Riveting Story of True Life Event

Spielberg does a masterful job of the 60's, even the lead-in is from that era! The sets and language is authentic to the period, and the acting is right on and groovy to that time as well. What can one say about DeCapria and Hanks in this? They each are outstanding. Hanks is so versatile, and here is another character for him, the serious, intent no funny biz type. He pulls it off just remarkable!
Captivated, riveted to the end, as others have spoken, I was. The plot seems so unbelievable, but yet the length and end to which gov-FBI et al go to get this guy is magnet.
Overall, the strong urge of Frank to sense his need and ability to get his mom and dad back is almost universal characteristic of divorced children (see excellent book "Children of Divorce" by Debbie Barr). This culminates in escape from plane john to his mother's new home, where looking through window at her in new life, is final straw for Frank, Jr. Heart-breaking scene which explained his strong drive to do all this remarkable stuff, and then FBI's wise rehab and usage of this for soceity's good.
Excellent, one of best to have seen lately.

Lovvvvve Felicity!!!!!

I can't wait for this DVD to come out!! I am still in shock that they ever took it off the air. It was the only show I ever made sure to watch each week. The WB screwed up when they let go of this one. It's the only show that was truly a work of art. Plus it was so real to life and you could totally see where they were coming from. Plus the triangle of Noel, Ben and Felicity was great. Incredible actors and incredible script. Too bad they let it go, they really had something. Good thing we can get it on DVD atleast. I wish they would sale 3 and 4 at the same time instead of making us wait. Anyway AWESOME show and can't wait to buy it. If you've never seen it, buy it you wont regret it!!!

Fabulous Film!

A young boy named Bill is growing up in a small English town during the beginning of World War II where the the outlook toward the war is extremely optimistic and glorified. As Bill's family faces the departure of his father who is going to war, Bill has to handle the boys in the neighborhood who lack fatherly supervision. This creates an atmosphere of freedom and rowdiness where Bill faces new adventures with boys while the women are temporarily freed from their husbands. However, the reality of the war becomes very real when bombs begin to drop around the neighborhood. Hope and Glory is a semi-autobiographical story by John Boorman that captivates the audience, but the story feels a little choppy as if something where missing in the film. Nevertheless, it is a solid cinematic experience that will keep many thinking and laughing.

The Bride Wore Black - movie DVD cover picture
A tribute to Hitchcock, Louise Brooks and women's legs!

Master director Francois Truffaut and legendary actress Jeanne Moreau proves in this film a brunette can be more than a match and just as deadly as the most iciest of Hitchcock blondes, with the great Bernard Hermann delivering a turbulent, impending and breathtakingly haunting score which unfortunately is not out on soundtrack. Truffaut also pays tribute in hairstyle form to Louise Brooks, the 20's actress noted for her distinctive hairdo, which Moreau's character sports. This unforgettably haunting story full of symbolism plays out with the grand sweep and scope of almost Greek tragedy-mythic proportions, starring brunette Moreau as femme fatale extraordinaire Julie Kohler, an emotionally insulated and fascinating woman who descends upon her hapless victims like an exquisite bird of prey in larger-than-life vengeful goddess fashion (which we're not really meant to take all that seriously but is very effective)--she is at once meticulous, deliberate, detached and above all else, mesmerizing with her cold impassive beauty and emotionally/sexually untouchable aura. Her motley prey are a colorful assortment consisting of a wealthy playboy, a romantic loser, a smarmy politician, a mute gangster and a skirt-chasing artist. In highly dramatic and effective use of flashback we learn that Julie turns avenging angel when the love of her life is "assassinated" before her on the steps of a grand cathedral right after their wedding ceremony!--granted it's melodramatic and over-the-top but fits right in with the film's tragic gradeur. Throughout Moreau/Julie is dressed entirely in black and white but wears no other color--appropriate since her character sees the world now only in terms of black and white with no shades of gray, for even when learning these are not "bad" men (except perhaps the gangster) and what occurred was a purely hapless accident, there's no turning back in her unwavering resolve and vow to carry out her revenge.
The most fascinating scenes involve artist Fergus (the always excellent Charles Denner) whom Julie leaves cold at first but who soon becomes enthralled by her aloofness and suppressed sexuality, and in turn she shows signs of emotional and sexual awakening with his frank but pleasant personality and under his almost lovemaking/foreplay-like touch and caressess as he poses her--not surprising since obviously no man has gotten close to or touched her since her husband's death years ago, with the strong impression that she may even be a virgin! As the audience we hope Fergus can save Julie from her personal torment so she will find the happiness she so dearly deserves, but unfortunately the tragic past, her haunted memories and steely resolve win out over this new chance at love, life and happiness. Despite the killings she commits with such calculated and efficient dispatch, Julie is a sympathetic character because she's a principled murderess--she's not willing to hurt anyone but her targets or let anybody take the fall for her actions, as the scene dealing with the politician, his son and the son's schoolteacher compellingly displays her humanity. This is a fascinating character study of a troubled and complex female obviously inspired by Hitchcock's earlier "Marnie," but in this case Truffaut goes one step further with his version of an un-savable Marnie. A comment--throughout this film (as well as some of his others) Truffaut reveals what obviously is his leg fetish, as we the audience are subjected to numerous references as well as many voyeuristic and lingering shots of Moreau's legs!

Cowboy Bebop Complete Sessions Collection (Amazon.com Exclusive) - movie DVD cover picture
A Truly Perfect Collection

If Neon Genesis Evangelion ranks as the No. 1 anime series ever, Cowboy Bebop would be an easy No. 1.1, wrapped up beautifully in 26 masterful episodes.
Bebop takes place some time in the assumed future: all money is electronically transfered on plastic in the denomination of "woolongs." Space travel to different planets is the norm, VHS players and joystick-video games are antiques, and the internet is navigated by goggles. Bebop focuses on one group of people: bounty hunters or "cowboys" as they are called. There is even a regular television show that updates cowboys on the best and biggest bounties out there. The best, but unluckiest, of the bunch and Jet, an ex-cop with an artificial iron arm, and Spike, an extremely laid-back, confident ex-gangster, proficient in weapons and judo. Along the way, they pick up Faye, a gambling-addicted babe from the past, freed from her cryogenic sleep; Ed, a tomboyish-girl generally accepted as one of the planet's best hackers; and Ein, a super-intelligent Welsh Corgi (he barks and doesn't talk).
The animation is so spectacular and uninhibited that the feeling of watching anime versus live action is blurred. The camera can go shaking erratically during a crash or hand-to-hand fight sequence; it can go red-tinted and distorted when it switches to the view of a rampaging drug addict; it can flip 360 from the ground to the sky, back to the ground as someone gets thrown; or it can merely show birds flying off into the sky as the report of a gunshot fades. The anime is extremely detailed and the CG moments chosen very wisely. The colors are also well-chosen; blacks and blues for the more brutal flashbacks, or a golden hue for more choice memories. Nothing is accidental; you know they paid great attention when they have Spike's fake eye just a shade lighter of brown than his real eye.
The stories are very-well thought out and choreographed, with each bounty having a significant back story, not just a nameless bad guy or girl. It's fun to see the creative ways the cowboys corner and capture their bounties, or just the mad scramble to recover when their plans go awry. But it's not all just bounty hunting. Spike, the closest thing to a main character, his constantly haunted by a past he has long tried to leave behind, most frequently in the form of Julia, a long-lost love whose story isn't explored in-depth until close to the end; and Vicious, once Spike's right hand man in the gang, equally adept at fighting and coming out of impossible situations alive.
The masterpiece of the series comes in the fifth episode, the first confrontation between Spike and Vicious, that epitomizes all that is cool about Cowboy Bebop. Spike takes on Vicious' entire team of thugs, then battles him one-on-one in scenes very reminiscent of a John Woo flick (i.e. a quick battle, ending abruptly with Spike's gun pointed at Vicious' heart, just as Vicious' saber points digs menacingly into Spike). The action goes into slow motion as Spike falls through a stained-glass window, the haunting "Ballad Of Fallen Angels" (choir singing unaccompanied by music) playing, as the camera zooms into his eye and into a flashback.
There are also the lighter, comedic episodes where Ed and Ein watch as Spike, Jet and Faye go through mushroom-induced hallucinations; or when another cowboy, completely oblivious to the fact that he is a horrible bounty hunter, keeps screwing up Spike's captures.
The English dub is passable and the Japanese vocals are superb as usual, so you can't go wrong either way.
Where Neon Genesis may have been too serious, or Rurouni Kenshin wasn't serious enough, Bebop is just the right mix. It truly is like its live action counterparts: major characters, women and children die, people are superstitious, use drugs, have strange mannerisms, and stake their lives on their loyalties.
The series is also great in that...it ends. There are little or no loose ends; in fact the series ends on a moment low on effects, but high in drama and tragedy. Viewers are left to ponder only what they have seen from the past, not to speculate on the future. Those just getting on the Bebop bandwagon are real lucky--you didn't have to wait so many Bebop-less years until the movie came out.
This series is highly, highly recommended, for any viewer, regardless of your enthusiasm or lack thereof for anime. You get attached to characters, marvel at the action and fight scenes, with eye-candy animation to top it off. No anime collection is legitimate without it, and no film collection is complete with Bebop missing.
A very cool anime that is no doubt one of the masterpiece series' of modern anime. Ten stars if I could.

Greatest Pixar Animation ever made!!

Toy story 2 is one of those movies you'll love to watch a billion times because of the atmosphere, related charecters and a great storyline. Most of the places made like, Al's toy barn or Pizza Planet may be imaginary but a job well done, it's now a recognizable name, and last but not least, the new charecters are greatly added to the storyline, begining the phenomemon of Woody's round up. I loved this movie and i can't wait for the third one. hope the sequel can out beat the 2nd.

Ok, How about a review on the movie itself?

Let me just get this out of the way, this is a review on the MOVIE and not the book. (as wonderful as it was) Very rarely in cinematic history are true epics made. Thankfully, I was around to see this one. Peter Jackson has done a spectacular job in this adaptation and although some people will disagree, you have to give the man credit for just attempting to undertake this project, especially knowing before hand that he would immediately have thousands of Tolkien fans criticizing him for just attempting to translate this story into a screenplay. Well, here we are now a few years later and WOW! Yeah, I'd say he was successful. The theatrical releases were magnificent and had plenty to offer for casual fans. For the rest of us, the extended editions are a dream come true. You will have my eternal gratitude, Mr. Jackson, I can not thank you enough for making this incredible story into an incredible movie. 'Nuff said.
