Response to IntrepidVoyager's comment

A response to IntrepidVoyager's stupidity: What the hell is "nothing more than a gay movie" supposed to mean -- that it's somehow less than a real movie, and therefore not worth watching??? That's the same as saying that a gay man is less than a real man, isn't it? It's attitudes like yours that make the world SUCK!
And I happen to think the movie was great!

Don Juan DeMarco - movie DVD cover picture
Definatly The Don!

Let me begin by sayin how good it was to see Brando hadn`t lost his directions to the bakery.
This enjoable tale spans the life of a perhaps eccentric, nevertheless, attractive and highly sexually active Juan De Marco, who may or may not be the embodiment of the original caractor - Don Juan.
Its set in a mental institution, but has no walls of confinement, for, the story hurls us across Mexico and ships us into an Arabian paradise of beautifull women and adventures in sex.
Depp reels you in and makes you become him. The romantic settings and wonderfull music inspire you to be him. The whole package is well crafted. Music from Kamen & Adams, and an array of familiar faces and names make this the perfect movie for a happy couple.
This may just be the movie that lured me out of the monogamous shell I was hiding in. The movie that inspired a poet to become he who is now known as Don Andreas.
This left me wanting to believe, regardless of how silly some of the story sometimes became. I could almost (with exception to his, lets say, overacting sexual history), relate to him.
If you have any trouble talking to the opposite sex, if you have ever been stuck for a pick-up line, if you are not the most confident of Casanovas... watch this movie. However, if you watch this movie and still have trouble from a romantic point of view, imediately visit a doctor. He`ll most likely discover that you have no sexual organs.
Watch Don Juan, do as he does, fail/succeed, you`ve done what you should have done and watched a great movie, so it cant be all bad.

Is There a Comparable from the Winds yet?

I hesitated because I already have one DVD played by Galway and, it's rather expensive.
Anyway, I bought it. But I couldn't finish it in one go, not just because it's length, but becasue of it's primitive production. The footage was as bad as one could imagine and so was the photography. Don't expect to see Rampal's embrochure, the picture quality is so poor that often you have to use your own imagination to figure out what exactly it was. Most of the time, we have too wide an angle with only a few close-ups. And when we do, it's just a profile and then shot from such an angle that we only have 3/4 of the profile with less than 1/2 of his mouth! There are some nice shots from his Bach though. Anyway, the support Rampal got from the last orchestra also leaves much to be desired even though the first one is much better.
BUT, if you want to have a glimpse of this Maestro, you dont have much choice. There aren't much devilish technique ( in the narrow sense) here, not even in his cadenzas. Some beautiful tonguing, yes and of course an immense sense of musicality. He may not be as expressive as Schwzarkopff, one of the century's top sopranos, and it's a tiny bit less intriquing than Szeryng, one of the most lyrical violinists of the century, all because of the limitations of the instrument. But he is so very close to the two of them. The colour of his tone is so warm that it has a life of it's own and that in different piece, you get almost different tone as though it's a different kind of instrument. And the secret of this Maestro, other than his musicality, lies in the absolute control of his breath.
So the result, the second time I went back to it, I finished it in one breath. A whole world of difference from any other flutist in film including Galway. Wood wind, or any wind players or even vocalists or string players won't want to miss this great performances.
The sound is however barely acceptable. 5 stars, despite poor picture qualities.

Style over violence always works

Excellent cast, excellent music, solid acting, underscore a well paced film about a witch infatuated with a beautiful and independent fashion photographer. Very unique, with emphasis on style over bloodshed.

A good DVD for one of the best films ever

Make no mistake, To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the best films of all time. It is beautiful, emotional, and touching from beginning to end. The acting is superb (both Peck and the children) and the black-and-white cinematography is gorgeous. Add to that the screenplay adapted from Lee's great novel, Bernstein's evocative score, and thoughtful directing, and it is easy to see why this is considered a timeless classic. There are those who read the book and watch the film, expecting to see a movie that is an accurate incarnation of the book, and are dissapointed. Personally, I cannot understand this. For the film portrays the book almost perfectly--both the events and the theme and heart of the story. It is ridiculous to debate which work is better--they are both masterpieces of their own mediums. Thus, it is important to look at the film without the book in mind, and if you can do this, you will undoubtedly be impressed by the beautiful film. The DVD is, for the most part, quite good. I would support an effort at Universal to make a limited edition 2-DVD set to honor this wonderful film, but as it now stands, I am perfectly happy. The extras are pretty good, and the film is preserved in very good shape. Do yourself a favor and buy this film.

a vision of love that is wonderful

i have watched this movie over and over again just to capture and enjoy the rhythm and cadence of the verbiage tossed back and's musical ......lycrical...comical......and thoughtful.....these women are catty, political....fight against their feelings and ultimately can't help but show what they're feeling by trying to hold back or in trying to manipultate others.....i see my mom in these gals...their love for family....wanting to be the showgirl of the times for their love...and yearning for what it means to just be while being the ultimate "woman"........cukor is a genious......and the woman in this film deserve a standing ovation......roses.....and many hugs from anyone who can appreciate their strength and honesty in the feelings they offered us in this film.........

Bela's fall

Famed director Tim Burton directed Johnny Depp in their second collaration, the biographical Oscar winning triumph; "ED WOOD"
the story of a director's unforgettable passion for movies and his dreadful vision on directing movies and how his awful films have still been a inspiration. Martin Landau brilliantly and terrifyingly portrays the legendary Bela Lugosi, which got him the oscar for best supporting actor. Sarah Jessica Parker as Eddie's girlfriend Dolores Fuller. One of the most extrodonary biographical films among "Chaplin", "the Aviator" and "Cinderella Man" Johnny Depp's second best film after "Pirates of the Caribbean" Everyone is very good. Johnny Depp fans see "ED WOOD" if you haven't. A Film of a young man whose has stood the test of time as the worst director of all time, but hes honored for his dreadful filmography with Tim Burton's triumph.

The simpsons got upgraded.

Futurama is a lot of things, but to resume, its great. A must see. Only the episodes are worth the dvds, the extras are well.. extras. If you were suddenly freezed for a thousand years and woke up suddenly and see that you are in the future, how would things go? Well, Futurama starts like that, and shows a futurure that is incredibly funny and wierd, and has a lot of things in common with the past. And great funny characters that are developed during the series. Too bad the series are cancelled but at least its great from start to "finish".

Good movie

This was a good movie, maybe not as good as the others , but it could not have had all the great characters of the other films which we all have grown to love and still made sense. Ok so Jar jar was overboard and I think they should have had an older Anakin in it (it hard to believe all that he did in this movie at his age). There were also some inconsistancies with the other Star Wars movies ( I thought Obi Wan was trained by Yoda!). But all in all it was a great movie with awesome special effects.
