of animation, to depth of story, to fantastic otherworldly atmosphere, this is a must-see for anyone even the least bit interested in cinematic animation as a whole.
What does need to be emphasized here however is that the American-English voice-acting is superb and deserves even more than the often begrudging credit it already gets. Along with other recent productions such as Cowboy Bebop The Movie or The Big O series, the English voice-acting arguably supersedes the original language in acting and direction.
Daveigh Chase inhabits the character of Chihiro perfectly, while such prominent veteran actors as David Ogden Stiers and Suzanne Pleschette disappear into their roles perfectly.
The original langauge remains available to those so inclined as to academically compare different approaches and translation changes, which is something many of us do. However, when introducing anime to new audiences one no longer need cringe when listening to subpar/amateur English voice-overs and also need no longer impose subtitles on those friends and family that understandably prefer an unmarred visual experience.

Best Ever

I think everybody knows these movies, and well they should. I grew up watching these over and over and over. I wore out my old VHS tapes. So now, glory be, they are on DVD. And what do I see in almost all the reviews? Complain. moan. B*tch. Let's see, Lucas cleaned up the films in the "special edition" In other words, you can actually see much better all the little details, instead of grainy picture. Gosh, that's such a bad thing!!! Please! And what did he add? A total of maybe a couple minutes to the movies combined. And just little things, really. A meeting with Jabba the Hut in Ep.IV, a ring around the explosion of the Death Star. Showing that Han didn't shoot Guido in cold blood... Things Lucas had always intended to have in the film. If you don't like the new scenes, you do have a fast forward button on your remote. Get over it! These movies are just about perfect, and quite possibly my very favorite ever. Thankfully on DVD where repeat viewings will be a clear as the first time. So, buy them! They are still the same movies you loved from the moment you first saw them. And to those who never have, see what you're missing out on.
