Re-birth of a Nation

"All the President's Men" is the well-made movie about the political fiasco known as "Watergate". Watergate remains the biggest political mess in American history and it led to the resignation of president Richard "I am not a crook" Nixon.
The movie has big stars, including Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford as the two Washington Post reporters who begin to unearth the story about the break-in at the Watergate hotel and subsequently piece together the details that implicate a long list of top politicians.
The intriguing story is helped by supporting actors Jason Robards, Jack Warden, Martin Balsam, and Hal Holbrook who plays "Deep Throat", the still-unidentified informant who guided Woodward and Bernstein along the trail of information.
The DVD includes text-based cast/crew info, casting notes, location info, a bit about "Deep Thoat", a chronology of the Watergate activity, and a list of awards which include 4 oscars.
If you don't know much about the circumstances surrounding Watergate, this is a good place to start.

This is my favorite DVD

I'm usually ashamed by some of the DVD's I buy, but this one is okay because it contains some very helpful exercise routines. This is probably best suited for beginners, but the routines they demonstrate are good at concentrating on all parts of the body. I make sure that I exercise to this movie at least once a day. ... They're pretty, physically fit, and I bet they're really nice too. If it takes DVD's like this to promote a healthy lifestyle, so be it.

Hercules and Xena together again!

Season four of Hercules is a great season! There is so much to love about it! My favorite aspect of this season involves the crossover episodes with Callisto and Hope, and Xena and Gabrielle. There are so many great episodes to enjoy over and over again! This is a must have for all television fans!

A magnificient DVD with no extras

Everybody knows already the story of The Bounty and how it ends. The battle of wills between Captain Bligh (excellent Anthony Hopkins) and Fletcher Christian (equally excellent Mel Gibson). What prompted me to write a review is another review, one from Mr. Stefan Schott from Germany (December 29, 2000), who gave the DVD one star! He said that the dialogues were so distorted that it is impossible to watch the movie and that image quality is below average.
First, maybe the quality of the copy in Europe (Region 2) is different from the one that sells for Region 1.
I bought the DVD yesterday and watched it last night. This is a prime example of low price/high quality DVD. The widescreen is a perfect media to set off the visual quality of that movie. The sunsets are marvelous, the close-ups are stunning and the scenes filmed at the water's edge leave us breathless. As for the audio quality, I did not find any flaws. The sound is perfectly clear and the dialogues are all audible.
Obviously, Mr. Schott had a much different experience than I did with the DVD version of "The Bounty". I just wanted to bring that to the attention of potential American buyers so that they will not be put off by Mr. Schott's review.
The only let down of this DVD is that there are no extras. At that price though, the fact that the movie itself on DVD is exceptional is worth the price.

Poirot - Death on the Nile - movie DVD cover picture
Poirot as Christie would have him

Agatha Christie didn't develop Poirot to be a hollywood figure with the sets and dazzle drowning out the central figure. Any other version of "Death on the Nile" fades by comparison. Poirot is of course the central figure of her books, woven into a beautiful tapestry of British background and numerous prime suspects. I saw the version by Ustinov and although I love him as an actor, he wasn't good as Poirot. David Suchet has a lock on Poirot and no one will ever be as good. Since I LOVE mysteries and actually read the books, I saw Poirot come alive in this movie. In all others the actors are too busy chewing up the scenery and trying to out do each other.

beautifully reminiscent of my teen years

Great movie, well worth adding to your DVD library. A wonderful/horrible flashback to my teen years as a punk in the late 80's. Excellent filmaking, great acting, realistic portrayal of the mentalities and beliefs of my friends and I back in the bad old days of yore.

Wolf - movie DVD cover picture
DVD does not have close caption english subtitels !

"Wolf" is a very good movie until near the end. The story is more complex, and really has more to do with relationships, office politics, and the nature of man, than the slow transformation of Jack into a four-legged beast.
Michelle Pfiefer is excellent as a jaded woman who has learned not to trust men. Her relationship with Jack (which I would normally find hard to believe) works very well.
The movie overall doesn't dumb itself down with the whole, "Gee, maybe you are turning into a werewolf" question. They tackle that issue with surpizing humor and realism.
The only serious flaws in the movie are these: 1) The inevitable werewolf duel at the end brings the movie down from its above-doing-cheesy-werewolf schtick, to something you'd expect from Lon Chaney Jr. 2) The werewolves don't look as real as you would hope for with the lastest special effects. You can practically sense the electronic parts going through their range of motion in one howling wolf scene.
Still, those flaws are about 10 minutes of this otherwise excellent film. If you can forgive it those two items, it's a keeper.
If you're a serious Michelle Pfeifer fan, this movie should be in your collection, right next to "Ladyhawke" and "Batman Returns". END

Ocean's Twelve (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Good film

Other than a few awkward moments this was a good film. not as good as Ocean's 11 but not bad at all. Unlike the first, Ocean's 12 describe how Ocean's group handles being the target rather than being the targeter. There are plenty of funny moments and the ending to me suggested there might be an Ocenan's 13???. In my opinion I like sequels that do not attempt to copy the original's theme and atmosphere and thus keeps the series fresh rather than repeating it and making both seem dull.
In other words I like to see creativity or something I have not seen before or do not expect in the movies I see.

Wow!

Exciting movie. Extremely funny, somewhat risque, a little bit violent, quite unusual, and oddly heart-warming. What more could you want?
