20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Top-notch fantasy movie

Neither of the abysmal recent television adaptations of Jules Verne's classic novel manage to capture the tragically noble essence of Captain Nemo as well as this sweeping and colorful 1954 Disney adaptation. Whereas the predictable contemporary direction is to create an obsessed sociopath consumed by his own rage, Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" sticks to Verne's original vision of an elegant but tortured genius who vows to rid the world of war by hunting the seas for those who traffic in human suffering. The spot-on James Mason brings Nemo to life with just the right touch of brilliance and sadness-we know he is doomed to failure, yet despite his misguided methods, there's a part of us that roots for him and his cause. Paul Lukas is wonderfully sympathetic as Professor Arronax, the soft-spoken, Victorian biologist who begins to identify with Nemo; Peter Lorre, as the professor's skulking assistant, Conseil, and Kirk Douglas, as Ned Land, the brash harpooner that ultimately causes Nemo's undoing, provide much of the comic relief. But even the solid cast must compete with Harper Goff's version of the Nautilus, quite possibly the most successful blend of technology and imagination to ever grace the silver screen. In a production that shines--from the beautiful cinematography to Richard Fleischer's sure-handed direction to special effects that are wonderfully tangible in this age of cold computer effects--there is a feast for the senses in every scene, and Paul Smith's evocative score--Douglas' musical number notwithstanding--will stay with you long after the credits roll. Disney deserves kudos for producing a DVD that is lovely to look at and packed with extras, though we probably could live without the myriad commercials at the beginning of the main disc.

Great Science Fiction Film

Think of the worst movie you've ever seen. Put this one right below it! Poorly directed, with too much emoting. Old spaghetti westerns are the only comparable style I can use. Would love a refund.......

Nobody does it better...

"Goldfinger" is an all-time classic. Here we see Sean Connery at his undoubted best. "Goldfinger" has a solid plot devised by gold-obsessed industrialist Auric Goldfinger, one of cinema's most enduring villains, the fantastic Aston Martin DB5, one of cinema's most enduring cars, and Oddjob, quite possibly the best henchman in the series. First Bond girl of the film (Jill Masterson, played by Shirley Eaton) falls victim to gold paint, Bond has to watch as an industrial laser *almost* severs his manhood, and the thrilling finale with the Bond vs. Oddjob battle, and Goldfinger ends his turn "playing his golden harp" at 35,000 feet - the most unusual demise of a Bond villain? Anyway, "Goldfinger" ranks as one of the best Bonds ever made and if you want a Bond film to add to your video collection, don't hesitate to pick this one.

Brialliant slapstick!

If you like "airplane" and "Naked Gun" type movies maybe even "police academy", it's slightly different as its an independent movie(picked up the Fox 'cos its so good). I was in convulsions of laughter at several points in the movie. It's definitely stupid but it's meant to be. More or less about Redneck state and local cops competing for territory...The cops are so bored they make up games of messing with people they pull over to entertain themselves .....hilarious....but humour is subjective.....some people will call this moronic....some would say the same about "Laurel and hardy". But it will be a cult film for sure!

Absolutely WONDERFUL! Deserves 10 stars! Perfect Date Movie

RUN, DO NOT WALK TO BUY/RENT THIS FANTASTICALLY WONDERFUL! DREAMILY ROMANTIC movie. it is a PERFECT "date movie" for gay AND straight couples! It's Danish and SUPERB in EVERY WAY...the script is "smart", the characters are ALL excellent, attractive, and believable. There's nary a lick of nudity or hot, steamy sex, yet the underlying passion of the lovers comes across loud & clear.
The amazing (for US audiences, anyway) is that it treats gay love and marriage as 100% "normal" and "valid". Coming out of Denmark, where I believe gay marriage has been legal for some time, the story line follows the EXACT same "formula" as any hetero love story that Hollywood might produce--including the "Hollywood ending."
"Shake It" is a romantic comedy, but the film delves deep into the gay AND straight characters' struggles and heartbreak...the soundtrack is excellent, as well, AND NO one is "sick" and/or dying of AIDS.
Be prepared to laugh, cry, and fall in love with these characters and this film!

5 STARS

If I could, I would give this DVD a ton of stars. It was everything I expected and more. It took quite a bit of time to watch the whole thing. I had missed a lot more of the beginning of their season than I even realized. But I liked it. This show just goes to show everyone out there that celebrities tackle the same things in everyday life that we all do. They put on their pants one leg at a time just like you and I and if they get a cut, they bleed too. Nothing fake or rehearsed about this show.
I won't give it away, but the 2nd disk has some goodies on it for all their fans that you probably never saw on t.v. before. I think it would be safe to say that it was added to this DVD specifically for you to see when you bought the DVD. It is worth it too. I got mine at Walmart and I hope they release the second season as well....soon! So get yours and reap the rewards!

An Excellent Series!!

Without a Trace focuses on the Missing Persons Unit of the FBI in New York City. This group of five headed by Jack Malone (Anthony Lapaglia) must find out who the missing person was to find out where they might be. They work backwards in time and forward in a race to find the missing person before 48 hours are up. Because after 48 hours chances of finding them alive are very slim.

This show is without a doubt one of the best on TV. I happened to stumble upon the reruns and was watching because I thought Anthony Lapaglia looked familiar. Of course I was thinking of Simon Moon from Frasier. By the time I could get my husband to confirm my suspicions I was hooked on this show. It is so well written and filmed that you can't watch and not become addicted.

The cast of this show is great. These five actors will make you forget your watching TV and make you believe your part of the team trying to solve the case. The writing is wonderful. In addition the way the show is filmed will leave you wanting more. I just can't say enough about this show. It has been awhile since I've been so excited about a TV show.

This DVD package is so great. The quality is excellent. And the extras are very entertaining. You go behind the scenes to learn how the show was developed and how the cast was picked. Then you can learn how the sets were made and discover that they actually have an ex-FBI man as an advisor to make the show look and feel real. This is just great. This shows the interest and pride the producers take in the show to go to the length of having an advisor help in making it real. I think this has a great deal to do with why the show is such a success and seems real.

This DVD is a must have for any fan of Without a Trace. It will provide some of the most entertaining hours on TV.
