What a Flick!

WOW, a lot of people have already reviewed this film! It must really be popular. And by the way, thanks to Sean Ares Hirsch's review for helping me to remember this line (title)! I knew there was a really funny one in there somewhere, and I couldn't think of it, but next thing I know I'm reading your review and I saw it. There you go. Anyway, I thought this movie was great. I liked the interaction between the characters and how it really was kind of a "girl power" movie. If you want an unconventional spin on a traditional fairy tale, Ever After is the way to go.

Radiohead Are The Geniuses Of Music

Radiohead is the best band of all time.Genius, genius, genius! And these videos are just that.Paranoid Android - An animated man named Robin (hence the "R" on his hat) has to go through the tribulations of being a small, neglected, and therefore ordinary human being.Slightly controversial, the video features cartoon nipples and a man bloodily hacking of his own limbs with an axe, sinking into a river, and then being saved by topless mermaids.Street Spirit [Fade Out] - The best, most intriguing, most captivating, most creative, and most brilliant video ever made. It's incredible. It's entirely black and white, and begins with Thom falling off of an RV in slo-mo. Features many cool slo-mo elements. Very interesting and suits the song well.Just - Interesting, very, very interesting. An extremely cool, creative, and mysterious video. Features a man lying down in the middle of a sidewalk and telling a crowd of people a secret to an interesting result. No Surprises - I'm not too fond of this video. It's quite boring. It has Thom wearing an astronaut helmet that fills up with water. He then holds his breath for about a minute. I can't imagine how scary it would be to be Thom doing that.High and Dry - I've grown quite fond of this video. Very spy/secret agentish. Features many people (including the band) in a restaurant. A man and a woman in a car drive away and their car blows up. You have to see this one.Karma Police - Very, very interesting. I find myself saying that alot about Radiohead videos. Features a car driving chasing a man running down the road, and then the man setting the car on fire.Fake Plastic Trees - A great song, an okay video. Features Thom posing as a child and sitting in a shopping cart.
All in all, very much worth any Radiohead fan's money.Excellent DVD.

One of my All-Time favorites!

I saw this movie a few years ago, when I was a police officer, and I loved it. The fact that it's based on true story made it that much more interesting to me. When I finally found it for sale, I bought it immediately! I don't know how many times I've seen this movie but each time is just as good as the first! I was pleasantly surprised to see Linda Fiorentino in a nude sex scene and Michael Madson playing a great bad guy part. The whole thing is brought together with a wonderful performance by Charlie Sheen (as he usually does)

A wild mix of Mr. Rogers, The Wizard of Oz and MTV

A must have for any DVD library, this groundbreaking, innovative series, Pee-wee's Playhouse, was created and produced by the genius of Paul Reubens who also stars as pop culture icon, Pee-wee Herman. Pee-wee's Playhouse is marked by a campy sensibility and frequent use of double entendre, engaging viewers of all ages.

Incorporating clips from vintage cartoons, 3-D animation, hand puppets, marionettes, and a cast of endearingly eccentric memorable characters, Pee-wee's Playhouse is non-stop fun that might best be described as a wild mix of Mr. Rogers, The Wizard of Oz and MTV. Each episode Pee-wee Herman welcomes you into his kaleidoscope, fantasy clubhouse for adventure through a labyrinth of zany characters and sci-fi inventions. Music for the shows was provided by cutting edge artists such as Mark Mothersbaugh, Todd Rundgren, Danny Elfman, and Van Dyke Parks.

This set of DVD releases divides all 5 years (45 episodes) of the Playhouse into 2 affordable box sets (which includes 8 lost episodes) in all their side splitting hilarity sparkling in never before seen DVD clarity.

Your In The Army Now!

Made for peanuts, BUCK PRIVATES was a tremendous hit for Universal studios and firmly established Abbott and Costello as movie stars. Bud and Lou's routines are among their best; indeed, the film is really not much more than a string of burlesque routines held together by a simple plotline. "The Dice Game," "The Drill Routine," "You're 40, She's 10," and several others burlesque bits are here to keep you laughing. The romantic triangle plot is rather forgettable, although one can certainly understand why both Lee Bowman and Alan Curtis are pursuing lovely Jane Frazee. The Andrews Sisters contribute some great songs, including the immortal "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." Dated but still very entertaining, BUCK PRIVATES delivered just what the movie going public needed in 1941. And it still delivers today.

VeggieTales - Lyle the Kindly Viking - movie DVD cover picture
Just FABULOUS! This one is more like the earlier Veggies!

Our family just watched this video and it was one of the best, I think! Esther was good, but I missed the Silly Song, and the wonderful humor that has become so characteristic of Veggie Tales.
Remember when Jimmy and Jerry Gourd decided to take over the show? Well, in this episode Archibald Asparagus tries to put some class into the story - the story is "Omelet" bearing strong resemblance to "Hamlet". Adults, listen carefully - there are MANY hilarious allusions to Shakespeare in this segment!
The "Silly Song with Larry" was "Classic Song with Larry" - just as hilarious, though!
The theme of the whole video is sharing and the main story, about Lyle, a Viking who does not enjoy the pillaging and plundering that seems to be part of being a Viking. Instead, Lyle (played by Junior Asparagus) goes out and gives the small bag of loot that the others give him back to the people, along with his handmade potholders! It is very touching and very funny at the same time.
The music for this most recent Veggie video was OUTSTANDING! Songs that will definitely stick in your head. Extremely creative, very well-produced, and lots of fun. Not to mention having the lesson of the importance of sharing.
Please do not think that these Veggie Tales videos are just for kids! Indeed, children would not pick up on a lot of the humor -Big Idea has really found something that appeals to children and adults alike. The group that watched the video tonight consisted of 2 40-somethings, 2 21-year-olds, and an 18 year old. I'm eager to have some little kids over so I can watch it with them!
Please check out my other reviews of Christian books, music, and videos! King George and the Ducky was excellent as well!

Highest recommendation - very well done series!

Right off the bat, I want to say that there is blatant trickery involved here. Many people bought this series expecting a certain type of show, only to find out that it wasn't like that at all. I was one of those people. And I couldn't be happier.
The blessing and the curse of Ai Yori Aoshi is another series called "Love Hina". Many people buy AYA because of 'also recommended' links when they buy LH. The problem is that the synopsis is identical, but the two series are VERY different.
Common storyline:
When they were children, (male and female lead characters) promised to get together as adults and spend their lives together. They are separated for years, and meet again as college age adults who barely recognize each other. But due to strange circumstances, they end up in a huge house with four other women who also have an interest in (male character). Can (male character) resist all the distractions and get together with (childhood sweetheart) in the end?
I imagine two copies of this synopsis being printed and one handed to a group of writers from Baywatch and one handed to the makers of a BBC period costume drama. Then after the scripts were written, a page or two got swapped out of each finished script. At first horrified, each group read the mixed up script and decided they liked it better that way, so they left the mismatched stuff in.
So, Love Hina becomes a slapstick jigglefest with a wee bit of a love story. And Ai Yori Aoshi becomes a powerful, deeply moving romance. (...)
And one last comparison and I'll let LH rest (because that's a review on its own)... in LH they make no great effort at backstory - we're barely into the first episode when they start introducing the 'other' female characters - but in AYA, they spend the first 4 episodes purely on developing the romantic relationship and (very important to the plot) history of the two lead characters. As a result, in LH, I found that I considered at least two of the other females to be a better match for the guy (in fact, found myself hoping that he would trade up in the sequel. [Shrug] no such luck...). But in AYA, there was never any doubt that there was only one romance, despite whatever else was going on.
AYA is visually stunning - they often go the extra mile in making lush, scenic backgrounds and highly detailed artwork. The background music is consistently on cue with the action, actually enhancing rather than distracting from the story.
As a certified large hairy guy, I am not often found having a strong emotional reaction to a movie, but at least twice watching this I had tears in my eyes.
As a final note, I have to point out that throughout the show, the directors most often went for simple and subtle rather than flashing-neon-sign-hey-lookee-here mode, and that was greatly to their benefit. I will remember the moment in the train station where Aoi first shyly rests one hand, then the other, on Karou's shoulder while he is fixing her sandal long, long after the clich?d lovers-gazing-into-each-other's-eyes-at- sunset thrust upon us by so many other movies.
Pros: Breaks most of the stereotypes of the genre and actually has a REAL romance - and doesn't insult the intelligence of the viewer while doing it. Amazingly, the other females in the story actually have well-explained reasons for falling for Karou, and instead of cluttering up the story, actually enhances the character development.
Cons: Well, folks, it's an anime. (...) On the other hand, every adult female (Other than Aoi's mother, who escapes jiggle duty due to her indeterminate advanced age) is definitely female in profile view...

My "Best movie"

There are few movies that I can watch more than once. This is one movie you MUST watch more than once. In addition to the enjoyment of the acting, the story is convoluted enough that you don't understand all of it the first time. And even after you understand all the relationships and motives of the characters, the movie is a joy to watch for the acting. Albert Finney, Jon Turturro, Jon Polito, Gabriel Byrne, and Marcia Gay Harden give outstanding performances. The movie is violent and this may but off some people. But if you can get past this, it's a terrific accomplishment. And if you like this one, see Sayles' Matewan.
