Ritenour's Overtime DVD Is Exquisite Jazz

If you are a Ritenour fan I am sure you are already enjoying this absolute top-notch DVD. Pure, exquisite fusion-latin jazz recorded in audiophile sound of the highest calibre. (Thanks Don Murray.) If you are looking to upgrade your DVD sound system to audiophile grade (and unplug that booming subwoofer), this is the DVD to justify it. And if you are looking to move beyond the same old rock/pop/rap routine and see what the best of today's jazz is all about, this is your reference DVD. Lee Ritenour and friends delivers in Overtime the best live jazz performance ever.

It's about time for this one as well (& High and the Mighty)

A little corny (this was 1953), but Andy Devine changing the settings on his radios and using his authentic DC-2/3 cigarette holder, are worth the price of admission on this movie. The High and the Mighty, which is also being released Aug 2, was made a year later, by the same writer and director, and quite a few of the actors. The rest of the actors included pretty much every male actor working in Hollywood at that time. Even Fess Parker hung up his coonskin cap to be in the movie, and yes, that is Alfalfa. The story is basically about Wayne and his crew being lost after a forced landing in cold reaches of Labrador somewhere, and all their buddies band together in their aircraft to search for them. Ernest Gann fans should note that this movie and The High and the Mighty, were the only novels of his he helped make into movies. A later excellent autobiographical book of his, "Fate is the Hunter", was also made into a movie, but was Hollywoodized. Gann, it is said, did not like the result. Read the book.

Disturbing, but great

Deeply disturbing story of 2 boys who have no sense of right and wrong. One boy has so much anger in him that he just wants to kill and Charlie Sheen's charcter doesn't seem to mind. You won't be turning this movie off. I seen it for the first time about 11 years ago. It was one of the best movies I had ever seen. I bought it on dvd the first day it came out. Just as good the second time around.

Destined to be a Classic

I love this movie! This is the kind of movie that gets better with every viewing. It is a sweet romantic comedy based on the idea of whether or not we get a second chance @ a great love.
Tom Hanks becomes a single parent, after losing his wife to cancer. Meg Ryan finds herself in a relationship that is safe with no surprises & boring. Her fiancee is a nice guy, but she settles for someone that is reliable & constant & predictable, but longs to find the kind of love we all want: to be in love like in the movies. Rosie O'Donnell has a fine turn as Meg Ryan's boss & friend. Rob Reiner, Rita Wilson,& Victor Garber add some fun & humour in their supporting roles. The music in the film is wonderful & sets the mood as the story goes along. If you have seen An Affair to Remember, you will appreciate this film all the more. I find myself still quoting some of the great lines & each time I watch this movie, I feel like I am visitng an old friend. Hope you feel the same way.

Please Read: Nothing is Cut!

For those of you worrying that this is an edited version due to the difference in running time, STOP WORRYING.

This is indeed the original, uncut version of the film. The difference in total running time comes from the conversion from PAL to the U.S. NTSC format. The Oldboy DVD here is a PAL version because PAL runs at 25 frames/second while NTSC is at 29. Hence you lose 4 frames/second leaving you with the total time difference.

Also if that is not enough for you, I know people who have viewed this DVD and said nothing was cut so rest assure you are getting the complete film.

Now for the DVD: The movie is easily 5 stars. The DVD I would give 4 stars. In Korea, they have two editions, a regular 2 disc one and a mega 4 disc set. You can imagine the features we are missing out on. I have the Korean 2 disc set (not Region 1), and I'm getting this so I can play it on my region 1 DVD player. There could be more features and Tartan has been known to issue two different sets (one regular, the other deluxe). Regardless, if you're not a stickler about features get this version. It is uncut, has a few good features, and is in 5.1 DTS sound. The film is easily one of the best I've seen in the last five years. Get it.

Home For The Holidays

I Love This Movie! It is a "howling" good time right from the start. What a better way to portray what we all experience around the holidays-family obligation. It is a must see holiday movie and is right in there with the other holiday classics....White Christmas and It's a Wonderful Life.

Hilarious and Great Music

The majority of Dominique Swain's biggest fans don't like this movie because it doesn't display Dom's talent like "Lolita" did. I agree...somewhat, but I still love this movie. Dominique's character, Andrea, is completely different than Lo, and she is still nothing less than convincing. To me, this proves that she is an excellent actress. The cast in this movie is outstanding as well. Sean Patrick Flannery, Portia De Rossi, Selma Blair, and Tara Reid (great role for her) are the big names in this movie, and they all do very nice jobs. But above everything is the music. Jon Kahn, the singer for the *real* band the Color Green directed this movie, and the songs Todd Sparrow sings are Kahn's songs. The songs from this movie ("Girl", "Cybil's Song", "One Step Forward", etc.) can be found at the Color Green's website. Their newest CD is also produced by the Wallflowers' Rami Jaffee, and in the end credits of "Girl" Jakob Dylan is given special thanks. Just a little bit of trivia for you.

I commend Kevin Kostner for his intensive research prior to making this film. His attention to detail was incredible. This film was both, as historically acurate as I could ever imagine, and highly entertaining. Something Hollywood rarely achieves. Great cast!! Great costume design!! Awesome film!!!! Get it out on DVD soon!!!!

Finally I can buy one of my favorite shows.

season 2 of this amazing series was without a doubt one of the best on television. Ally Walker's portrayal of Sam Waters was uplifting as well as heartbreaking at times. . . making this one of the most heartfelt things I have ever seen. The serial killer jack-of-all-trades can still send shivers down my spine, and will to most people. many people i know can and have been addicted to this show from watching one episode...and so will you
