Taking Lives - Director's Cut (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Shocked at the negative reviews.

I bought this movie used a very long time ago but refrained from watching it because I thought it would be another version of "Murder By Numbers" with Sandra Bullock or perhaps even worse. It took me a year but I finally decided to watch it and I'm glad I did.
This is very much a mystery movie but unlike many mysteries it has a very good plot and the pieces fit together very nicely. The characters are realistic and the plot twists are believable and yet still shocking.
I won't go into detail since I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it yet but I just wanted to write something since I don't think it's fair that so many people are bashing this movie.
Not many scary movies actually scare me. In fact, the only movie I can think off hand that frightened me was the American version of The Ring.

Classic Japanese Giant Monster Movie

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, for all of its updating of the genre of kaiju eiga (Japanese Giant Monster movies) with its thrilling special effects, moving story and titantic monster battles, is really an homage to the golden era of these films, the 1960's. GMK is easily the best Godzilla in decades, as it connects modern social commentary with ancient myth in the form of the Yamato Seishu, the Ancient Guardian Beasts of Japan, summoned forth to fight Godzilla, now driven by the souls of the victims of the Pacific War. Horror and humor, irony and great spectacle, so characteristic of this type of film, make GMK one of the best entires in the Godzilla series. Director Shusuke Kaneko, who helmed the Gamera trilogy of the mid-to-late 90's, taking the genre to new heights, brings his unique vision and style of story telling to GMK. Do not expect to find a cheesy monster movie here with unconvincing effects and no plot. GMK will arrest your imagination and take you somewhere you have not been.
This is a stunning giant monster film, the best in the series after the original 1954 Gojira. If you are new to the world of kaiju films, this is an excellent place to start.
Get this DVD, and watch how the great battles unfold and the fate of Japan hangs in the balance.

Freddy vs. Jason (New Line Platinum Series) - movie DVD cover picture
Highly enjoyable! Freddy is the best!

Wow! What a movie! I'm a BIG fan of the Nightmare series. When I heard that after 9 years off the big-screen (since 1994's Wes Craven's New Nightmare), Robert Englund's infamous Krueger was returning, I was so excited! I have never seen any of the Friday the 13th movies, but I knew the background of the series.
OK, here we go:
Two of history's most feared legends (one from the real world and one from the dream world) are coming together to battle to the DEATH (ha ha, yeah right), but first we have to go through a process here. Everyone has forgotten about Freddy, so in return, that makes him powerless. He takes the form of Jason's mother and tells Jason (in a dream, of course) to live and kill again. Jason, believing it is really his long-dead mother, rises up and goes to Elm Street (being where Freddy tells him to go). Hopefully, this will activate everyone's fear again (believing that it is Freddy making the killings and not Jason) and Freddy will be reborn.
Ok, I won't go any further than that.
Freddy vs. Jason is a must-see movie, especially for the fans that have been anticipating its release.
Oh, yes. If your absolutely DYING to own it (I've already seen it twice at the theater), its scheduled DVD release date is in December!! Hopefully it won't change and run into next year. I hope this information was helpful!
Clever, entertaining, gruesome, action-packed, thrilling--my favorite movie of the year!!!

Kill Bill, Volume 1 - movie DVD cover picture
Extremely fun and sexy movie!

Crazy, hilarious, sexy, action-packed, and even artistic!! This describes Kill Bill vol.1 . Pretty much devoid of gentler emotions (save that for volume 2, which is also excellent, but for different reasons), this movie is just a feast for the eyes! Two hours of non-stop action and fun, what more do theater-goers or Hd-Tv owners need? A thrilling soundtrack plays wonderfully against the blood, taunts, sweat, death, and...cheers? From the audience, of course, who are sitting on the edge of their seats, staring with awe at the massacre going on in front of them, and finding it grossly amusing. Indeed, the gory parts are so over-accentuated (that was Tarantino's intent), that they (partly) cease to be disgusting. Instead, Tarantino focuses on making the movie as cool as it can be, directing a great cast who really knows what they're doing - entertaining!
I REALLY enjoyed the dialogue. Some of it was ridiculous, but fun nonetheless. Verbal sparring (go Hattori Hanzo and his bald friend!!) and character interactions not in the form of violence were very appropriate in context, and shed light on the actual character of the characters, which was definitely useful. Favorite character is The Bride of course, but I really found GoGo amusing. Too bad they cut out the part with her sister trying to avenge her death ("Yuki's Revenge"), that would've been crazy fun.
So, as you can see, I enjoyed this movie very much. I can say the same for the excellent soundtrack (in the movie itself, because some great songs were left out on the CD). If you're not grossed out easily, watch this incredible movie! And the second one too, because it reveals the depth of all the characters...those remaining alive, that is.

Rocky - movie DVD cover picture
Greatest Movie Ever Made in My Opinion

Even though it's understandable, given the amount of money that was involved, it's a shame they went on to make Rocky 2, 3, 4, 5 and possibly a 6th one. Those films have damaged the reputation of Rocky 1, which in my opinion is one of the greatest movies ever made, if not the greatest. And I almost never bought it because I remembered Rocky 4 and how ridiculous that story was (remember that awful speech after the final fight?). Then I saw Rocky 3 on TV one night and almost laughed at how bad the boxing scenes were.

Well, fortunately, some time later, I happened to catch a bit of Rocky 1 on cable and within moments was completely absorbed in the story. I had forgotten it completely; I hadn't seen it since I was a kid. Well, I wish I could forget it all over again (haven't you felt this way about your favorite film?). I went right out and bought the DVD and, since that day, I've must have watched this movie 100 times.

It is more a wonderful and inspiring story of the personal triumph of an American than it is a boxing movie. It is truly moving and the symbolism is all pervasive, starting with the very first image you see (that bright painting of Jesus Christ which hovers above the dark, dreary, gloomy boxing ring ). Then there are the two turtles, Cuff and Link - which symbolize Rocky and Adrienne who are two "slow" people living basically in a small fish bowl. (Rocky says at one point that he had a mountain in the fish bowl but the turtles kept falling on their backs trying to climb over it, so he had to remove it). Now to the big dark figure, Apollo Creed, in American-flag trunks and dressed as Uncle Sam. Could he be a more obvious symbol of our country - the dark, powerful side that oppresses the down trodden.

During the fight, Apollo beats on him, basically as America did to him in his 30 years (what about my prime, Mick? At least you had a prime!) In the 14th round he goes down. Adrien comes out of the back room, and he manages to get back up - an obvious symbol, it seems to me, of love lifting you from the darkest moments. That scene, together with the genius of the music, never fails to move me.

What frustrates me is when people laugh at me when I say Rocky is my favorite film. As I had, they just remember the ridiculous sequels. When I have a friend come over and they watch it, they, like me, are blown away by the power and emotion of the story.

Anyway, I recommend you forget everything you remember about the Rocky series and buy this one. You will be glad you did.

"You're worst than he is."

Some seem confused by the ending. To me this was a wonderful psychological thriller with a lot of depth and many layers (note the title - "Under Suspicion"). I don't know about the book, but the movie's last scene is NOT in the police station.
Really a wonderful film, with haunting soundtrack.

Amazing Accomplishment

How does one review a movie 12-hours long in just a few words. This production would be an amazing accomplisment for a movie studio. The fact that is was produced as a TV miniseries just boggles the mind.
There really aren't enough superlatives to describe it. About the best I can do is to say that it was totally engrossing from beginning to end. Well known and little known actors work side by side with spectacular results. The special effects are as good as any I've seen, and the absolute authenticity makes it a movie hard to stop watching. Tom Hanks has produced a space masterpiece that is made all the better by the fact that it is all true.
This is a movie that can be watched again and again. I'm sure I will.

A stunning film!

I rented this film not knowing anything about it... I sat there, watching it, mesmerized. I couldn't take my eyes from the screen. This is a truly remarkable movie. How could I have missed it when it was in the movie theatres? of the best films ever made, in every respect, acting, direction, screen play, music, etc. It upsets me that this masterpiece of a film was never recognized by Hollywood when others so undeserving are nominated and win awards. Don't miss this film if you appreciate quality, but be prepared to be emotionally shaken.D'Onofrio and Zellweger are awesome!! See this film!!!

O-Town - O2: An Exclusive V.I.P. Look - movie DVD cover picture

I think this is a great buy. Every O-Town should have this DVD in their collection. The only draw back it that there are only 6 songs.....Favorite Girl, From the Damage, I Showed Her, Over Easy, All or Nothing, and We Fit Together. Plus the video for These Are The Days. In addition to the songs there is an interview with the guys. The interview is cute. I don't want to give away too much because that would ruin the surprises in the movie. I would suggest buying this DVD. It is a great video.
