Spirit of the First

I don't get why so many people hate this movie. I'm a HUGE Lion King fan, and I think that this one fully captures the spirit of the first movie. The new characters are very well done, especially Nuka and Kovu. Some people complain of how Simba acts differently in this one. Well, he does, but if those people were OPEN-MINDED they would see that Simba is trying to act like his father, but he comes off as a jerk. This movie is great and the songs is just as good as the first one, although the music to the evil song in this one (My Lullaby) is not as good as the first (Be Prepared), the lyrics show the feelings of Ziera in a different way then you might expect. But all the other songs are beautifully done. My only suggestion to those of you who will see this movie is to watch it with an OPEN MIND, and try to read between the lines, because there you'll find something great.

Still the best

This is another one of my favorites which I decided to get on dvd after watching my taped version off tv for years. The dvd looks great and sounds great as well. If anything they could of had more extras, but with the movie being as old as it was it could have been tough to come up with any supplimental materials. None the less this is one great movie, with some absolutly amazing aerial photography, which hasn't been matched since.

Best Movie Ever Made!

This is by far the best movie ever made. Most of the military aspect is accurate and it has a very good story line.
Charlie: "What were you doing with the Mig?"Maverick: "Communicating"Charlie: "What?"Maverick: "The bird."Goose: (Holding up his middle finger) You know the finger... I hate it when that happens.
The movie is a classic and should be a part of everyone's collection.

The most fantasic story, made into the MOST FANTASTIC FILM!

In my opinion, a rather biased one, being both a fan of Tolkien's work and of Elijah Wood, 'The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring' is one of the classics. It certainly deserves every bit of praise it gets. To tell the truth, I was a bit worried; films never live up to the books, do they? Peter J. proved me wrong along with all the cast. I was really impressed, each of the five or six times I've seen it...Anyone who hasn't seen this film is really missing something. Like I said, it's a classic, with all the care and love put into the scripting, directing, acting and filming that Tolkien put into writing it in the first place, along with a whole lot of skill and talent all round, it's a cinematic masterpiece and probably the height of Peter J's career, as sadly he has said he wouldn't attempt such a big project again. Make the most of it...

Brilliant Satire through Puppetry

They would have to hit you with a shovel to be anymore blatant. This movie lampoons the ridiculousness on BOTH sides of the politcal spectrum... Its definitely NOT pro-Right and decidedly not favorable to the far Left.

Its anti-Idiot...cause the world is full of 'em.

Also, setting any politcal agenda aside, this movie is worth price of admission for the songs alone.

Pure Genius!

Chilling Horror Classic

I'm reviewing the VHS edition, but from reading reviews on the excellent DVD extras, I'll probably want that edition as well.

THE SHINING is pure and simple HORROR at its creepy best. We are easily folded into the story from the beginning, and we hang on till the shattering ending.

Jack and Wendy Torrance settle in as caretakes at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado over the winter; their son, a kind of spooky fellow with some unearthly abilities himself, spends time riding his bike down the hotel corridors and talking to his imaginary friend, Tony. He speaks in a different voice at times, and has visions of the young children who were murdered at the Overhook many years ago.

Jack is a writer who grows increasingly frustrated with his wife, the claustrophobic nature of the hotel, and the writer's block that has such a strong grip on him that he literally spends hours typing the same sentence maniacally on his old fashioned typewriter.

As we learn more about the history of the hotel, and weird visions begin occuring, like Jack having a drink at the bar (which is really compeltely barron of any alcohol) and talking with the barkeep, we begin to see just how deep into dementia this man is spiraling.

Stephen King can take any road he wants with horror and still manage to keep the reader gasping for breath by the end. We never lose sight of Jack's mounting rage, though he appears at time to be mellow and easy-going. Wendy, though a devoted wife, is cooky and creepy in her own right, and despite rooting for her survival at the end, we almost want to shake some sense into her to leave the hotel way before disaster strikes.

Having never read the novel, I cannot compare or critique the similarities or differences, but I truly enjoyed Kubrick's work here and have kept THE SHINING in my video arichive for decades.

The best movies are those in which you don't expect much and then it blows you away. I've read the other reviews and all those that are five star are on target. What can I add? Some of the banter, and curse words (that are not just the f word over and over) are orginal. The pseudoscientific stream involved with seismology, and sensitivity to sound is wonderfully written. All in all a classic tongue firmly in cheek movie.

Kaze no tani no Naushika

I saw this movie way back in the original japanese, even before it was released in US/UK as that abomination "Warriors of the Wind." The dvd, which is supposed to be released on August 31, 2004, (along with the Totoro and Porco Rosso films) is the same as the original I own, but it has the dubbed version and special features added, courtesy of Disney. Much like the rest of Miyazaki Hayao's films, Nausic?a of the Valley of Wind is a breathtaking piece of art and entertainment that you will definitely enjoy.
