Ring of Light, Magic Might!

THE CARTOON:Excellent animation. Great characters. Balanced storytelling. Superp series---one of my favorites before the dawn of the Thundercats (and even after). Makes me want to renew my childhood ambition of producing my own animated serial. Would purchase the entire Wheeled Warrior series on DVD in a heartbeat.
THE DVD:Easy naviagtion. Great picture and sound. No digital snags. My only lament is that the opening sequence plays at the beginning of the DVD and not at the beginning of each episode, and that the closing sequence plays at the end of the third and bonus (fourth) episode.

Greatest portrayal of human desires ever filmed!

This film is not for the shallow-minded. There are no sex-scenes or senseless explosions. Rather, an artistic depiction of Earth's two classes of humans. Those who want to live in peace and enjoy an eternity in happiness, and those who prefer mindless, short-lived pleasures which incur death.
The acting by all is remarkable. In particular, Thomas Mitchell who's made noteworthy performances in 'It's a Wonderful Life' and 'The Fighting Sullivans.'
An intelligent, heart-warming film for the entire family.

The best of all three.

I adore this movie. Instead of playing out like an outline of the book (as the first two movies did), it feels like watching something different, something special.

The director has really captured the "magic" and it's subtle, not constantly thrown in your face. He has a lot of fun with the scene transitions and it's really a delight to watch.

Aside from one incredibly glaring plot hole that would have taken all of 2 minutes to clear up (Harry Potter fans, you know what I'm talking about), I really enjoyed this movie.

Remembering George

First, the quality of the audio and video are suburb, as is the editing and camera work. Listen to it at home with surround-sound and you're practically there. Enough about those technical accomplishments. This destined-to-be-a-classic concert brings together some of our era's most talented musicians in tribute to an often under-rated musician/singer/songwriter/humanitarian. George had to let John and Paul take the credit and spotlight when he was a Beatle, but on the night of this concert the focus was only on George and all that he did and all that he meant to this band of fellow musicians. Take one look at George's son Dhani and you'll be startled by the physical similarity! Kudos to George's widow Olivia and to best buddy Eric Clapton for putting together this outstanding tribute and top quality concert! The highlight for me is Billy Preston singing "My Sweet Lord" in the gospel style and with the chorus that great song so deserves.

Trigun Vol. 1 - The 60 Billion Dollar Man - movie DVD cover picture
Very Funny Start to a Great Series

How did Vash the Stampede, notorious gunman with a 60,000,000,000 double dollar bounty on his head become the most wanted man on the planet when it's proven he hates violence and never fires a shot in all four of these episodes? That's what he'd like to know.

In a genre of anime that is normally depicted as very violent (the sci-fi genre), Trigun stands out since the main character is a pacifist of the highest order. He refuses to even kill in self defense, prefering to simply put the bad guy out of commission. Vash is really a bit of a dork and likes nothing more than food and trying to sweet talk pretty girls, but by the very nature of who he is he gets caught in a life very different from the peace loving existance he wants.

The 60,000,000,000 Man- The first episode and first look at Vash. You get the impression from his first scene that he's a gunslinging tough guy, but that is a false impression as the episode later proves. Enter Milly and Meryl the insurance girls sent to prevent Vash the Stampede from causing any more damage if they can find him, which is harder than it sounds considering no one knows what he looks like. Vash crosses pathes with the girls, but Meryl just can't believe such a sweet natured goof ball would be the notorious Vash. We also get to see the first time Vash proves how good he really is as he is forced to save himself and the whole group without a gun.

Truth of Mistake- The girls again run across Vash as he is working as the bodyguard of a man in charge of the town's water supply. Once again Vash saves the day and makes it all look like an accident. There is also more confusion for Meryl as another woman they run across implies that there is something special about Vash and that men like him are "real men" rather than the goof ball persona Vash puts on.

Peace Maker- Vash befriends a former gun maker whose family was killed by one of his own guns. With a knife that flips out of his boot and a deep psychological understanding of pain, Vash sets about making things right. And getting drunk. Very very drunk.

Love and Peace- Waltzing into the middle of a hostage situation, Vash is forced to figure out how to save both the hostages and the criminals. Vash again proves that he can save a situation wihtout looking like he's doing anything but bumbling around.

For a sci-fi series that is portrayed as being very series, Trigun is actually quite comical with a main character who is totally endearing. It's also a good statement against violence in it's own way.

money , success , fame, glamour!

I liked this movie to the point where I couldnt stand it anymore but all in all it was a good view. Culkin is ok but he is overpowered by the performance of Seth Green who shines in this flick. not for everyones taste. MArilyn Manson, Chloe Sevingy and Wilmer Valderama also star. highlight is when Seth Green and Culkin are on that talk show and Green is a troll

Finding Nemo (Collector's Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

"Finding Nemo" what an adventure. The movie starts out with Marlin losing his beloved wife and all of his 'baby' eggs except one whom his wife wanted to call Nemo. As the movie continues we see young Nemo starting school and immediately the adventure begins as he wanders away and is captured by a Scuba diver and taken to a fish tank in Australia. Dad is heartbroken and vows to find his son. During his travels he meets up with Dory, a blue fish who has short term memory loss. What a hoot!My grandchildren sat glued to the TV through this entire movie. It was packed full of eye catching animation and adventure.Three words would best describe this movie: Captivating, imaginative and riveting! Well done!

Great video - narrated by Alec Baldwin - not Ringo

This is a wonderful video to start your child on if you're not familiar with Thomas the Train. Alec Baldwin is the story teller and does such a marvelous job. I'm glad they finally got an actor to do the story telling! Anyway, the lead story tells about how James and the other trains are worried that the new hot air balloon will take away their passengers when, in fact, they learn that they have make MORE passengers because of the balloon. There's no name calling in this one, just a very nicely done video that all can enjoy. My little guy just loves it! It's very well done and the colors are so vibrant. Highly recommend!

Masters from the Vaults - Emerson, Lake & Palmer - movie DVD cover picture
A great concert fron a young ELP on the verge of success!

Emerson Lake Palmer's first album was always my favorite and this video was shot around the time of that first release. With a young Emerson Lake & Palmer in top form performing three songs from that first album, this is now my favorite DVD from ELP.
It appears to be transferred from film (although the aspect ratio is still 4:3). The digitally re-mastered DD 5.1 sound is really very good. That is, as long as you are not comparing it to DVDs recorded with modern technology standards. But I'd rather see an outstanding performance of a young ELP with very good sound than a recent lackluster performance with great sound.
There are some "special effects" that are annoying (typical of concert footage from that era), but they are not nearly as annoying as the effects in the Pictures at an Exhibition DVD.
I've included the track list and liner notes from the DVD.
Track list:Barbarian (Emerson, Lake, Palmer, Bartok)Rondo / Bach ImprovisationsDrum SoloNut Rocker
Take A Pebble (Lake)Knife Edge (Emerson, Lake, Frasier, Janacek)
Liner Notes from the DVD:
The first true super group of the seventies Emerson, Lake, and Palmer were a world wide phenomenon and rose to prominence as one of the highest grossing acts in the history of rock.
The band was assembled by brining together three young musical geniuses in the form of keyboard wizard Keith Emerson from the Nice along with bassist/vocalist Greg Lake from King Crimson and the legendary Carl Palmer from Atomic Rooster on drums.
This was an outstanding collection of musicians and the band almost instantly shot to worldwide fame on the back of their spectacular first album.
It is that first album which is featured here with ELP jamming and improvising around the core structure of the extended pieces. This is a young Emerson Lake and Palmer captured at the very beginning of a legendary career.
As these pieces were filmed at the time when the band had only just recorded their ground breaking first album ELP had not yet built a large repertoire and therefore had to use all of their huge individual creative talents to create a full show. That's what makes this film so special.
Keith Emerson gives a dazzling display of extensive improvisation including all of the stage tricks, which would make ELP famous and triumphant. In this film the keyboard maestro demonstrates his full range of stunts including playing the organ upside down. Despite the showmanship the music remains rock steady as Emerson flies through a series of breathtaking improvisations based around JS Back's "Well Tempered Clavier".
You'll also find inventive percussions from Carl Palmer including a breathtaking solo spot which amply demonstrates why Palmer would go on to become the most famous rock drummer of all time.
The film is capped by a bravura performance at the mike and both on bass and acoustic guitars by the young Greg Lake.
Taken together these mind blowing individual performances add up to the magic of Emerson Lake and Palmer and make this an essential addition to the collection of any fan of the progressive rock era.
