Romantic drama lives on - A truly beautiful piece of art

There is nothing missing in this feature. It is a rich tableau of beauty, grace, chivalry, and yes, tantalizing evil. Actors Emmy Rossum of The Day After Tomorrow and Gerald Butler of Tomb Raider: the Cradle of Life, sing their roles like nightingales. I will never cease to be amazed at the versatility of talent and the quality that these actors bring to the table. The rest of the cast is of a similar calibre.

Rossum is the picture of innocence and Butler that of seduction. Together, they make your hear beat faster. Then the good guy comes along and Schumacher, the director, succeeds in making you torn between the two men. Who will win the angel's heart? Butler achieves the consummate: pain has never looked so good on a man! Bravo to all the cast and crew.

Cry every time

This has to be one of my very favorite movies and the soundtrack is THE BEST COUNTRY music I have ever heard, and I don't even listen to Country Music LOL in fact I liked the music (and the movie) so much I have purchased both for friends at least twice!!! On to my review.....
Gena Rowlands is Fantastic as the Momma, Harry Connick Jr. is simply charming as the "wanna be" Beau, the actor that played "Travis" was adorable and heartwarming, Bernice (the daughter of Sandra Bullock in the movie) was casted very well she was perfect as a stubborn, hurt and confused little girl trying to deal with the divorce of her Beloved Daddy and her (now seen as the enemy) Momma. Of course I can not leave out Sandra Bullock I was impressed with her ability to portray the hurt and the recovery of a women who has sunk to depression after her husband has found another, a mother that is struggling to keep it together for her child and a daughter that comes home to a town and a Mother that remembers her in a certain light.
Forrest Whitaker did a tremendous job In my Honest Opinion with selecting this cast, creating scenes that make you feel all of what the characters are going through. From the Gena Rowlands character all the way to the children. I can not recommend this movie enough for anyone. Caution.... It's not light, there are some funny moments and there are some very sad moments. It deals with death, infidelity and parents neglecting their children.
I watched this with my 12 year old, she loved it!!! The soundtrack maybe hard to find but do yourself a favor FIND IT!! it is definately worth it. I had to finally find mine on auction sites and it can come pretty pricy brand new/sealed but still if I ever heard something worth the ticket price the soundtrack for this movie is one of them.
Also if you like this type of movie (with pretty much the same subject matter) check out "Something to Talk About" which stars Gena Rowland as the Momma as well.

Focus On Focus

New lineup surrounding Thus Van Leer, the only remaining original member of Focus, but the new band does an exceptional job in playing this live music as you'd expect it to sound. Thus Van Leer yodels his band through Focus classics........I wish the video was longer though. Also, on the extras was a single song with original lineup including Jan Akkerman of 20+ years prior. I just love hearing their music and the sound quality and musicianship on this DVD makes this a must-have for any Focus fan.

I'm a Firm fan

This is another effective Firm workout that is both challenging, fun, yet doesn't aggravate my bad back. My only beef with this workout is that the instructor, Emily, keeps saying "whoo" throughout the workout. Ease up on the fake-sounding enthusiasm. But the workout itself is great. I definitely recommend the Fanny Lifter with all these new tapes. This tape doesn't rely on the Sculpting stick too much so you could get away without it and not lose much effect.

Absolutely Wonderful!!

Without giving too much away, I'd just like to say I always start sobbing when the mother of the boy with AIDS lays into the mother of the other boy, and I just keep crying until the end. Easily a favorite. I adore this movie.

A Trip to New York Worth Taking.!!!

Escape from New York was made for less then what most of today's movies make in a day, and still 20+ years later it still holds up pretty well. Kurt Russell is quoted as saying that Snake Plissken is one of his favorite roles to have played in his career, and I believe him. Kurt who had been typecast for years in light hearted Disney fair, or even cast as a jungle boy on a forgotten episode of Gilligan's Island (yes its true) was able to spread his wings as the classic anti-hero of Snake Plissken. Snake must go into the once great city of New York to save the President of the Untied States played with typical english grace by Donald Plesance. A great escapist movie filled with tight, fast paced action sequences, and pretty good special effects for a director with no money, and decades before CGI. John Carpenter also arranged, and performed the haunting music that is unmistakable with his movies. The special effects were also done by a relative unknown at the time who later went on to become the King Of The World. James Cameron. This special edition is PACKED with extras, and it was a long time in coming, but the wait was worth it. From its commentary by John Carpenter, Kurt Russell, and Debra Hill to photo galleries to the re-production of the Hurrican Press first issue of the new comic book The Snake Plissken Chronicles. A beautiful embossed box wraps it all up and keeps it looking nice on the shelf. Lets talk about the infamous Bank Robbery footage. Yes its a little grainy, but it has most likely been sitting in someone's attic or garage for the last 20 years. The scene which i had never seen in its entirety is just excellent and part of me wishes that John Carpenter had been able to digitally restore the footage, and edit it into the final cut as has been done with the Alien films. The twelve minute segment of Snake robbing the bank, and his subsequesnt Escape west to the coast with his partner Taylor is a wonderful addition to long time fans like myself. This has got to be one of my favorite movies of all time just for the character of Snake, and the classic tough guy dialogue that we all want to say but only he gets to deliver. Treat yourself, and buy, rent, or steal this movie. give it a try and I am sure that you won't be disappointed.

BASEketball - movie DVD cover picture

1998 was a good year for comedies, with two of my all-time favorites: The Coen brothers' The Big Lebowski, and the Trey Parker/Matt Stone/Zucker brothers BASEketball. I know these movies couldn't be much more different, but they're both funny for their own reasons.

BASEketball has earned its place over the last 6 years as one of the most quotable flicks in my life. All the sports movies cliches are intact, from the slow motion ending to the "we have to win or we lose the team" plot, to less obvious things like the fact that there are about 8 guys sitting on the Beers bench, but only three of them ever actually play. Plus, it's loaded with cameos from some famous athletes like Reggie Jackson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and a bunch of sportscasters. Yasmine Bleeth and Jenny McCarthy provide the eye candy, while Robert Vaughn fills the role of evil villain, and Ernest Borgnine is the aloof owner of the Beers.

BASEketball starts out as a sport that even under-achievers like Joe "Coop" Cooper (Parker), Doug Remer (Stone), and Squeak Scolari (Dian Bachar) can play. It soon blossoms into a nation-wide phenomenon. And hilarity ensues. Unfortunately, most of the funniest moments can't be recreated here on Amazon, but that's actually probably a good thing. If you like any of the work by the guys involved with this movie (Airplane!, Kentucky Fried Movie, Orgazmo, South Park, etc), you'll definitely enjoy BASEketball. And with Dodgeball doing well in the theater, you owe it to yourself to check out this one.

Perfection of Parallelism

It's been a long time since Neon Genesis Evangelion came out and revolutionized the mecha anime. Undoubtly, many tried to mimic the success and ultimately came short.Meet RahXephon. This series deliver the next step to the mecha anime that's been overdue. From well drawn characters to storyline, this one surpassed my expectation for good. This series never denies the influence of Evangelion. Rather, it embrasses the basic concept and further develops in their own vision. While some would simply say that there are too much similarity in between RahXephon and Evangelion, I never felt this as mere knockoff clone. Once you start watching it, you would see that this is more like watching alter ego. It gives the sense of alternate reality hence "Parallel Universe".While mecha (or "gear" if you prefer) is the dominant factor of the series, it never overwhelm the series, nor shy away from the show. Just like in Evangelion, mecha is bonded in personal level that cannot be broken.Music is what makes this series special. Exceptional combination of fast-paced Jazz and ambient sound of New Age creates uneasiness that makes you sit on the edge. Sound is dominant theme of this series and it shows. There aren't any ground-breaking acheivement in picture. It has well drawn characters, and back ground; nothing notable.Within the series, it shows the parallelism right from the beginning. What's more interesting, is that also represents the struggle to break out of blue print created by Evangelion. I believe that they finally found the way to stands out as it own.

Amazing Restoration!

My first viewing of "The Lost World" was a highly abridged super 8mm. film, my second a VHS tape, still highly abridged, and dark!
This new restoration is a amazingly impressive restoration; the images are clear and bright, the tinting, which changes appropriatly from scene to scene, adds an important visual texture.
The sound tracks are equally impressive. The classic score on the alternate channel provides the original experience, but in my opinion the newly composed score is equally impressive, and adds hugely to the impression the film makes.
All in all, for people who love this genre of film, Willis O'Brien in particular, or silent films in general, this restoration is more than worth the few dollars it cost!

Paul is Back

The "Run Devil Run" album was Paul's first attempt at recording since Linda passed away in 1998. He came through very well, and managed to rok us into the new millenium with this performance. Yes, he was in his mid-fifties when he recorded it, but don't be so quick to put him down. He rocked at this concert. The band is strong and tight, and Paul can still sing well. A few songs from this DVD are not on the "Run Devil Run" album, such as "Fabulous" and "Twenty Flight Rock." They are very good as well. I love this concert, and so will you if you love Paul.
